Ep. 103 Kegan Gill former US Navy F/A-18E strike fighter pilot Fastest survived ejection in the history of naval aviation

On today's Zero Limits Podcast I chat with Kegan Gill former US Navy F/A-18E strike fighter pilot.

Kegan Gill’s life changed forever after narrowly surviving a jet crash in which he set the record for the fastest ejection in naval aviation history. In the process of ejecting, Kegan sustained catastrophic injuries that literally ripped his limbs apart along with a severe traumatic brain injury. His body landed in the ice cold waters of the Atlantic, and his wet suit had ripped open. With his parachute still attached, and unable to move his arms, Kegan was continuously dunked into the freezing water for two hours before his rescue. Luckily, his hypothermic condition kept him from bleeding to death.

Today, he shares his story of the accident, his miraculous physical recovery, and the extreme hardships he faced following the incident. He explains how a traumatic brain injury led him to a psych word, on psychiatric medication - and how he started his journey to healing, and supporting others to do the same.

On today's podcast Matt chats with Eddie Gallagher a retired Navy SEAL that served for 20 years  served as a Navy Corpsman, Marine Scout Sniper and Navy SEAL  completing 8 deployments, including tours to both Afghanistan and Iraq.

On his last combat deployment to Iraq in 2017, Eddie led a platoon to successfully defeat ISIS in Mosul. For his performance and leadership, he was highly commended upon returning home. He was named the #1 Navy SEAL Chief, nominated for a Silver Star, and slated for promotion to Senior Chief. He was then awarded a coveted training billet for his ‘twilight tour’ as a SEAL, where in his last years in the SEAL teams he would bestow his experience and knowledge to future SEAL team members as they prepared to deploy.

Eddie who was acquitted after being accused of war crimes. He came to national attention in the United States after he was charged in September 11th 2018 with ten offenses under the Uniform Code of Military Justice. In the most prominently reported offense, he was accused of fatally stabbing an injured 17-year-old ISIS prisoner, photographing himself with the corpse, and sending the photo to friends.

On July 2, 2019, Gallagher was convicted of posing for a photograph with the corpse of an ISIS fighter, but was acquitted of all other charges after Special Operator Corey Scott, a member of Gallagher’s team granted immunity as a witness against Gallagher, testified that he had killed the prisoner

Hosted by cancer survivor and philanthropist Vince Todd, Jr., Chairman and Co-Founder of the Heroes Foundation, and Heroes Foundation Board Member Daniel Abdallah, the Summits Podcast is a place for people to share their stories. Everyone has a cancer story. From battling a deadly disease to caring for a loved one, when we rise up and face life’s greatest challenges, we see with a new vision, feel with a greater passion, and think with a deeper perspective. Along the way, paths cross, journeys intersect, and missions converge. For Vince Todd, it was his own cancer diagnosis that led him and his wife, Cindy, to launch the Heroes Foundation to provide meaningful support to cancer patients, education to promote cancer prevention, and resources to advance research for a cure. What started with friends and family grew into a community. The Summits Podcast is an extension of that community. Our stories are what bring us together. Artists, athletes, doctors, business people - we’re all family members, community leaders, and activists. Everyone has a story. Anyone can inspire. No one battles alone. Join the conversation. Let’s climb the summit together.

    Top Gun: Maverick (2022)

He still feels the need, the need for speed!  Maverick (Tom Cruise) is back after more than 36 years – he’s still toiling with the Navy as a Captain and still likes flying jets.  He has now been called back to the Top Gun academy at Miramar by his superiors….to train a NEW crop of flyers for a top secret mission.  Those new flyers include various characters with various call-signs including Hangman, Phoenix, Coyote, and…..Rooster (Miles Teller) who is actually the son of Goose, which was his best friend who died during a training exercise in the first movie.  Yes this is indeed a DIRECT sequel to the 1986 smash Top Gun but it’s so much more than just a sequel. 😊 Joseph Kosinski (Tron Legacy) directs this aerial adventure also starring Jennifer Connelly, Jon Hamm, Charles Parnell, Glenn Powell, and Ed Harris.
