Ep. 313: Sami Zayn - Friend Forever

Do a little dance! Get ready for a massive wrestling weekend with a brand new Tights and Fights!

The stage is set for Clash at the Castle. RAW and Smackdown have been a lot of fun the last few weeks. But in one of the most controversial moves of the show Triple H era, Aliyah and Raquel Rodriguez are the new women’s tag team champions. We’ll explain why the surprise move isn’t that concerning yet.

Because they can’t go a week without drama, Tony Khan shared his reasoning for why Thunder Rosa’s injury didn’t get the same treatment as CM Punk. Some of the reasoning was understandable and some of it was very disappointing to hear.

But let’s not let it get in the way of a good time for the next few days!

    The Main Event: Sami Zayn

Sami has been with the WWE for almost 10 years now. He's won titles, had great matches and he's now involved with the most high profile stable in the company.

Ep. 312: Bayley the Role Model

Ep. 312: Bayley the Role Model

DING DONG! Backstage drama and title controversy abound! Time to talk about it on a brand new episode of Tights and Fights.

As more and more reports come out about AEW’s messy life behind the scenes of fights and talent meetings, the most public discussion is Jon Moxley squashing CM Punk in the “biggest match in AEW’s history.” What’s a work? What’s real? Who can even say?

But there’s so much to love this week too! Dexter Lumis and Indi Hartwell’s love story continues and Johnny Gargano has at last debuted in WWE.

Between all that let’s give a big hearty “A-thank yewwwwwwww” for all the things to enjoy in wrestling!

    The Main Event: Bayley

It took a little over a year, but Bayley has finally returned to WWE bringing new friends for the next step of her career.

    The Three Count

Danielle put over Eddie Kingston being her best friend.

Julian put over his favorite wrestling x Chargers x video games x backyard games crossover.

    Ep. 311: WrestleMania preview

    Ep. 311: WrestleMania preview

So much great wrestling, so little time! We’re getting tons of shows to look forward to almost every day of the week. Something for everyone, you could even say!

And while there were tons of great matches no matter your preference, the show that we have the most questions about is Dynamite. With CM Punk back, speculation abounds about his behavior behind the scenes. How much of that is part of a planned story? And how much is Punk being his usual cranky self?

But we’ll have more to say about all of the great promos and title defenses we’ve seen so far. What a great time to be a fan!

The Main Event: WrestleMania at SoFi

In case you hadn't heard, WrestleMania is coming to SoFi stadium in Los Angeles this April. WWE had a fun preview event at the show that was free for fans and media to attend– and that included us! We got see the depths of SoFi and speak with Nikki ASH, Montez Ford, Angelo Dawkins and Dominik Mysterio!

    The Three Count

Danielle put over Becky Lynch C-walking.

Lindsey put over Seth Rollins’ and the Rock’s memories and Liv Morgan’s book recommendations.

Julian put over Triple H making dreams come true.

Hosted by Hal Lublin, Danielle Radford and Lindsey Kelk.

Ep. 310: These are YOUR Main Events

Ep. 310: These are YOUR Main Events

Blood is disgusting! We watched half of AEW through clenched eyes! But there’s also plenty of things we DID love on a brand new episode of Tights and Fights!

CM Punk, Dexter Lumis and Karrion Kross all returned to wrestling. And sure we don’t really know how the latter two are going to do, but the possibility sure is exciting.

Between that and Kevin Owens returning to being the prize fighter, the US title getting a lot of love and so much more, the good times continue to roll!

The Main Event: Giving you the book!

As part of the special Max Fun Drive stretch goals, we've given the book to our listeners to tell us all the corners of the wrestling world deserve some extra attention. These are your Main Events!

    The Three Count

Hal put over Ciampa's big US title push.

This is it. The big one. The story we never thought we’d cover so soon: Vince McMahon is officially OUT from WWE and Stephanie McMahon and Triple H are in!

