Tales By Tom - Just Talking to People 003

Today we continue with the series of stories from the pen of Tom Cagley Sr.  The series is titled "Just Talking to People."  In this series Tom Cagley Sr reads eight stories which grow out of conversations with people.  Sometime those people are strangers and sometimes they are inanimate objects personified.  We look forward to your comments and thoughts.

Today we have two stories which are Gifts and He Never Worried.

    Books!

Tom Cagley Sr published a new book titled, Even the Day of My Wedding: A Love Story Born of the Holocaust." This story, a love story, is the story of Meyer Lasker, a 19-year-old Polish Jew, who survived the horrors of the Holocaust. Meyer loses track of his love when she comes to the States. The story tells how they reconnect . . . First love, last chance?

Finding Balance after the election with Sande Hart Kira Corser and Dr. Marissa

Finding Balance after the election with Sande Hart Kira Corser and Dr. Marissa
This episode is for anyone who's Red angry or Blue sad about the election… Finding balance in the aftermath is addressed by 2 guests from organizations who are committed to being the change they want to see. Sande Hart from Compassionate California and Kira Carrillo Corser from Posts for Peace and Justice talk candidly about their own reactions to the election. Kira shares her pain around electing a president after her personal experiences with rape and provides a realistic backdrop to the struggle that comes to the minds and hearts of people adjusting to this new presidency. The relief that some people can find through artistic expression in bringing people together and find a common bond helps… Especially with our youth. Sandy preaches to the choir around all of us being members of the human family and at the same time having to stand strong so that our values around equality, freedom, and against discrimination and bias prevail. Dr. Marissa continues to splatter hope and happiness trying to encourage people not to marinade in sadness or anger as it is not helpful to their Cellular functioning ... and for the sake of our health find a way to have compassion even for the new president balanced by standing firm in what is good. As Cara quotes Dr. Martin Luther King: Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that. Listeners are encouraged to join organizations who are working against racism and violence against women, and transmute their energy to focus on a common vision, which is to make this country about peace and prosperity. Both guests are awarded Dr. Marissa's Beneficial Presence on the Planet Award for their work in creating more love and more peace in the world.

Sex, sexism and FemiNazis - Grouchy Club Podcast 80

Sex, sexism and FemiNazis - Grouchy Club Podcast 80
The “proper sexism” of the mid-1980s and earlier in Northern Working Men’s Clubs remembered by comedy critic Kate Copstick while John Fleming fiddles with his nuts. Copstick reminiscences about her days as a pantomime dame, touring the northern clubs and being pelted with sweets by 2,000 children. There is talk of BBC TV currently ‘desecrating' old sitcoms but not Peter Tinniswood’s “It Takes a Worried Man”. Plus women behind the throne in British TV sitcoms. Sexual social segregation. Sheena Easton’s ex-husband. The powerful women of old-time Music Hall and Vaudeville. And the lost honesty of old-style comedy audiences.

Copstick’s quote of the week: “There is nothing wrong with a single-sex club.”

Kelly's Westport Inn and the Kansas City Baseball Vault Present: Aaron Stilley and Opening Day 2013

Kelly's Westport Inn and the Kansas City Baseball Vault Present: Aaron Stilley and Opening Day 2013
After a long winter, baseball is finally back, and after a week off, we're back talking about the Royals. We gave our first impressions about the first four games of the season and discussed any performances we're worried about yet (stressing that it's only four games so far). We talked about the reactions on social media, both positive and negative, and everyone agreed that there was a lot of overreaction to the Royals first two losses of the year. There's a lot more baseball to go, and it's satisfying to project how things will go, and even more so to be right about it, but there's a point where it cuts into the enjoyment of the game. Then we brought on Aaron Stilley (@Royal_Heritage) who talked about an upcoming talk he's giving at the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum about Jackie Robinson and the Kansas City Monarchs. The event is April 13 at 10:30 am. Aaron can also be found at his blog: http://kcbbh.blogspot.com. We finished off with a wraparound of the Royals minor league affiliates, with some games in progress. Add this after the first sentence of the last paragraph: In the process, we talked about Bubba Starling and how likely it is that he'll pan out or if he'll start looking at other avenues if he struggles this year or down the line. That will be a regular feature of the show from here on.
