Words Really Matter – With Julie Macken

In the first Five Minute Advocate of 2024, Julie Macken emphasises the importance and the effect of language used by the media, by our politicians and the wider community. In a time where the war in Gaza is expanding, the cost of living is still rising and there is a palpable tension in the air; Julie calls for us to demand honest language and think critically about the words our media and government are using fearing that if we don’t, we too will fall through Alice’s looking glass where our reality is totally distorted.

     Words Matter!

Language teaching starts from childhood and develops the definition of what meaning is attached to a particular word.

In this episode, Suzi talks about how words can be developed into a totally different meaning depending on your environment and how you were nurtured by those around you. How we think and feel about ourselves comes from what was told or done to us from childhood.  For example, if you are not treated well as a child and this mistreatment was attached to the word "love" then the definition of that word may be perceived as pain, mistrust or betrayal. Whereas, if the word "love" was attached to joy, kindness and compassion, then the outcome is much different. So words do matter and how they are introduced can make a difference.

Suzi would like to talk more about your story and how words developed the person you are today. What words would you use to describe the person you are today?

Male Expression - Lack of Platforms

Male Expression - Lack of Platforms

The Johnny Depp case has put the spotlight on the serious lack of platforms where men can express themselves and be vulnerable, without being subjected to ridicule.

In his own case, an audiotape shows he was taunted and told that no one will believe him!

Societal and gender expectations have for generations held the message that men are not men if they emotionally express themselves…

    Phrases of,

    Man up!

    Only girls cry!

Are you a man or a mouse?

    Mummies boy

    Big girl’s blouse

Only words they may be, but words carry massive energy, that has the power to change the trajectory of a person’s personality for a lifetime.

Creating a space (platforms) where men feel valued for expressing themselves authentically, is just scratching the surface of addressing what is a humanitarian challenge as we continue to move into the age of Aquarius.

In this episode, we explore some of the challenges and solutions which both sexes can start to act on to instigate positive change.

Liquid Courage AKA Alcohol & Women.

Liquid Courage AKA Alcohol & Women.

The Johnny Depp trial has opened Pandora's box on countless marriage problems…

    Growing Toxicity within modern relationships
Is a series of episodes to dig deep into the reasons why a loving healthy relationship can turn into a toxic hot mess.

This episode focuses on why the modern woman feels the need to use liquid courage AKA alcohol to express her emotional, mental or physical needs.  And how that ultimately takes her further away from having those needs met.

Many women feel oppressed, oppressed by society, expectations, and obligations, which crushes confidence. And alcohol with its mind-altering abilities facilitates a dropping of habitual inhibitions. It gives the Dutch courage to speak up, to vocalize personal truths, the only problem is because of the influence of alcohol, much of what is said is not heard or worse still not taken seriously! Perpetuating the cycle of oppression.

We also examine the partner’s role/behaviour dynamics – as the old phrase states “It takes two to tango!”

Emotionally intelligent conversations between the sexes have always been problematic but in the last three decades, as women push for greater equality, we have seen increased confusion as to who's role is what. That confusion often results in men not providing containment or becoming dominant.

    Hi Guys,

Welcome to All Cards on The table, a new podcast set to launch on 2nd May 2022.

We invite you to subscribe to this new venture aimed at demystifying the language barriers and outdated beliefs that currently exist between men and women, men and men, women and women.

Language is not just about the words we hear, there are many factors that come into play, some widely understood, for example, body language, and tone. Some, are not so well understood or even known!

All cards on the table podcast with Claire Atyeo and Silvia Yajaira offers clear and honest discussions on topics that will take us out of our comfort zones.  Making us uncomfortable so we can push the boundaries of current understanding, and learn to walk in each other's shoes.

    Why?

To break down  centuries old misconceptions. To expand our ability to communicate  clearly and honestly. To gain greater emotional intelligence and bridge the gap between the sexes that currently  exist. Resulting in effective and confident communication within relationships, where each feels heard and validated.

Man needs woman - woman needs man... Humanity needs equilibrium
    no matter sexual preference.
