    • Sharing your home on Airbnb and the importance of adventure and explorationTransforming your home into an Airbnb brings extra income and a chance to welcome travelers. Adventure, exploration, and respect for diverse cultures are key themes.

Turning your home into an Airbnb not only brings in extra income but also allows you to share your world with travelers. Jen and Jordan shared their experiences of using Airbnb during their travels and how they incorporated that warm, welcoming feeling into their own home for guests. Forrest Galante, on the other hand, shared stories of his dangerous expeditions to find rare and extinct animals, highlighting the importance of respecting local cultures and traditions. Jordan also shared his experience of participating in a survival show, "Naked and Afraid," and how it led him back to his career as a biologist. Throughout the episode, the importance of adventure, exploration, and respect for different cultures and traditions emerged as key themes. Moreover, the episode emphasized the value of having a diverse range of experiences and knowledge, as each guest brought unique insights and stories to the table. Overall, the conversation with Forrest Galante offered a glimpse into the thrilling world of wildlife exploration while also providing practical advice on making guests feel welcome in your home.

    • An Unusual Cleansing Experience with a ShamanThe speaker's encounter with a shaman in the Amazon jungle for spiritual cleansing contrasted his views on drug tourism, emphasizing respect for indigenous traditions.

The speaker had an unusual experience with a shaman in the Amazon jungle, involving the use of a natural drug in a ceremonial context. The drug, administered via a unique pipe made from a snail shell, monkey bone, and beeswax, was intended to cleanse the speaker of "evil spirits" before embarking on a dangerous journey. Despite the speaker's initial nervousness and skepticism, the experience left him feeling cleansed and protected. The speaker contrasted this experience with what he saw as the trend of "drug tourism," where people travel to foreign countries to experiment with mind-altering substances as a form of self-exploration or spiritual enlightenment. The speaker expressed reservations about this phenomenon, viewing it as disrespectful to the cultures and traditions from which these practices originate. Instead, he saw the experience as a necessary and meaningful part of the dangerous expedition he was undertaking.

    • Seeking meaning in life through unconventional experiences vs. meaningful actionsEarly adulthood can bring existential questions, but unconventional experiences may not provide lasting fulfillment. Instead, consider taking meaningful actions to make a difference in the world.

People in their early thirties often question the purpose and meaning of their lives, leading some to seek out unconventional experiences like using Ayahuasca. However, the speaker argues that such experiences can be hollow and superficial, and instead encourages meaningful actions like volunteering or making a difference in the world. Another topic that emerged in the conversation was the speaker's upbringing in Zimbabwe, where they grew up on a large farm with hundreds of workers, but felt the need to hide their accent and assimilate to American culture as a teenager. The speaker regrets this decision and wishes they had embraced their heritage instead. Overall, the conversation touched on themes of self-discovery, identity, and the importance of authentic experiences.

    • Growing up as a 'feral child' in Zimbabwe's dangerous bushThe speaker's adventurous childhood in Zimbabwe, filled with danger from wildlife and land reform, instilled a deep appreciation for nature and the food chain.

The speaker grew up as a "feral child" on a farm in Zimbabwe, where they lived a very adventurous and dangerous life compared to what is considered normal in urban areas. They hunted, fished, and explored the bush, often putting themselves in harm's way. Africa, according to the speaker, is much more dangerous than places like Australia, with a wider variety of animals that can harm humans. The speaker also mentioned the Zimbabwe land reform, which resulted in the violent seizure of land from white farmers, leading to the deaths of many, including their neighbors. Despite the dangers and hardships, the speaker misses the connection to nature and the food chain that comes with living in such an environment.

    • Zimbabwe's Land Reform Crisis: Power and ViolenceDuring the early 2000s, Zimbabwe's land reform process led to widespread violence and chaos, resulting in the displacement and suffering of millions, and the deaths or forced exile of many farmers, as ZANU, Mugabe's political party, used violence and intimidation to maintain power.

During the early 2000s in Zimbabwe, President Robert Mugabe, in an attempt to maintain power and control, initiated a land reform process that led to widespread violence and chaos. White farmers, many of whom had lived in Zimbabwe for generations, were accused of taking resources from local people and were targeted for land seizure. This resulted in the empowerment of young, urban militias who used violence and intimidation to take land, often indiscriminately. Farmers, both black and white, who resisted were met with torture and violence. The situation was not about race but about power, with ZANU, Mugabe's political party, controlling the military and thus having the upper hand. The result was the displacement and suffering of millions of local people, and the deaths or forced exile of many farmers.

    • Zimbabwe's Economic Collapse and InstabilityOnce an idyllic place, Zimbabwe now faces high inflation, collapsed economy, and instability, leading to mass emigration and a focus on safaris for tourists.

Zimbabwe, once an idyllic place for the speaker to grow up with wild animals, tons of space, and freedom, has undergone significant changes since the early 2000s. The agricultural industry has been wiped out, leaving the rural areas in ruins, and the economy has collapsed, leading to hyperinflation and the need for bartering and services for goods. The speaker emphasizes that things have improved since then, but the instability remains a major issue. The speaker and his family fled the country as political refugees and ended up in Oakland, California. Zimbabwe is now known for its high inflation rates and collapsed economy, with the highest note being a $1,000,000,000,000 note. Visitors are encouraged to bring fresh currency and experience the phenomenal safari while hoping for regime change and stabilization.

    • From refugees to Oakland, Forrest's family journeyLife's unexpected challenges can lead to growth and new opportunities, even with hardships.

