Surviving Domestic Abuse with Lianne Torres

Today we are talking with Lianne Torres, a badass human and survivor. She found herself in an emotionally & physically abusive relationship and a victim of domestic violence, without even realizing it. She had become an expert at settling for less & allowing people to treat her like garbage.

The wake-up call came one fateful night when her life was almost taken from her by the hands of her abuser. This was the moment that she knew she needed to change and it was time for a hard reset in order to begin healing the deep-rooted emotional wounds that had been left bleeding, unhealed, and infected for so many years. It was time to start focusing on the one relationship she neglected for her whole life… the one with herself.

Today, Liane shares her journey to help and inspire other women through personal development coaching & as proud creator and host of the Watch Us Thrive podcast.

Unconditional Love with Hannah Erganian Robinson

Unconditional Love with Hannah Erganian Robinson

There is no ONE WAY to define love or family.

Today we are welcoming on the pod, Hannah Erganian Robinson.

Hannah grew up outside of Columbia, Missouri on a small farm. Her love for animals began at a young age, as she watched her mother take in stray dogs, cats, birds, even possums, that wandered up to the farm.

After graduating from the University of Missouri she moved to Kansas City & found her career in event planning. She traveled the world planning & executing events for large corporations….And looking for the “perfect life” along the way, the life she thought she was supposed to have. One with a white picket fence, a husband, 2 kids—you know the one. And now, at 40, never been married, no kids, Hannah threw out the rule book, took a deep breath & started living the life she wanted: one where she loves hard, takes risks and shares unconditional love for her beautiful doggo, soul mate and fur child Blanche. This deep unconditional love was the driving force behind Hannah’s determination to prolong Blanche’s life after being diagnosed with heart failure and fly from Missouri to the UK for a life saving surgery.

Getting My Voice Back - How To Deal With Adult Bullying

Getting My Voice Back - How To Deal With Adult Bullying

Mike discusses his 25 year friendship with an adult bully, and how it impacted his self confidence, self esteem, and personal relationships.    This episode is a must listen if you feel you're being bullied by a close friend, because it actually happens and can impact many areas of your life.   From Mike's desire to help others, to his spirituality, Mike's friend "Javier" would constantly take the opportunity whenever possible to insult him for the very qualities people loved about him.   Words weren't enough with Javier and they were often accompanied by graphic images and videos of mutilated animals, filmed suicides, persons shot in the head... even threats of violence on occasion.   Mike's desire to share his story comes from his personal belief that all life experiences have purpose, and perhaps he can prevent this from happening to others.

74: He Loves Me But He Hurts Me: teen dating violence didn't stop her with Dee Dee Said

74: He Loves Me But He Hurts Me: teen dating violence didn't stop her with Dee Dee Said

WARNING: This interview contains descriptions of violence and sex that are not suited for children below the age of 12.

February is Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month.

My guest, Dee Dee Said, was involved in an abusive teen dating relationship between the ages of 16 and 19; she shares about the raw details in her book, It Doesn’t Start with a Punch: My Journey through an Abusive Teen Dating Relationship

While it’s hard to hear Dee Dee describe the emotional, verbal, and physical abuse she endured, she offers valuable insight into the subtle ways her abuser drew her in and kept her fearful enough to not disobey or anger him. As parents, educators, neighbors, and church friends of tweens through college aged young adults, we NEED TO KNOW these warning signs.

A few statistics to be aware of:

    ·        1 in 10 teens will experience teen dating violence

    ·        Youth ages 12 to 19 experience the highest rates of rape and sexual assault

    ·        62% of tweens surveyed said they knew friends who had been verbally abused (called stupid, worthless, ugly, etc.) by a boyfriend or girlfriend

The National Dating Abuse helpline number is 1.866.331.9474

Please listen to this interview yourself first for your knowledge. Then, I do encourage you to invite a tween through college aged young adult to listen to it with you. Have a conversation after listening to Dee Dee’s interview together.

