    Jimmy will be so proud!

His Mom and Dad are guesting on the  Mulligan Stew Podcast.

Jimmy is the 10-year-old son of Melissa McClelland and Luke Doucet of Whitehorse. Jimmy likes the music his Mom and Dad make so much that he’s sitting in on drums during house rehearsals.

Luke and Melissa have just released their 8th album I’m not crying You’re crying.

What started as a possible lockdown country covers project quickly turned into writing their own songs, as though they were writing and singing in the 70s. In Nashville.

What’s best about this album is they sound like they’ve been writing and singing country all their musical life. Which is what they did.

When they met and started Whitehorse it was as a country band. So, they’ve come full circle. Through the blues and back into country.

This podcast tells the tales of those years and their relationship.

It’s a winner and so are Jimmy’s parental unit.

Whitehorse | Breaking Up With Society

Whitehorse | Breaking Up With Society
CKUA's Hidden Track Podcast returns for Season 4!

Kicking things off in 2023 is (currently) Manitoba-based folk rock duo Whitehorse! Composed of husband-and-wife duo Luke Doucet and Melissa McClelland, Whitehorse's sound spans from folk/americana to groove-driven pop rock. Doucet and McClelland have always been talented musicians, and both had successful solo careers before joining forces as Whitehorse.

Released on January 13, 2023, the duo's eighth studio album, "I'm Not Crying, You're Crying", marks a tonal shift to the melancholic sounds of hurtin' classic country. Spurred on by feelings of loneliness and isolation due to the pandemic, I'm Not Crying, You're Crying has been described as a "breakup album with the world." Songs like If The Loneliness Don't Kill Me and 6 Feet Away serve as a cry for human connection, written during a time when those connections were increasingly hard to find.

In our first episode of Hidden Track Season 4, "Whitehorse | Breaking Up With Society", Luke Doucet and Melissa McClelland join CKUA's Grant Stovel from their Manitoba home to discuss the inspirations behind their latest album, how it feels to be touring again, the duo's musical origins (including a story of 14-year-old Luke's blues band) and so much more!

    Podcast 172: Luke Doucet

    Podcast 172: Luke Doucet

On today’s Fretboard Journal Podcast, we talk to the amazing guitarist Luke Doucet of Whitehorse. Doucet tells us about his upbringing in Canada and his relatively late start into the world of guitars, along with the fateful day he met his original guitar teacher in Winnipeg. We then hear about how Doucet is turning his own young son Jimmy onto music and guitars and how Jimmy (at the ripe old age of three) inadvertently helped shape the sound of Whitehorse’s 2017 album, Panther in the Dollhouse.

We also talk guitars, including Doucet’s Gretsch White Falcon, his Fender Custom Shop Jazzmaster, his Creston Lea offset and others.
