359: How Mignon Francois Flipped Her Last $5 And Built A Cupcake Empire From The Ground Up

The Cupcake Collection founder Mignon Francois shares how taking a chance and flipping her last $5 turned into an empire with over five million cupcakes sold to date.

"I realized I could be sick and tired but I couldn't be both," said Mignon Francois - speaker, entrepreneur, community leader and founder of The Cupcake Collection. On this episode, Mignon dives into how she was able to get out of debt and brokenness - by founding The Cupcake Collection in 2008, on the last $5 she had to feed her family. That determination and will turned into an empire with over five million cupcakes sold to date. Mignon shares the details of the beginning days of running the business and some of the mental hurdles she had to overcome in order to truly soar along her #dreamdriving journey. She gives advice for other dream drivers who may feel like the dream has "passed them" or that "it's too late" and why being willing to let your gifts shine is the best thing you can do for your chance of future success.

306: Overcoming the Odds by Becoming a Creator with Dia Soto

    Content warning: Domestic violence

What is something I can change right now? This is a question that Barrio Logan  artist, mother and caregiver Dia Soto has often asked herself to feel a sense of control while facing challenging situations such as childhood immigration, loss, homelessness, domestic violence, and starting a family as a teen. In this episode, Rachelle's former student shares how she experienced safety, belonging and empowerment in a range of community-based supports, and is now flourishing thanks to her own "rule breaking" spirit.   Listen for Dia’s profound wisdom around receiving help, paying it forward, and healing through art.

    30. Grief: It's NOT Personal | Monique Turner

    30. Grief: It's NOT Personal | Monique Turner

Early in her journey, Monique experienced some of life’s hardest struggles, the death of both her mother and father, her grandmother, and great-grandmother, who were her biggest supporters, and her aunt who became her guardian, all before the age of 23. This domino of tragedies left her unprotected on the streets of San Francisco, California, learning to defend herself. By 25, she would later find herself facing a five-year Federal prison sentence, forcing her to leave her 7-year old son behind. Yet, she now helps thousands with her motto 'life is not personal, it's purpose'.
