    Where's the Millennial Middle Class?

    Where's the Millennial Middle Class?
It’s a bit of a trope that the millennial generation has had a rough go of it, economically.  After experiencing the Great Financial Crisis during their formative years, attending higher education during a massive debt-fueled student loan bubble, and entering adulthood while home prices were juiced higher and higher, the majority of millennials are now “behind pace,” financially speaking. In 2015, Pew Research conducted an interesting survey: It found that 89% of Americans considered themselves middle class. The survey then attempted to break down what middle class wealth actually looks like, landing on a median net worth of around $125,000 in today’s dollars.  I was curious how many millennials had surpassed that threshold, and as it turns out, the answer is…not many. This episode was inspired by headlines about the impending “Great Wealth Transfer,” often positioned as a solution to millennials’ money woes. But will it be? Let’s dig in. Ep. 718 - Dreaming Of A World Where Michelle Obama And Oprah Winfrey Are No Longer Oppressed

Ep. 718 - Dreaming Of A World Where Michelle Obama And Oprah Winfrey Are No Longer Oppressed

Today on the Matt Walsh Show, Michelle Obama is once again complaining about the persecution she has suffered as a black woman in America. She’s not alone. LeBron James, Oprah Winfrey, Meghan Markle and other black millionaires and billionaires have all frequently complained about our racist system of white privilege. Today we will reflect on their stories. Also Five Headlines including Dr. Fauci finally giving a definitive date for when we can return to normal. It’s a year away. And the CIA doubles down, releasing yet another woke ad. Plus, Sarah Silverman comes after Caitlyn Jenner, proving a few points that I will explain today. And in our Daily Cancellation, we will consider the story of the rapper who was shot and killed by a 15 year old boy for his Rolex watch. What should we say about a man who promotes street violence and then dies by it? Well, we can say a lot, and I will today, and it will make people very mad.

Are the rich really getting richer and poor becoming poorer?

Are the rich really getting richer and poor becoming poorer?
The combined wealth of British households is up 13 per cent between 2016 and 2018 - with the average standing at £286,600.

But it's not all about house prices. In fact, the bulk of the rise is thanks to private pensions rather than property inflation, according to the Office for National Statistics.

And it says that despite plenty of election claims to the contrary the rich aren't getting richer - but does that claim stack up?

On this week’s podcast, Simon Lambert, Lee Boyce and Georgie Frost delve into the figures and ask: is financial inequality growing?

We look at whether a reader can retire at 58 with a £6,000 pension – but £420,000 in a savings account.

Meanwhile, as Vanguard reveals details of its new self-invested personal pension is this now the best home for cheap and easy retirement savings outside of the workplace?

On the not so bright side for investors, M&G has suspended trading on its commercial property fund as savers dash for their cash.

And finally, away from the serious stuff, we ask do you have to pay inheritance tax on a stamp collection - and just how much do you need to hold in Premium Bonds to have a strong chance of winning a £1million jackpot prize.

    Never Go To Vegas

All social classes have unspoken rules. From A-list celebrities to teachers, doctors, lawyers, and journalists — there are social norms that govern our decisions, whether we realize it or not. This week on Hidden Brain, the invisible qualities that all celebrities have in common, and how our interest in them builds because of cues we get from one another. Later in the episode, we look at another elite group: the yoga-loving, Whole Foods-shopping, highly-educated group that researcher Elizabeth Currid-Halkett calls the "aspirational class."
