    22. Gary Thiara - General Manager & Partner of Empire Nut Company, Indian roots, building communities, walnuts, sustainable agriculture, and much more.

In this month's episode, I sat down with Gary Thiara, general manager and partner of Empire Nut Company. Throughout our conversation, we spoke about the humble beginnings of the family-owned business, the public perception of the agriculture industry, and how partnering with UnitedAg has strengthened the Thiara family’s relationship with their employees.

Empire Nut Company started as a small orchard, and their success was built upon the support and collaboration of the local farming community. The nature of the agriculture industry produces modest, generous farmers who understand that investing in their communities yields the best harvests. Gary emphasizes that the public’s perception of the agriculture industry often includes stereotypes of overconsumption of natural resources and mistreatment of laborers, which he argues is far from reality. The Thiara family recognizes that the well-being and safety of their employees is essential for the success of their business. Partnering with UnitedAg, as Gary explains, streamlined the integration of healthcare and workplace benefits; this partnership helps address a common challenge in the industry, where these benefits might not be readily accessible. Empire Nut Company’s success derives from the people in their communities -- employees, partners, families – and their generosity. The values held by Empire Nut Company aligns with those of UnitedAg, resulting in a beneficial partnership that contributes to the overall well-being of employees and longevity of business.

Tips for Healthy Late Night Snacks That Induce Sleep

Tips for Healthy Late Night Snacks That Induce Sleep

Why Do We Crave Food So Badly at Night? It's simply due to the fact that:

    (1) We're not eating during the day

    (2) We ate too many starches or refined sugars at dinner

    (3) We didn’t eat enough protein for dinner

    (4) We ate too much fiber (especially in athletes & men), versus proteins and fats

    (5) We are stressed, bored, depressed, or thirsty

There are great options for healthy late night snacks that actually induce sleep with combinations of tryptophan, seretonin, melatonin, magnesium, etc. The winning combination is is the trio of: Proteins, Fiber, and Fats to stay satiated longer. (Decrease processed starches and sugars). All in all, I offer you the quote, "Protein plus fiber equals the best night’s sleep of your life."

Episode 273: by CHLOE. by Chloe Coscarelli

Episode 273: by CHLOE. by Chloe Coscarelli

On today’s episode of THE FOOD SEEN, Chloe Coscarelli may have sweetly introduced herself to the culinary world through vegan cupcakes on Food Network’s “Cupcake Wars”, but it’s her QSR restaurant “by CHLOE”, that’s leading the charge of the plant-based phenomenon. Raised in sunny Santa Monica, where seasonal produce is year round, it seemed a funny choice for Chloe to open her restaurant in NYC. But with every crisp of shiitake bacon topping of “Mac N’ Cheese” (made with a sweet potato-cashew sauce), or her irresistible veggie burgers (a tempeh, lentil, chia, walnut blend), it’s no wonder that veganism isn’t just about health, religion, or eco-consciousness anymore. It’s also delicious! It’s no replacement for meat, because it isn’t supposed to be, so listen in to hear why more of more of the population is moving towards plant-based cooking, and loving it.
