Nikaronhya'a Dawn Martin (Kanyen'kehà:ka) Miss Six Nations, Teacher, Two-Spirit Advocate, Farmer
AUNTIE: Wa’tkwanonhweráton Sewakwékon. On this edition of The Aunties Dandelion we visit with Emergent Auntie Nikaronhyá’a Dawn Martin who is Kanyen’kehà:ka (or Mohawk) from Six Nations of the Grand River Rotinonhsón:ni Territory and who recently won the title of Miss Six Nations. Nikaronhyá’a is a two-spirit culture and language carrier, a teacher, and a farmer who honors the foundation of the feminine. NIKARONHYA’A: The way I translate it is… that’s my power… that is my power. My mother is my power, my mother is my strength – that is where I get – all the will to live comes from her and that could be Mother Earth or my birth mother, right? AUNTIE: During our visit we discuss Nikaronhya’a’s relationship with the beauty and trauma of her community and family and how the power of our Mohawk language - through her father’s influence - has become her support and guide. NIKARONHYA’A: He said it’s about the voices of your ancestors. It’s not even about a word. And that’s what he would talk about is vibration and energy. That that word don’t live on the paper. That word don’t live in the text book. That word only lives with us in our being and our energy and our voice and our breath to make it come into existence. AUNTIE: We are Yethi Nihsténha ne Tekaronyakánere – the Aunties Dandelion. We’re a media collective focused on revitalizing our communities through stories of land, language, and relationships. We are thrilled today to say “nyá:wen” which means “thank you” in Mohawk to the our friends at the Indigenous Screen Office of Canada onkak teyonhkiwihstekénha who are funding our podcast for the coming year. So make some tea, get comfortable and take some time to… listen to your Aunties.

Episode #59: Lives Destroyed By Hillsong Church, Why A Church Is A Business & Why A Church Is Not A Home With Noemi Uribe, 2SLGBTQIA+ & Latinx Advocate

    INTRODUCTION:

Noemi Uribe (she/they) is a queer Latinx advocate living in Boston, MA. Growing up in a Latinx Pentecostal church shaped the way they saw homosexuality and Christian theology. After leaving their families church and attending a Hillsong church in Boston, they thought they had found a safe space to finally question their sexuality and faith. But what she experienced was the complete opposite. After leaving and surviving religious trauma, Noemi is now speaking out in order to warn other LGBTQ+ people and allies of the dangers of church ambiguity on LGBTQ+ policies and bring the good news of queer theology.

Episode #34: "Claircognizance," Soul Connections, Military Mayhem and Coming Out with Claircognizant Psychic, Stopher Cavins

Episode #34: "Claircognizance," Soul Connections, Military Mayhem and Coming Out with Claircognizant Psychic, Stopher Cavins

    INTRODUCTION:

Stopher Cavins is a claircognizant psychic and intuitive blogger. His spiritual gift of claircognizance provides him with an uncanny "knowing" of information and outcomes. This psychic ability allows him to provide healing messages and clarity from divine sources.

Stopher offers psychic mediumship readings to those in need of clarity and healing. He also blogs on his website, (https://www.myfatedlife.com), about his personal journey in order to connect with others that have had similar experiences.

Stopher is an open book. He has taken a very winding path on his journey to where he is now. His goal is to share his history of successes, failures, traumas, etc. in order to help others understand the beauty of their own similar experiences.

Stopher spent so much of his life in a “me bubble”. Situations that occurred during his childhood presented him with challenges which he dealt with by going into survival mode. Unfortunately, he would remain in that defensive survival mode for the next 30 plus years. This would present a real challenge to those trying to get close to him.

Throughout his 20’s and 30’s, Stopher didn’t seek answers from within. He liked the idea of spirituality, but he would never make time to connect spiritually. Stopher’s time was spent protecting his “me bubble”. Ego was fully engaged, enabled, and empowered. Let’s just say that he was not the easiest person to be around.

For Stopher, this way of life was getting the job done. His fully empowered ego was protecting him from experiencing the pain and heartache that he experienced in his childhood. The flip side is that Stopher was extremely unfulfilled and always disappointed with where he was in life.

As Stopher entered his 40’s, things changed for him. The universe was tired of hearing him complain about not having what he thought he deserved. Stopher was launched into what he later realized was a spiritual awakening. It is hard to explain, but basically, Stopher felt the need to break free from absolutely everything that was holding him in place. Some might call it a mid-life crisis, but Stopher knows it was something much deeper. It was something that came from deep within his existence. The real “me” finally stood up and took control.

    ·      A discussion of “claircognizance”

    ·      Does everyone possess psychic abilities?

