We all love a good rescue story. But what happens after the rescue? Is that the end? Is there any more? Today we are in the book of Romans where the first five chapters have highlighted our need for a rescue. Today, beginning in chapter six, we will see that we were not only rescued from something but that we are rescued for something. Specifically, we have not only been rescued from sin and death but we are rescued for Life. And not just any life but life with Christ. What does that look like? Join us as we take a deeper look.

With all of the talk about Church Hurt and the things the Church has done that has negatively effected people, it's easy to forget about the role and responsibility we each play...

What are we supposed to do when this thing that Jesus loved and gave His life for – the Church – is at the center of deeply hurtful experiences? How do we navigate this kind of hurt? Do we pretend like it’s not a big deal? Do we walk away and write it off? Do we re-engage? And if so, is there hope that things could be different?

John talks about how we have two principal feasts and should not be displaced by any other celebration:  Epiphany and the Baptism of the Lord

Originally they were on the same day, and still are for many Eastern Orthodox Churches.
Both stories are unsettling, intense, almost violent. They rupture the lives of those involved

He finishes by asking

• Who is the God revealed in Jesus
• How do we live that revelation

(August 27, 2023) Father Charles Persing encourages us to seek and follow Jesus asking ourselves, "Where is that Jesus wants us to be, and how do we respond to it?"

Rounding out this series on Sharing Your Faith, this episode looks more specifically at those who we should be sharing Christ to.  If we have a sphere of influence (immediate or expanded), we ask ourselves "Do they know Jesus?"  Sometimes that answer presents itself!  But we pray through that and if there is an open door, we take that opportunity to share our faith and to share our testimony.  This process doesn't need to be overcomplicated but it DOES need to happen as we are called and commanded to share our faith and our hope in Christ.  This episode leaves with a challenge:  try it out and see for yourself!  If you have questions or have someone you are praying for/have shared Christ with, I'd love to hear from you.  As always, you can email me at info@derekcharlesjohnson.com  BE BOLD, SHARE JESUS!

This next episode in Sharing Your Faith dives into our own story of faith in Christ.  Namely, who were you before and after meeting Jesus and what happened at the moment you encountered Him?  This is important to know and be able to relay to others.  Your story is uniquely yours.  No one can take it from you and no one can argue against what Christ has done in your life.  It's a time to be and to be honest...someone might be dealing with the same things you were dealing with and need to know there is hope in Jesus!  

John 14:6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life.  No one comes to the Father except through Me.”

Beginning a new series on sharing our faith, today's episode takes a look at Jesus and outlines some of the basic, core truths that we hold about Him.  These truths are something we must cling to as we think about evangelism and telling others about Christ.  This list is by no means exhaustive, but the takeaways today include:  Jesus is the Son of God, He was fully God/fully man, and belief in Him is the only way to have eternal life.  When understand Who Jesus is, we are better equipped to share Him with others and help lead people to trust Him.

Does the Bible have anything to say about finding healing from trauma? It does - we just don't go deep enough. When you encounter Jesus, you encounter the one who the Scriptures say heals our wounds by his wounds...

In The Gospel of John chapter 9, Jesus miraculously heals a man who was born blind, and what unfolds from the encounter is an unearthing of community rejection, religious barriers and trauma. In this strange story of healing, you can see how Jesus is interested in exposing our pain and trauma in order to give us true healing. This is a powerful story and message on hope for our own healing, and it is also a challenge to the church about being a place of safety for those looking for God, rather than a source of pain.

There are times where we question and wonder if keeping our faith is worth it. Is the personal discipline is worth it? Is the toil it takes is worth it? Is the financial sacrifice worth it? Are the results worth it? Is the pursuit of God worth it?

But I am confident that if you are like me in my mistakes and failures, a crying question of my heart is what is God’s response? For those who are followers of Jesus, or who are considering following him, a burning question we wrestle with, yet one we seldom verbalize, is what is Jesus’ response to us when we fail him?   Does Jesus lecture us? Shame us? Condemn us? Abandon us? Jesus’ response may surprise you, even shock you.

Have you ever felt like God messed up? Like you did everything He asked you to do, but things just get worse? Almost as if you held your part, but God dropped the ball?

In recent years, there has been a rise of people who identify as non-religious. People have walked away from, or rejected, any form of faith. And many (former) Christians have left Jesus, the church, and Christianity altogether. But what if it didn't have to be that way? What if you walked away from something Jesus never initiated? Could it be that you ran away from something Jesus would have run away from, too? And could it be that you left something without even realizing that you could’ve kept the one thing that actually mattered?
