A Caregiver Used Paid Leave and Helps Take Care of Her Sister Out of State.

A Caregiver Used Paid Leave and Helps Take Care of Her Sister Out of State.

November is National Family Caregivers Month.  58% of caregivers are women. Almost one-third of caregivers provide care at least 20 hours a week.  About 80 percent of caregivers care for adults aged 50 or older, and one in 6 non-caregivers expects to become a caregiver within two years.

Caregiver leave under CT Paid Leave allows you to take time away from work to care for a loved one who is undergoing a serious health or family issue. Caregivers can be blood related but don’t have to be, they can also be related by affinity. That means that the person is like a family member, and it could be a best friend or a cousin or a neighbor or someone you live with but aren’t married to. You are allowed to take up to 12 weeks of income replacement in a calendar year.

My guest is caregiver Mya Baldwin. Mya cared for her sister who was diagnosed with a recurrence of breast cancer while she was pregnant with twin boys and living in New Jersey. Mya talks about how paid leave gave her 12 weeks of income replacement to help her sister with chemo treatments, and to help after the birth of her twin boys. Mya says that caregiver leave allowed her the flexibility to take time away from work so she could focus on the health and well-being of her sister.

Twins: So Alike Yet So Different | Twin Mom Anita Chaudhari

Twins: So Alike Yet So Different | Twin Mom Anita Chaudhari

In today's episode, Nat chats with Anita Chaudhari, mom of 4-year-old twin boys, about her pregnancy and planned C-section delivery at 38 weeks, how her twins are alike and how they differ, why she naps her twins in separate rooms, what she's planning for her twins in Kindergarten, and her top advice for new parents of twins.

Anita Chaudhari is a stay-at-home mom to four-year-old twin boys, Ashton and Noah.  After struggling with fertility for many years, Anita and her husband Manny found out they were pregnant with twins and it was the greatest blessing of their life! Anita left her corporate job in Human Resources to be at home with her boys and, along the way, she developed a passion for respectful parenting and non-toxic living.  She is intentional about how she chooses to live her life and is looking to pass this approach down to her boys.  She continues to practice her HR skills on a part-time basis by assisting her husband at his company and is a Brand Partner with Young Living where she helps other families and moms transition to a low-toxic lifestyle.

Find Anita on Instagram, Facebook, and her website

Anita's Top 3 Pieces of Advice for Twin Parents:

    1. Have a game plan for how you will be taking care of your new babies once they arrive! Make sure you have help lined up (family, night nurse, au pair, etc.) and talk it over with your spouse so that you are both on the same page.

    2. Get out and do things with your twins and don't let the fear stop you from living life! Having twins is harder than having a singleton but don't let that stop you from getting out and about with your twins. If one cries, then you attend to that one and both are crying, that's OK too. You can handle it!

    3. Stick to a routine/schedule and write everything down! We had a notebook where we logged every feed, every diaper change, and their naps and it was super helpful!

3 Things She Wishes She Had Done Differently:

    1. I would have limited the visitors at the hospital. We were there for seven days and it felt like someone was always there (with the best intentions) but that made attempting to breastfeed very difficult and awkward at times.

    2. I wish we would have had a night nurse lined up to help at least a couple of nights a week as our babies did not sleep well and we were absolutely sleep deprived in those first five months (before we sleep trained).

    3. I wish we had connected with other twin parents by joining twin groups or organizations such as Twiniversity. Read as many books on twin parenting that you can and soak up the knowledge before the twins arrive because you won't have much time afterward.

The Positives of Having Twins and Potty Training One at a Time | UK Twin Mom Melanie Bidwell

The Positives of Having Twins and Potty Training One at a Time | UK Twin Mom Melanie Bidwell

Nat chats with UK mom Melanie Bidwell about raising 3 1/2-year-old twin boys, including getting pregnant with their 4th round of IVF, a positive C-section story, having anxiety leaving the house with infant twins, the high energy of two boys, potty training them one at a time, the positives of having twins, and so much more.

Melanie Bidwell is a UK mum of 3 1/2-year-old twin boys. After many years they were the positive result after four rounds of IVF and although still shocked it was twins, it was a welcome miracle. After having the boys she went back to work part-time and also decided to set up a business called Just4twins. There didn't seem to be many UK-based websites for twin parents so she took the leap and set one up. And during Covid with another fellow twin mum, Melanie set up a twin support group called Multipals. Having twins has changed her life for the better and brought so much happiness to her and her husband.

Bo and Stephanie Giddens started their lives together 5 years ago. Both had a son from previous marriages that ended. The 4 of them grew to love each other and enjoyed their time as a family. Bo and Stephanie decided that they wanted to have a baby together to complete their little family. Harley was born in 2017. They thought their family was complete with 3 boys. Two short years later they found out they were expecting again. They found out at around 9 weeks pregnant that they’d be expecting two babies! That was the longest doctor's appointment!! Mom was considered advanced maternal age because she would be delivering these two at 35 years old. Bo and Stephanie found out they would be adding two boys to their family! Mama was able to carry the boys to 37 weeks and delivered healthy babies! What a blessing! You can find them on Facebook.

She also co-writes a blog with her two sisters who also suffer from infertility at insanitytimesthree.com. In all that spare time she has Rebekah loves to workout, travel, write, work on her Etsy shop, workout, eat and binge on really excellent TV shows.