Now that Hunter has full control of the book, we’ll talk about our hopes for his creative regime and why we’re more optimistic about WWE than we have been in years.

Plus: The IWGP women’s title is real and it’s coming soon!

    The Main Event: Stephanie McMahon

We have seen Stephanie McMahon graduate from the damsel in distress to Triple H's fake wife to Triple H's real wife to the chief brand officer all the way to the top business person of WWE.

    The Three Count

Hal put over Baby Gargano tuning up the band and Paul Heyman’s career advice.

VINCE MCMAHON HAS RETIRED FROM ALL OF HIS ACTIVE WWE RESPONSIBILITIES. And even though the announcement happened after we recorded, Hal and producer Julian still have time to discuss their early reactions.

But other than that, the wrestling world feels like it’s in a bit of a slump at the moment. But while things don’t feel as exciting as they should, let’s find some positives before SummerSlam starts and wrestlers continue fighting sharks or whatever

The Main Event: Larry Steve (and Alexa Bliss)

Alexa Bliss has been back for a few months now. And instead of competing for the world championships, she's working to find her footing and messing around with the 24/7 title in the meantime.

But before we get to her, let's talk about her pet pig who touched the hearts of millions before he left us too soon: Larry Steve.

    The Three Count

Hal put over Werewolf World Wrestling.

It’s time to speculate about the end of TV ratings on a brand new Tights and Fights!

Yup, it looks like the WWE is officially going back to TV-14 after decades of PG television. What does that mean for the show itself? Probably none of the things that we suggest.

Sasha Banks is in the news again with her first public appearance at C2E2 since leaving WWE. Why does it matter how much money she’s charging to work with the convention? That’s the best part- it doesn’t!

Plus we’ll talk about why we miss Rhea Ripley, why we can’t wait for Ronda to head out and where Liv Morgan should go next

    The Main Event: Paul Heyman

Paul Heyman has been the peak of promos as an advocate, manager and special council for WWE's biggest stars. Now that he's once again caught between his two biggest collaborators in the latest Lesnar/Reigns match, we're going to take a look at Heyman's career and legacy in wrestling so far.

    The Three Count

    Hal put over Shinsuke Corbin.

Danielle put over Keith Lee’s “why”.

Money in the Bank brought with it some great matches and moments that we can’t wait to discuss on a brand new episode of Tights and Fights!

But that’s almost secondary to all the real-life Vince McMahon news that’s been delivered this week. Why is all this coming out now? We’ll speculate and explain why it’s similar to the ousting of a certain Prime Minister.

And not only that, but we’ve gotta talk about Christian’s promo on Matt Hardy, Wardlow’s big title win and so much.

    The Main Event: Paige

Paige has had one of the most revolutionary and tumultuous WWE careers in recent memory. Now she's officially run through her last contract and is parting ways with the company. So we're going to look back on everything she accomplished.

    The Three Count

Hal put over Paul Heyman’s lecture.

Danielle put over an amazing thread about WWE.

Can you believe we’re a full six months into the year? We’re finally ready to discuss the halfway point on a brand new episode of Tights and Fights!

One of the biggest news items from WWE this week is that they signed Logan Paul to a contract to wrestle for the company. Don’t count any of us as Paul supporters, but we’ll explain why he has the carney energy to do good things in WWE.

AEW just had their “Forbidden Door” PPV. And what else could get us more excited than the debut of Claudio Castignoli (formerly known as WWE’s Cesaro).

Between his showcase and AEW wrestlers appearing on RAW to thank John Cena, it’s been a wild and crazy

The Main Event: 2022 so far

We're already halfway through 2022 and have already experienced plenty of highs and lows in the world of wrestling. This week, we're talking all about what's stood out to us in the year so far, from stars, to moments behind the scenes or anything else.

    The Three Count

Hal put over John Cena granting wishes.

Danielle put over the wrestling world showering Claudio with love.