Why I Ended the Relationship with Mr. NoHeart

Why I Ended the Relationship with Mr. NoHeart

I break down critical moments that made me realize that my ex white boyfriend had racists tendencies and that his racists mother and family members made sure racism did not skip a generation. I talk about how it is vital to on top of getting to know the person you are dating but to meet/interview the parents and their children (if they have any) because that can ruin a relationship and cause divorce/ breakup. This ex I am 98% sure followed Andrew Tate. I did not realize it until the pandemic, but I started looking back and examining different situations and how he allowed his family to treat me and red flags, fire alarms were going off everywhere. I talk about how he did not value me, but he valued what I could do for him and that he was allowed to verbally abuse me for seven years. I will give this story a part two because I only touched the surface, but this is why I am very strict on who and who I will not date.

HOST JACKIE TANTILLO - Determined To Shape Her Future With Guest Interior Designer Lynda Huffman

HOST JACKIE TANTILLO - Determined To Shape Her Future With Guest Interior Designer Lynda Huffman

Lynda Huffman left the corporate world after decades of working in medical sales. At this point in her life she wanted to concentrate on what made her happy -interior design. For over 30 years, she'd been designing and decorating on the side and now she's created the "Let's Decorate App" to help anyone and everyone have an easier time at what can be an overwhelming task-fixing up their own home.  Lynda will help you every step of the way.

Lynda said that her story was complicated and in fact it truly is. I'll do my best in filling in the details.

Lynda's parents were in their teens when they met and realized that Carolyn, Lynda's biological mother, was pregnant. They married, then shortly before the baby was born, her father was sent to Vietnam.

Subsequently, once dad was oversees, Carolyn was considered an unfit mother and lost custody of her two year old daughter.  At that point, Lynda's grandmother was granted custody.  Within a year Lynda was kidnapped from her grandmother's home by her mom and brought her daughter to Louisiana.  One night, Lynda was left under the care of an underage babysitter while her mother went to work. Unfortunately, Lynda had a terrible fever and the babysitter and her family brought her to the hospital. The doctors told them that Lynda had 103 fever and Rubella. A missing child report was filed and they brought Lynda back to her grandmother's care.

Lynda's father was summoned back to the US from Vietnam in order to handle the divorce and make sure his daughter was  safe and sound and then sent  back to fight in the war.  Two years passed and he eventually married Lynda's 'step mother'. The couple was married for 40 years. Lynda prefers to not give a name to her step mother and I'm sure you'll understand as you hear more of the story.

Lynda knows now that her step mother was extremely jealous of her.  Lynda also knows that her step-mother came from a very dysfunctional family and had a very abusive childhood.  "She was a constant source of real torment for me. All of my friends called me Cinderella" explains Lynda. I was her slave around the house. I was constantly told I was ugly and fat and I was never going to have a man take care of me" shares Lynda. This abuse started when Lynda was seven years old and lasted until she moved out at 18. Step-mom would lie to Lynda's father about things she never did in order to keep Lynda on restriction and not be able to leave the house.  "She kept me under thumb and she made sure that my dad was always mad at me for something," reflects my guest.

For the most part, Lynda says "she was a good kid, though she did get caught sneaking out of the house one time but six weeks on restriction for not folding the clothes, was a bit much." My guest says she was just a good kid, a wall flower."  Lynda graduated hight school at seventeen, "but her dad wouldn't let her go away to college. My step mom was in my dad's ear, she didn't want me to leave the house."

At 18, finally Lynda was able to move out of the house and got a job and was never going to go back to that house again. Lynda wanted to go to college whether she paid for it herself or not. She paid for college herself and she was never going to have to depend on them for anything. Lynda was going to prove to her step mother that "she did not need a man to take care of her!"

