Ep. 57: Talking About Little T And Large T Traumas

Ep. 57: Talking About Little T And Large T Traumas

All trauma is valid, I want to start by saying that.

But, the kind of resources/support we need to work through our trauma is different. I have learned recently about little T and big T trauma, and how knowing (when working through a specific event/experience) which type of trauma you're working through can not only help you understand better what kind of help you may need/most benefit from, but also take steps to get the right support.

As someone who is pretty strong on the "all trauma is valid" outlook, I have never really stopped to think about it this way. However, I will say learning about this has quickly put a lot right into perspective for me!

Ep. 51: Automatic Trauma Responses, The Four F's, And Rewiring The Brain

In today's episode, we're having a great conversation and unpacking a lot!

We're diving into automatic trauma responses, what the four F's are in regards to automatic trauma responses, and what it takes/ways we can rewire our brains.

As someone who has been through a lot of trauma but also done a lot of hard work to work through different things, I feel that by sharing what I've experienced and learned over time I can maybe be a friend to some of you looking for proof/an example that you can work through the things you may be doubting you can get through.

If you are really struggling and/or are concerned about your well being, please don't be scared to talk to the people in your personal life and get professional help if you feel it would benefit you. There is no shame in struggling, and you're not alone in what you're facing.

SAFETY: The primary reason you aren’t hitting your goals

SAFETY: The primary reason you aren’t hitting your goals

Is “safety” a buzzword that’s overused? Your host Lindsay Poelman doesn’t think so. Creating an environment of safety for your clients doesn’t hurt those who don’t need it or won’t notice. But it CAN make a world of difference to a client with a dysregulated nervous system. Prioritizing safety is INCLUSIVE. It’s a way for your work to benefit a wider spectrum of people. Today I’m sharing the importance of safety, some research behind it, and actionable tips you can use starting NOW to create safety. There is so much you can do as a coach to create an environment of safety, for your clients and for yourself.

Listen to the full episode to learn how tools like asking questions, boundaries, self care, not having an agenda, and more can create safety for you and your clients.

Your host, certified life coach Lindsay Poelman started her journey of intentional healing when she learned that her husband had been lying to her about pornography use for a greater part of their marriage.  After processing and accepting her circumstance more fully, she found coaching—which propelled her into a forward focused state of empowerment.

Over the last four years of deep dive/fundamental coaching for women in betrayal (around porn use, spouses coming out around gender identity and sexuality, childhood neglect and abuse, substance abuse, infidelity, emotional abuse, domestic violence, institutional trauma, and more.), she has observed that if you’re working with humans, you can’t handpick clients who don’t carry trauma.

This is why she developed a Trauma-Informed approach to mindset work and relationships that take into account the nuance of being a human. She believes that being trauma informed is an essential standard of care for coaches. She created this podcast to support life coaches who recognize that there is so much more than mindset work when it comes to supporting their clients responsibly.

Breaking Midlife Social Norms with Kristi Falany

Breaking Midlife Social Norms with Kristi Falany

“At the end of the day, I think our biggest human need is to be seen and to be heard. Being able to provide that for another human being is huge.” - Kristi Falany

There comes a point for many women where they find themselves lost in what they are supposed to do with their lives. For years society has conditioned us to follow a certain path, to raise a family, have a career, follow societal norms, but that path left little room for self exploration and growth after the age of 50. In this episode your host Lindsay Poelman examines how women can find joy and meaning in life outside of the constraints of what is expected of them.

In this episode she sits down with Kristi Falany, a midlife coach that helps women in their 50's and beyond find confidence and joy in this period of their lives, and they talk about:

    • Her experiences as a 4th grade teacher and finding a different route that provided her life with more meaning and purpose
    • Her client's experiences, fears, and concerns around midlife age and finding joy outside of what they have been conditioned to do.
    • Women and societal conditioning - the expectations of what our roles are in every stage of our lives.

Kristi firmly believes that 50 and beyond can be the best years of your life. Kristi shares how  her reinvention techniques and simple tools can completely change your life.

On Money, Being Seen in Groups, & Coaching Philosphies with Rachelle Siebke - PART II

On Money, Being Seen in Groups, & Coaching Philosphies with Rachelle Siebke - PART II

Time flew while Rachelle and your host Lindsay Poelman were recording so,  we broke this into a Part I and a Part II Episode set.

So many insightful nuggets were shared, we wanted you to hear the FULL conversation.

Working for yourself can bring out unresolved emotions and thoughts that question your worthiness and ability to make the right choices. For many of us, those choices comes down to financial awareness, making decisions for our businesses, and understanding the inner work that we need to do in order to heal and create the life we envision for ourselves.

In this episode I sit down with Rachelle Siebke, a money coach for life coaches and creative solopreneurs and talk about:

    • Her experience working with people who struggle with their financial decisions and how she was able to overcome that herself.
    • How changing the way she looks at the CTFAR Model has taken her coaching to a new level.
    • The compounded impact of coming together in safe circles to see and be seen--and what she's found by being connected to a forever group of Trauma-Informed Coaches (Rachelle was on the Inaugural Retreat for ARTC Coaches last fall in the South of France).
    • We also discuss imposter syndrome and how that can impact the way we show up for ourselves and our business.

Rachelle models what she teaches and it shows in the away she approaches and blends thought work while supporting clients in anchoring deeply into their knowing. Her approach to money as an Expert Money Coaching is a breath of fresh air, as she supports clients in finding "their right way."

