”Children have challenging behaviors all the time,  even if you’re not dealing with neurodivergence or ADHD. There are things that set us off as parents, and it goes back to how we view the situation.”

”As moms, everyone is so hard on ourselves. We are constantly berating ourselves.”

”All these things we say to ourselves, we would not accept anyone else saying to us.”

”This constant flow of insults really affects our mood and really brings us down, so the first thing I would suggest is to start looking to see, ‘What am I saying to myself?’”

”If we give ourselves that self-compassion…that is such a big help against that guilt that we feel every day.”

”A lot of the guilt also comes from trying to do it all.”

”We have issues asking for help…so much so that we would rather do it ourselves than ask for the help when doing it.”

”If you have another adult in the home in addition to yourself, there is no reason you should be doing all the work.”

”It’s never going to fix the situation if you don’t let people experience the natural consequences.”

”Am I going to be resentful and angry if I do this right now? If the answer is yes, then I don’t do it, and I let natural consequences take its course.”

”Guilt never goes away; you just get better at handling it.”

”I strongly recommend that you practice before you go…what you need to say to keep your family safe.”

”I really want to encourage folks not to be apologetic and afraid to speak up. We’re so afraid of being a hassle, being a bother. But many people who work in the food industry…they love to make their guests happy…So give them the opportunity.”

”You go from overwhelmed, ‘I can’t possibly do it. It’s too hard,' to ‘I can do it, and I feel better.’ It’s so worth it!”

”It’s not the vacation you used to have….There’s still a lot of mental load involved in planning.”

”When we’re in a chronic stress environment, our window of tolerance gets smaller and smaller.”

”No one supplement is going to be the game changer.”

James Barry is a culinary expert with over 16 years of experience and has cooked for some of the biggest names in Hollywood like Tom Cruise, George Clooney, Jared Butler, Sean Puffy Combs, Barbara Streisand, and John Cusack. James has ventured into the world of functional foods with his groundbreaking product, Pluck. It's an organ-based seasoning designed to make it easier for people to incorporate organ meats into their diet.

Why are organ meats so beneficial for us? These nutrient dense foods have been vastly overlooked, but they hold amazing potential, especially for improving brain health and managing ADHD symptoms.

Discover the science behind the nutrients in organ meats, and learn practical ways to include them in your child’s diet.

[29:30] Step 3 of Easing Organ Meats into the Diet

[31:35] How Organ Meats Change the Palate

[36:40] Where to find James online

    Memorable Moments:

“Many of us in the field call them [organ meats] Mother Nature’s multivitamin.”

”Everything that science tells us we need in a prenatal…that’s in organ meats.”

”When people start to re-introduce organ meats…we find that we don’t need to take as many supplements.”

”We are a nutrient-deficient society…But we are not calorie deficient…People associate nutrient deficiency with, ‘I’m not eating enough food.' Well, it’s not that at all. It’s that we’re eating the wrong foods.”

”What is the source of where we are getting these nutrients? And in some cases, when you are swallowing these nutrients, you are getting them in synthetic forms.”

”What I love about getting your nutrients from food is that it’s already…in the form that is most bioavailable.”

”Eating your nutrition versus swallowing..and this is really, really key…one is working with your body. The other is complete guesswork.”

”The B vitamins support every biological function in the body.”

”More times than not, it’s [anxiety] actually a nutrient deficiency, and a lot of times it’s tied to B vitamins.”

”When we talk about organ meat, we’re not saying just pick one. We’re talking, really focus on that whole animal.”

”Start with Pluck…Pluck is an ancestral superfood powder. It’s got freeze dried powdered liver, heart, kidney, spleen, and pancreas.”

”You can add it to anything, and it will make the food taste better.”

91: Frequently Asked Questions about Natural Remedies for ADHD with Andrea Daigle

91: Frequently Asked Questions about Natural Remedies for ADHD with Andrea Daigle

This week, we are going to delve into some of the most burning questions surrounding reducing ADHD symptoms naturally.

Joining this episode is Andrea Daigle, board certified holistic health and nutrition practitioner and one of our remarkable expert coaches at the ADHD Thrive Institute and a regular on this podcast.

In this episode, we explore some of the most commonly asked burning questions surrounding detox strategies, dietary changes, sleep patterns, technology's impact, and so much more.

    Key Takeaways:

[2:49] The best detoxing modalities for kids: detox baths, jumping on a trampoline, rebounding, sweating, sauna, lemon water, and milk thistle

[14:37] What to do if you’ve changed the diet and are not seeing progress

[19:48] Are the dietary changes we recommend (cutting out gluten, dairy, soy) permanent?

[29:06] How much technology is too much? Why does my child's behavior become worse after watching technology?

[35:20] Potential reasons your ADHD child might struggle with sleep

    Memorable Moments:

”A detox bath - #1 - that is something super easy and gentle to do that you can do 2-3 times a week.”

”You want to start low and slow, build your way up…I usually find starting with 1 cup of baking soda, 1 cup of magnesium flakes, and you can work your way up depending on how much they weigh.”

”Ideally the recommendation is 1 minute per age, and so if they are 5 years old, then 5 minutes in the sauna with that temperature nice and low.”

”If you’re somebody who is really solid on diet and you’ve been gluten, dairy, and soy free for 6 months - 8 months - and you’ve given it the good amount of time that healing takes, and you’re still not where you need to go, then that tells us we need to look deeper. We need to look deeper at what else is causing that inflammation.”

”We want to get a really good snapshot of what’s happening in the body…because in order for you to see what’s really going on and for you to move the needle, we need to have some answers as to what’s happening in the body, so the testing will allow us to do that for you.”

”If you think about this bigger picture, when you go through a healing process and your children and your family are doing so much better and you’re feeling good, we just don’t ever want to see you go backward. Let’s just keep moving forward, and keep that inflammation down as much as possible.”

”Technology… is created  to be addicting, and it is created to be over-stimulating, and that’s a lot for a little brain to handle.“

”Sleep is so important. That’s when we’re growing, that’s when we’re detoxing, that’s when we’re shifting and our minds and our brains are getting bigger, so it’s super important that sleep is well-balanced.”

    Memorable Moments:

“I view ADHD as a type of superpower. The things I experienced in my life, I didn’t see them as negative. I saw them as positive.”

”When you call something a disorder, you’re saying something is broken. I didn’t feel disordered.”

”There actually is a way to transform the negative things that have happened into something positive.”

”A lot of the symptoms [of trauma and ADHD] overlap.”

”People who have PTSD are far more likely to also be diagnosed with ADHD.”

”Trauma is never the thing that happened. It’s the way that our bodies responded to the things that happened.=

”One of the central things for something to turn into trauma is the ability or the inability to take action.”

”It’s not the event. It’s the response of the body.”

    ”Trauma is a solvable problem.”

”We tend to believe that some emotions are good and others are bad…The moment you say, ‘No, anger is bad,’ you are teaching them that they don’t actually have agency….that their reaction to an unjust event is itself unjust. And that is incorrect.”

”Giving room for those emotions to be expressed in a healthy way can go a long way.”