Carolyn, Lynda's biological mom eventually  wanted to spend more time visiting her daughter. It wasn't until my guest was eighteen years old that she was able to go out with her mother alone.  At this point, Lynda had her mother on a pedestal. Lynda had envisioned her mom as 'a dream.' Anyone would be better than her step mother. Well, it turns out Carolyn had gotten remarried, but had  gotten pregnant just prior to  marrying her future second husband  and never told the truth about who's baby she was carrying.

Lynda reflects on  the incredible take away of this story "it's made me who I am- good, bad or indifferent. I think that we make choices in life. I could have spent  the rest of my life feeling that anger that my mom had let me be raised by this wicked step mother." In my mind, when I grew up that's what all my friends called her." We make a decision, we can say, ok, i'm going to let this be the excuse for why I 'm behaving the way, ... but because my step mom was like that I chose to take a different approach with my step children and we are very close, I am very close with my stepchildren and they've been my step children since they were eight years old."

Lynda chose forgiveness over anger after the birth of her second child. She realized that holding onto the anger and resentment toward her biological mother would only hurt her. She didn't want to continue this negative  tradition. Plus her children would benefit from having a grandmother in their life. Lynda is the first to admit that "her mother was a far better grandmother than a mother."

Lynda proudly explains "my grandmother, Margaret,  was the one  I got my design eye from." As young as seven years old, Lynda knew  that she wanted to be an Interior Designer, especially after years of dusting and rearranging everything in her step mother's house every week. One of Lynda's favorite things to do was rearrange and decorate her room as a young girl. It brought her so much joy. In time,  Lynda  began sewing and became a seamstress, making beautiful curtains and pillows and was hoping to work in this field one day.

Lynda can help you from your home on her new App - the "Let's Decorate App."  Everything from choosing paint colors to artwork, rugs, furniture and it's based on a variety of different rate packages based how many consultations you think you'd like, etc. You can ask Lynda  questions, send her room dimension, etc. It's all within the App so you'll have everything there as a reference.

HOST JACKIE TANTILLO - Become The Hero Of Your Own Journey With Guest Survivor Grace De Angeli

HOST JACKIE TANTILLO - Become The Hero Of Your Own Journey With Guest Survivor Grace De Angeli

Grace is first generation Italian Australian. Her parents immigrated from Southern Italy to Australia when they were  young. Rosa and Alfredo, Grace's parents, met many years later in Australia and started their family of four girls.  Rosa was one of nine children and she was  fifteen when landing in Australia. Alfredo lost both his parents at five years old and had a rough childhood.  He was a victim of abuse and moved from house to house as a child. De Angeli reflects saying "he did the best he could with what he had."

Grace insists "that it was a cultural thing" as to why her mother stayed throughout  many years of emotional, verbal and physical abuse. Eventually, Grace and her younger sister became targets as well.  It was always the fear and bullying tactic that their father used especially against their mom, Rosa. Grace says that her father would often scream at her mother "you either stay or you die" or "you leave, I'll kill you." So her mother stayed out of fear.  "We were all brought up with the fear that if we did something wrong we would be killed," remarks Grace. "When I think back to my childhood I wasn't protected by my mother, but she taught me who not to be when I grew up."

One would think that this would take a real tole on Grace's life and her future. But the best news is that with the help of her husband and many others, Grace has learned how to transform her life and heal from her scars of her father plus how to beat Breast Cancer with many different treatments and therapies including Eastern and Western Medicines, mind over matter and the list goes on and on. She is a true inspiration. She declares "it doesn't matter where you are in your journey, whether stage 1 or stage 4 breast cancer OR any illness, you need to get things right in your soul and spirit, where you are your most authentic self." She continues, "it doesn't matter as long as you are honest and liberated within yourself, it doesn't matter what happens next."

For a young woman who at twenty one years old had contemplated suicide, to becoming this force of nature to heal not only herself but help others on their individual journey is remarkable.

There's so much more to this story so please do listen to the episode in it's entirety. Grace is emphatic when saying "we were put on this planet to be ourself. If you can be the best version of yourself, you've done it."