How Misuse of the CTFAR Model Causes Us to Bulldoze Our Nervous Systems

How Misuse of the CTFAR Model Causes Us to Bulldoze Our Nervous Systems

If your body or nervous system isn’t on board when you’re choosing new thoughts to believe, the unconscious programming will, with time usually override those unsustainable affirmations you’re offering up.

If we want to live that life of freedom, joy, openness, abundance, love, and peace, that comes with befriending our body, not ignoring it.

And this is the approach we take in Relationship Trauma Certification for Coaches. We’re developing out your relationship with YOUrself, with the language of your body. Learning about your UNIQUE PATTERNS of processing, thinking, manifesting, and healing. Developing the belief that you are the final authority on YOU, and your needs. Learning the language of YOUR body that only YOU know.

In this episode your host Lindsay Poelman talks about how the CTFAR model can be a great tool to help you in your healing journey, but is not necessarily a substitute for your body's intuition. She discusses things like:

    • How it’s a common thing for us to gaslight ourselves as women,
    •  Why we question ourselves when something goes wrong, or something goes amiss.
    • How many times have you found yourself questioning your “crazy” in different parts of your life?
    • The abuse culture that has been normalized in our patriarchal society has caused us to internalize the pattern of self-gaslighting self blame, and over responsibility.

[COACHING MYTHS] 100% Accountability, is this always a good thing? What are we missing?

[COACHING MYTHS] 100% Accountability, is this always a good thing? What are we missing?

Enter the rise of coaching. Now this may vary from person to person, and from certification to certification, but problems can come in and arise when you stick to one model as the answer  to all of your problems.

It keeps people from setting boundaries when it is necessary to create safety, because they think the safety then need comes from more thinking than trusting their body and nervous system needs.

It keeps people forcing what their deep deep knowing knows because the ego loves linearity and rationale.

In this episode your host Lindsay Poelman talks about the myths of coaching and how healing is not only top down. As we approach healing and growth with a blended approach (top - bottom and bottom-top ) this is where EVERYTHING changes. This is where you really see that you are the authority over yourself, your healing, etc. She offers ways to help you answer questions when taking accountability like:

    • Am I taking more than my share of responsibility for this scenario?
    • Is the level of responsibility I’m taking helping me?
    • Is there any shame or judgment that needs to go?

Why clients get activated by words like Intuition

Why clients get activated by words like Intuition

Having a connected relationship with your intuition is having a connected relationship with yourself. By listening and understanding to your intuition, you're honoring your body's needs at that moment.

In this episode Lindsay Poelman offers ways to understand your intuition, how to foster a deeper connection with it, and why it's ok to not guilt yourself if you can't follow through on what your intuition is telling you at that moment. She talks about:

    • Having trauma responses and listening to your intuition
    • Understanding what your body needs at that moment
    • Honoring yourself while also understanding what your gut feeling is telling you

Breaking Free From the Hands that Fed You

Breaking Free From the Hands that Fed You

Relationships are often dynamic and consist of different power structures throughout our lives. As women especially, from the way we have been conditioned, we may sometimes even place power over our lives to those who don't even realize they have it.

In this episode Lindsay Poelman offers ways to recognize the different power dynamics in your life and how to break free from what isn't serving your ability to live your truest, most liberated life. She talks about:

    • Different relationship dynamics between power and authority
    • How those dynamics relate to humans
    • How to recognize the hands that you feel have power over you
    • Potential people pleasing tendencies that lead to this

Conditioned Religious Misconceptions that Do Damage

Conditioned Religious Misconceptions that Do Damage

Tune into this week’s podcast where common religious misconceptions are made about people when they begin to differentiate from their church.

Most of the time,  the assumptions we make are more of a clear hit into our own conditioning—rather than what the person you’re observing is experiencing.

And in Lindsay’s words: “I share all of this with the most love in my heart because I care about you and I believe in you as a coach. If you’re reading this, it’s very likely that you have your clients’ best interest at heart.”

The tools Lindsay teaches in her advanced certification for coaches can facilitate your coaching in this arena as well. It will minimize harm that can and does happen in the coaching industry.

And most importantly, these tools will facilitate your relationship with yourself.

    In this episode Lindsay discusses:

    • How you can be an advocate for marginalized groups in religion
    • Why that doesn't exclude you from also practicing said religion
    • The different misconceptions related to religious trauma
    • How we can be conditioned in religious institutions
    • How to recognize these conditioning roles

Ep 31: How Trauma Affects Our Bodies

Ep 31: How Trauma Affects Our Bodies

Today we're going to have a chat about trauma, specifically how it is stored in and affects our bodies.

Trauma affects people in many ways (and everyone of us in different ways), but it is hard on every one of us. I want to have a conversation about it, so we can all have a better understanding and be a little more gentle with ourselves when something traumatic does happen to us.

If you're experiencing trauma or working through trauma right now I want you to know that although it will be painful, uncomfortable, scary, and take time you can work through it and get to a place where the affects of trauma don't consume your mind or body. I've done it, and promise you can too.

If this episode resonates with you, feel free to message me on Instagram (my handle is @thisiskaitey) so we can connect more! If you know someone who should hear this, share it on social media and tag m so I can thank you for helping spread the word about Triumph After Trauma!

Thank you for you support since I started this, it means the world! I'm so grateful we're connected, and on this journey together! <3
