    Daoism (Taoism) with Frederick Tsao

Today on “Dawn of an Era of Well-Being: The Podcast” we have a special episode featuring our co-host Frederick Tsao sharing some of his extensive knowledge of the ancient Chinese spiritual tradition of Daoism. With more than 40 years’ experience as an entrepreneur, Fred has worked successfully with business partners and governments in multiple markets across diverse cultures.

A visionary entrepreneur, Fred believes east-west integration is imminent, as the well-being and happiness economy arises. Born in the east and educated in the west, Fred is uniquely positioned to bridge this integration. As Chair of Family Business Network International, Council of Wisdom, Fred promotes family business reform, to rise to this challenge.

Fred has initiated research that has led to the publication of over 30 Chinese books. He has co-authored two English books, including the Dawn of the Era of Well-being with our co-host Ervin Laszlo. In his latest work, One Choice, One World, published in June 2023, he paints a picture of the new world order of narrative economics that serves well-being of life.

Fred also takes a deep interest in the Chinese spiritual tradition of Daoism, of which he has an extensive knowledge, and which profoundly informs him in his daily life and work.

Daoism is an ancient spiritual practice native to China but its origins date back to prehistoric times. It stresses our finding and living in alignment with the DAO which is roughly translated into English as the “Way” or the “Road”. It shares characteristics of both a philosophy and a religion.

Am I In My Quarter Life Crisis? Blank Slates and Starting Over

Am I In My Quarter Life Crisis? Blank Slates and Starting Over

A follow up from the previous episode! Let’s discuss what it’s been like post big chop, breaking my computer and getting a new one, and the transformative energy I’ve been going through lately.

What is the lion’s gate portal? I don’t know! I did go on an astrology tangent in this one too.

When it comes to recentering myself, I think about short term vs long term goals, and habits to maintain vs things that can be checked off a list.

I’m figuring out my creativity and how to approach my creative endeavors. Also navigating going through changes and detaching from the identity of who I “used to be.” Getting comfortable with who I am in the present moment.  Feeling like no one’s like me but everyone is the same, including me. Yin yang!

    The Five Elements 五行

    The Five Elements 五行

The Five Elements. In this episode we discuss the relationship with the elements and humankind, where the five elements came from, and how they are applied and integrated into Chinese life.

In traditional Chinese culture, the five elements, or five phases, theory outlines the relationship between the different elements in nature and the life force, or "qi," that flows through them.

The five elements are wood, fire, earth, metal, and water.

The five Elements theory is an ancient Chinese analogy theory, which combines philosophy, divination, fortune-telling, calendar, traditional Chinese medicine and sociology.

The essence of the Five Elements theory holds that the world is composed of five basic material substances: wood, fire, earth, metal and water. The development and cycle of changes within nature (eg.. seasons ) are the result of the continuous movement and interactions of these five different conditions.

The concept of "five elements" first appeared in Huangdi Neijing, in which the relationship between the five elements and the human body was first proposed.

The regulation of "five elements" was first observed from the movement regulation of the five planets in the Universe. Later, With the observation and study of nature by Chinese ancestors, the relationships between and within the five elements was gradually formed.

In Xunzi, Mencius 孟 子  was the earliest creator of The Five Elements theory.

In the late Zhan Guo (Dynasty) period, Zou Yan 邹 衍 was one of the main people who applied the theory of Yin-yang and the Five Elements to the calculation of national fortunes.

In order to define the five elements, the author SHANG SHU. HONGFAN 尚书.洪范 specifically puts forward the names of the five elements: metal, wood, water, fire and earth

ZUO ZHUAN-Cai Mo 左传 蔡墨 then Proposed the theory that the existence of human life depends on the Five Elements.

The Ancient Chinese holds that the nature of the universe is composed of five elements. The rise and fall of the five elements makes the universe and nature change, which not only affects the fate of people, but also tells people the law between the universe and nature.

    23. Out of the Darkness Light Emerges

    23. Out of the Darkness Light Emerges

She is here! The light has emerged out of the darkness.
All things are held in a state of balance. Picture the Chinese symbol of Yin Yang. Equal parts black and white, which chase one another in a circle infinitely. They coexist. They are intertwined. Not a single thing is exempt from this. There is a dark side to everything light, but there’s also a light side to everything dark. There is always a positive with a negative. We see it in electrical currents.. We see it in the breath, the in flow and out flow as the heart pumps blood throughout our bodies. These energies exist in every single atom with electrons and protons. These atoms make up the entire existence of everything. Nothing is exempt. So why should we be surprised when this constant up and down manifests throughout our lives?

    Alberto Villoldo

    Alberto Villoldo
Well-being and wellness, it should be noted, are not the same. “Well-being” is an aspirational state of life, while “wellness” refers to the interventions humans perform on themselves to improve their health. Our state of living is not always well, and sometimes there is a need for measures that bring us closer to alignment with the universe.

Frederick Tsao from the book Dawn of an Era of Well-Being

In our quest to overcome the challenges that stand in the way of a better future—an era of “well-being” as our program frequently makes reference—we need to consider paths to spiritual betterment which help show us the way. Our guest today is Alberto Villoldo, a trained practitioner of western medicine who has also spent decades studying the shamanic healing practices of the Amazon and Andes. Dr. Villoldo will engage our hosts with a penetrating conversation investigating how shamanic traditions of South America can inform the western thought process. At the nexus of science and spirituality lies the key to our evolution as a species, and the basis of a healing process that will make true well-being accessible. This discussion delves into the evolution of the human brain and its chemistry, and how the shamanic tradition can help reinforce our connection to both nature and a higher level of consciousness.

Alberto Villoldo, PhD, is a medical anthropologist and best-selling author who has studied the shamanic healing practices of the Amazon and Andes for over 30 years. He is the founder of the Four Winds Society, and his recent books include The Heart of the Shaman: Stories and Practices of the Luminous Warrior and The Wisdom Wheel: A Mythic Journey through the Four Directions

    Yin Yang part 3

    Yin Yang part 3

In this episode of Pen to Sword we continue the conversation around Daoism speaking with Mr Carl Lin and Dr Sophie Liu live from China.

This is part three of a three part discussion into Yin Yang.  In this episode we explore the link between Yin Yang and the impact into health.  Covering how the principles of Yin Yang manifest in the body, health, and medicine.

We begin by discussing how Yin Yang balance directly relates to health, and how organs and general anatomy each will have either Yin or Yang properties.  These properties across the body must be in balance for good physical and mental health.

We go on to discuss which organs act in pairs and how they balance with each other.  Dr. Liu explains how Chinese medicine is developed from Daoism.  We also discuss in detail a case in which Dr. Liu's master was able to cure an autistic child.