Julian put over Montez Ford’s future.

It’s the most cursed Summer of wrestling, but let’s try to brave it together on a brand new episode of Tights and Fights!

Injuries continue to plague both AEW and WWE. Daniel Bryan is out for the foreseeable future and has promised a surprise competitor to replace him in his upcoming matches at “Forbidden Door” and “Blood & Guts.”

Rhea Ripley is not medically cleared to compete at “Money in the Bank.” So Bianca Belair will face Carmella instead.

But there’s thankfully still some things to be happy about and a bold explanation about which pop culture franchises best explain the purpose of AEW.

    The Main Event: Vince McMahon

Vincent Kennedy McMahon has been the chief creative and business mind behind WWE for decades. Every single decision and expansion has been made with him at the center of it. With the latest scandal and investigation, he faces what may be the most significant disruption to his power yet.

Full disclosure: the main event segment has been rumored to be cursed the last few weeks, with anyone who we discuss getting disappeared from TV. So we figured why not aim high?

    The Three Count

Hal put over Kevin Owens understanding movies.

    Danielle put overJohnny Hardy.

What a massive week of news. And we’ll do our best to sift through it all on a brand new episode of Tights and Fights!

Vince McMahon has stepped away from WWE, at least on a temporary basis. This comes after a Wall Street Journal report that he paid off a former employee after what the story called “an affair.” As the WWE board looks into whether he used WWE money to cover for his transgressions, Stephanie McMahon has been announced as the interim chairwoman and CEO.

There’s a lot to sift through and the only way we know how is with jokes speculation!

Plus, the hits just keep coming: Jeff Hardy was arrested for Driving Under the Influence. He’s now been suspended from AEW as he seeks rehabilitation. So we make an impassioned plea for him to get the help he needs.

    The Main Event: Rhea Ripley

Rhea Ripley has a new look and a new faction on her side with The Judgment Day. And the group's first order of business is to support Rhea in her match against Bianca Belair so that she can earn her second RAW women's title.

    The Three Count

Hal put over Big E’s big accomplishment.

Danielle put over MJF’s celebrity encounter.

    Ep. 303: Injury Season

    Ep. 303: Injury Season

There’s so much that’s happened across every wrestling show. We’re happy to guide you along on a brand new episode of Tights and Fights!

Hell in a Cell was a generally well received PPV, and not just for the banger of a main event. Asuka, Bianca Belair and Becky Lynch turned in a great triple threat for the RAW women’s title and all three women have a lot of options in the aftermath.

Somehow Kevin Owens has kept the game with Ezekiel going for months now. How much longer until it’s a wrap?

And all signs point to Jon Moxley standing tall as the AEW Champion for the first time in several years. But will he be able to bring a title prominence that’s in danger of getting lost in a crowded field of belts on AEW?

    The Main Event: Injuries

Injuries are a constant part of wrestling. But this past week, we've had a bunch of wrestlers get hurt and disrupt the best laid plans of marks and bookers

    The Three Count

Hal put over Danhausen's fun time band.

Julian put over Ms. Marvel/Mustafa fan art.

Maxwell Jacob Friedman and his contract drama has taken the world by storm. Is it a work? Is it a shoot? Who cares! Let’s just bask in it on a brand new episode of Tights and Fights.

But first: Hal’s finally back! And that means we can catch him up on all the wrestling he’s missed.

AEW had their Double or Nothing PPV where CM Punk at last won the AEW World Championship. What do we hope for as he cements himself as the face of the company and prepares to fight Hiroshi Tanahashi?

Plus, we’ll look ahead to Hell in a Cell and lament that the women don’t get a cell this year. Boooooo!

    The Main Event: MJF

Maxwell Jacob Friedman has been one of the most consistent acts on AEW since the brand premiered. Now there's more drama around him and his future in the company than ever before.

    The Three Count

Hal put over Sami Zan, honorary UCE.

