Trailer: S3: Episode 11 | Andrew Williams | Embracing Inclusion and Diversity

So it's a call to discomfort, not a call to comfort and going back to our earlier conversation, often it seems so much of our faith paradigm is not a call to comfort, but it justifies our comfort. It allows us to remain in the same place and it allows us to huddle, and it doesn't call us to bring in other people in discomfort. Matthew 5, I won't read it all but it goes on and on to a point where we're stripped of the comforts, God seeps in and we start looking outwards. And in that outward embrace, we start embracing more people. And it's almost as if your internal engine flips to the way it was meant to be. Before we're trying to suck in satisfaction. All of a sudden we're breathing the life, breathing life into the people and the experiences around us.

The Pilgrim's Progress - Historical Background Part 2

The Pilgrim's Progress - Historical Background Part 2

Tyndale laid the foundation for the Reformation in England through his English translation of the Bible. Henry VIII tore England away from the Catholic Church and created the Church of England, but then Mary I returned the country to Catholicism. Elizabeth I pulled it out again and insisted on uniformity amongst all the churches. James I and Charles I increased persecution of those who didn't conform, which helped lead the country into Civil War and a period of much greater religious freedom.

Trailer: Scripture Untangled | S3 Ep 3 | John Franklin | How Scripture and the Arts Intersect

Art opens us to newness, to unexpected possibilities and the Gospel does the same...opens us to newness, the resurrection, the promise, a new heaven, new Earth. So, it opens us to newness and unexpected possibilities so I think there's this sort of parallel between the Gospel and the arts. One other thing I would want to say is that both the arts and the Gospel invite us to a posture of receptivity. What we like in our culture is control and management. Art says, listen, listen, look, receive and that posture of receptivity I think is essential for us if we're going to flourish as human beings.

Today’s guest is John Franklin, interviewed by Rev. Dr. Andrew Stirling. They’ll be speaking about the intersection of the arts and the Bible.

He is based in Toronto and, before joining Imago in 1998, he taught philosophy at Tyndale College. Currently, he is an adjunct professor in theology at Tyndale Seminary and Trinity College at the Toronto School of Theology, University of Toronto. His special interest is in theology and the arts. He has served on the Board of Lausanne Movement Canada for 13 years and is Coordinator of the World Evangelical Alliance - Mission Commission’s Task Force on Art in Mission.

Imago’s mandate is to affirm the artistic gift and to encourage and facilitate creative initiatives in the arts that will make a positive contribution to the Canadian cultural landscape.

Episode 7 | Domenic Ruso | How History Puts Everything Into Context

This episode gets into the academic conversation as Andrew and Domenic dive into some meaty topics of Scripture based on Domenic’s expertise in church history in order to help us untangle Scripture for ourselves.

Domenic Ruso is the founding pastor of 180 Church in Laval and most recently finished his Ph.D. in Historical Theology at Trinity College, University of Toronto. Born and raised in Montreal, Dom's early faith experiences came from going to a Roman Catholic Church and later experiencing an added understanding of his faith within a Protestant context.  Having ministered in other provinces he returned and founded a Church in Quebec. Domenic has a thorough understanding of the challenges of a faith community in the Quebec context, and also partners with other churches who have a deep love for the province of Quebec and a desire to teach and reach people for Christ.

    Matthew 5:10-12 The Blessed Persecuted

    Matthew 5:10-12 The Blessed Persecuted

Jesus says, "Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness' sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are you when others revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account. 12 Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you."

    I. Disciples may be hunted and hurt for loving Jesus, v10. II. Disciples may be scorned and slandered for loving Jesus, v11. III. Disciples should rejoice and leap for joy.