    ·      Spirit team defined

    ·      Soul connections

    ·      Dealing with death

MMIW Series, Part 4: Ahyoka’s Survivor Story

In this episode, Ahyoka Atali tells her personal story as an MMIWG2S survivor. If you've ever wondered about the stories behind the countless photos of missing and murdered Indigenous women, this episode offers a window into the dark reality of this ongoing crisis.

Because the MMIW epidemic takes many different forms,  Ahyoka's story is quite different from the experiences of other survivors. If you'd like to understand the bigger picture, please check out the last 3 episodes. Erika and Ahyoka delve into the history of genocide on Turtle Island, residential schools, poverty on reservations, the Land Back movement, cultural appropriation, fetishization of Indigenous women, and the connection between the MMIW epidemic and extractive capitalism.

If you are a survivor, a family member, or a loved one of someone who has gone missing, we ask that you be gentle with yourself when deciding if you have the capacity to listen to this episode. Also, please be gentle with Ahyoka, who was very brave to share her story with the world. She did this in the hopes that others will open their eyes to this terrible reality so that we might change it and help protect the lives of other Indigenous women, girls, and Two Spirit.

On February 18th, '21 I sat down with Cerberus an indigenous, two spirited individual that's finding her place being ts'msyen. A creative mind that delves into art and writing! Unlike the other guests before her we get into discussions about disability and accessibility more heavily than before. She gets into the nitty gritty of her experiences with diagnosis that have doctors scratching their heads or failing to give one in general. As well as the mental and physical conditions that she deals with on a daily basis.

Cerb's life is quite the rollercoaster and thanks to retracing his roots, it's only gotten more exciting for him. He recounts how he's been separated from his traditions, but since finding them again is glad to carry them onto the next generation. Including passing on his language and looking forward to finding out more.

[Disclaimer: Please listen to your healthcare advisers. Recounting experiences/criticizing diagnosis in hindsight doesn't equate to medical advice.]

Sources for this episode provided by Ryn Ufe:

Back in February 12th 2021 I sat down with Ryn Ufe a groundbreaking activist and vocal member of the Houma tribe embodying the spirit of the 'Land Back' movement. They pulled out all the stops to chock this interview full of useful information. (Like literally they brought notes!)

They represent their culture and where they come from in an honest light. It's not always the prettiest thing living in a swamp, but it's got its perks. Although, Ryn doesn't waste time explaining why what would usually be a blooming swamp teaming with biodiversity has turned into a rather rough place to get by in. Pollution and oil leaks have ravaged the land, killing plants and fish alike.

If you've ever wondered why Indigenous peoples won't stand down this episode is a MUST to listen to. These are layered issues without easy solutions, but Ryn is willing to put in the work. They've put themselves to work making the tribe better by practicing herbal medicine, becoming a street medic, preserving the language, and speaking at events. You'll see that Ryn may be a dog but they're certainly not all bark!

    Episode 6: Decolonizing Queer Canada

    Episode 6: Decolonizing Queer Canada

In recent years, and especially during the pandemic of 2020, racism and colonization are topics that are being discussed a lot - not just in academic circles or among racialised people, but in the mainstream.  Conversations are happening everywhere and it's leading to real change, both in attitude and policy around the world.

Here in North America, Black Lives Matter has gained momentum in the US and has bled into Canada, which has opened the lines of communication up to discuss other injustices and the lasting effects of genocide right here.  So what better time to discuss the impacts of colonization in Canada and what that looks like for the Indigenous people in our country?

In this episode, Caitlin tries a Zoom recording for the first time (with mixed results) and dives into the topic with her guest, Vie Jones, a visual artist and drag performer who currently resides in Halifax (K'jipuktuk) but grew up in a First Nation community in southern Ontario.  Vie is Anishinaabe, non-binary, Two Spirit and a student of fine art who uses various artistic platforms to illustrate their views and educate the audience...and a dear old friend, to boot!  Decolonization is a complex topic and only a portion can be covered in one episode, but Vie may return in the future to share further wisdom, so stay tuned!

Our goal for this series is to have frank discussions about the stories and nuances missed by sensationalist media as well as to uncover the ways in which white supremacy, capitalism, and colonialism is shaping our movements and behaviours.

Missing Witches is entirely member-supported, and getting to know the members of our Coven has been the most fun, electrifying, unexpectedly radical part of the project.    These days the Missing Witches Coven gathers in our private, online coven circle to offer each other collaborative courses in ritual, weaving, divination, and more; we organize writing groups and witchy book clubs; and we gather on the Full and New Moon from all over the world.    Our coven includes solitary practitioners, community leaders, techno pagans, crones, baby witches, neuroqueers, and folks who hug trees and have just been looking for their people.    Our coven is trans-inclusive, anti-racist, feminist, pro-science, anti-ableist, and full of love.   If that sounds like your people, come find out more. Please know that we've been missing YOU.    https://www.missingwitches.com/join-the-coven/