We’re just a few days away from AEW’s Double or Nothing show, but there are tons of stories developing outside the fictional world of wrestling television too.

Kota Abushi’s troubles with New Japan have only just begun. And the latest press conference did not reflect favorably on the federation.

Roman Reigns is still expected to scale back his presence in WWE for a little while; so what does that mean now that the Bloodline has all the gold?

But all that aside… how about MJF’s Burberry ref shirt?

    The Main Event

He's the AEW world champion that the company spent the most time building up and now Hangman Adam Page has a date with CM Punk in the biggest match of his career.

    The Three Count

We’ve got so much wrestling news to catch up on this week on Tights and Fights!

WWE had another PPV this weekend. While it was a tepid build, there’s no denying that the match quality exceeded expectations.

AEW is building to a major show of their own as well. With the Owen Hart Memorial Tournaments in full swing and CM Punk set to challenge for the AEW World Championship, what is going right on Wednesday Nights?

All of this and we think it’s time for a nice food analogy to explain what you get form the various wrestling shows on TV.

    The Main Event

Charlotte Flair and Roman Reigns have run roughshod over Smackdown for a while. Now they're both set to take a sabbatical with more wrestlers stepping up to carry the burden.

    The Three Count

Lindsey put over CM Punk yelling at people about women’s rights.

    Ep. 296: Charlotte Flair

Whether you’re a tall blonde queen or a short and pissy brunette, this episode of Tights and Fights is for you!

AEW and New Japan Pro Wrestling have at last confirmed their upcoming joint show “Forbidden Door.” There’s still a lot of questions about what the card will look like, but we know that there won’t be any women’s crossover matches. How excited are we despite that?

Plus, there were some fun surprises across all the shows: Cody Rhodes is really over as a face in WWE! Naomi and Sasha Banks have gotten a lot of chances to show off the women’s tag titles! And Britt Baker got the major ovation that we’ve come to expect from her in Brittsburgh.

    The Main Event

It’s time for another edition of our segment "My Special Wrestler" where we invite you to share your personal stories about why a wrestler means so much to you. This time we've got an email from listener Maggie Rose who tells us about why she loves Charlotte Flair.

If you want to share a story about your special wrestler email it to us at julian@maximumfun.org

It looks like the bloodline is coming after all the tag team titles in the next phase of their conquest. Does this mean the end of the brand split as we know it? And if so, would this be a good thing or a bad thing for WWE programming?

Plus: Sonya Deville snuck her way into a title match with Bianca Belair. We’ll talk about how far Sonya has come since the her debut several years ago.

While AEW had a massive show on Wednesday night, the thing that drew the ire of most fans was the first appearance of Satnam Singh. What went wrong with his first showcase and was the outrage justified?

    The Main Event

Even as we get closer to the biggest show of the year, matches continue to be added. What looks like it could make for a fun encounter? And most importantly: What food preparations have been made within our households?

Ep. 292: Baddest of the bad

Ep. 292: Baddest of the bad

The beacon of WrestleMania is within sight on a brand new Tights and Fights!

Where do we even begin with the biggest show of the year? Against all odds it looks like a very solid two nights of wrestling that have been set up to feel as massive as they should.

Bianca Belair and Becky Lynch have added a lot of grit to the final leg of their story and Seth Rollins continues to carry a feud with the specter of Cody Rhodes right up to the final RAW of the build.

How hopefully are we that WWE will deliver? Well… we’ll see.

Plus, NXT TakeOver Stand & Deliver will be airing the morning of the first day of WrestleMania. Things are much more optimistic in the colorful world of 2.0, but who’s due to finally be called up to the main roster?

All of that… plus discussing some of the grossest AEW stories of the week and reminding the world that “Blackpool” is one word.

    The Main Event:

WWE has a new series out called WWE Evil where they take a look at some of the biggest heels from their history. So we figured why not talk about some of our favorite baddest of the bad guys.