Life can throw unexpected challenges, and these challenges can lead to significant life changes. Forrest Galante shared his personal story of fleeing from Zimbabwe as political refugees with his family, ending up in a one-bedroom government facility in Oakland, California, with only $200 and three suitcases. The stress of the situation led Forrest's mother to have a pulmonary embolism, leaving the family to sleep on the hospital floor for the first few weeks. Despite the difficulties, Forrest and his sister found some excitement in the new experiences, having never seen a hospital or urban life before. This experience taught them that even in the most challenging circumstances, there can be moments of wonder and discovery. It's essential to remember that life's twists and turns can lead to growth and new opportunities, even if they come with hardships.

    • From refugee to wildlife expert: Overcoming challenges with determinationDetermination and resilience can help you turn life's challenges into opportunities for growth and success. Follow your passions and seize opportunities, even in small ways, to achieve your dreams.

No matter what challenges life throws at you, with determination and resilience, you can turn things around and make something positive out of it. Forrest Galante shared his personal story of moving from Africa to the US as a refugee and single parent, facing health crises and living in rough neighborhoods. Despite these hardships, he managed to survive and pursue his passion for wildlife and animals, eventually leading him to a successful career. The speaker emphasized that his free online course, which many guests on his show have subscribed to, is not awkward or embarrassing, but rather makes you a better person in small daily increments. It's a valuable opportunity to learn and grow in smart company. Forrest's journey from counting ants to becoming a wildlife expert demonstrates the importance of following your passions and seizing opportunities, even when they seem small or insignificant at first. He encourages everyone to keep pushing forward and never give up on their dreams.

    • Embracing new experiences and finding joy in the outdoorsDiscovering joy in unconventional ways, like outdoor adventures or reality TV shows, can lead to personal growth and happiness. Embrace new experiences and don't let backgrounds or labels define you.

Finding happiness and fulfillment often comes from doing what we love and being outdoors, even if it means stepping out of our comfort zones and challenging ourselves. The speaker shares his experiences growing up in Africa as a white Jewish English boy, feeling like an outsider, and finding joy in the simple things like counting ants at a research station instead of numbers at a brokerage. He also talks about discovering the reality TV show "Naked and Afraid" and unexpectedly getting cast on it as a way to take a break from his usual work. The speaker's story highlights the importance of embracing new experiences and not being defined by our backgrounds or labels. It's about being true to ourselves and finding happiness in the things that bring us joy, no matter how unconventional they may seem. And sometimes, even trashy reality TV shows can lead to unexpected adventures!

    • Embracing new experiences can lead to unexpected opportunitiesStepping out of comfort zone and embracing new experiences can lead to unforeseen opportunities and personal growth

Sometimes, stepping out of one's comfort zone and embracing new experiences, even if they seem unconventional or unfruitful at first, can lead to unexpected opportunities and success. Forrest Galante, a wildlife survival instructor, felt undervalued in his scientific work and disheartened by the massive audience reach of his appearance on the reality show "Naked and Afraid." However, he saw this as an opportunity to make a bigger impact on wildlife conservation through television. Despite initial misgivings and misunderstandings with producers, Galante's positive attitude and resourcefulness on the show resonated with viewers. This experience led him to pursue a career in wildlife communication and education through media. Not everyone can parlay a reality TV appearance into a successful career, but Galante's story shows that embracing new experiences, even when they don't align with our initial plans or expectations, can lead to unforeseen opportunities and growth.

    • The power of determination and resilienceDetermination and resilience are crucial for achieving goals, even when faced with adversity and doubt. Persisting through rejections and skepticism can lead to unexpected success.

Success often comes after a long period of hard work and rejection. The speaker's experience of trying to make it in the television industry after appearing on a reality show took three years of grinding and receiving numerous rejections. Similarly, in his work as a wildlife detective, he persisted in searching for animals that were presumed extinct despite skepticism from the scientific community. The lesson here is that determination and resilience are essential for achieving goals, even when faced with adversity and doubt. The speaker's success in discovering extinct animals and hosting a TV show demonstrates the importance of staying focused and persistent in the face of challenges.

    • The success of Extinct or Alive was due to the host's unique skills and team's determination, despite dangerous conditions and long journeys. The host's background as a tracker, wildlife biologist, and survivalist, along with the team's determination, led to the success of Extinct or Alive, even in dangerous conditions and remote locations.

The success of the Extinct or Alive show was a result of the host's unique background and skill sets, including his experience as a tracker, wildlife biologist, and survival skills, as well as his ability to connect with local people. The show's success also came from the team's determination and willingness to endure dangerous conditions and long journeys to remote locations, often without modern communication or medical resources. Despite the risks, the team faced numerous challenges, including sickness, injuries, and encounters with venomous snakes and other dangerous animals. However, they were prepared with a medic and a new device called the inReach, which allowed them to send messages for help when needed. The host's perspective is that the modern focus on safety and communication is a recent construct, and that in human history, people simply went into the wild and did their jobs without the same level of backup and resources. Despite the risks, the team's experiences were part of the job and they were prepared to face whatever came their way.

    • Passion and determination lead to great accomplishmentsInvesting in passions and taking risks can inspire us to overcome obstacles and achieve great things.

Passion and determination can lead to great accomplishments, even when faced with obstacles. Forrest Galante's crew, who started as a group of young men with diverse backgrounds and a shared love for wildlife, have become accomplished professionals in their field. They've faced dangerous situations, like smuggling drones into Myanmar, and have come out on top. The importance of following one's passions and being willing to take risks was a recurring theme in their journey. The Lexus GX, with its advanced technology and luxurious interior, is an exceptional example of something that inspires us to do exceptional things. The crew's experiences demonstrate that when we invest in exceptional things, we are motivated to push ourselves to new heights.

    • Staying focused, calm, and resourceful can lead to positive outcomesIn dangerous situations, maintaining focus, calmness, and resourcefulness can result in successful outcomes. Be prepared for unexpected circumstances and respect the power of nature.

Even in the most dangerous and seemingly hopeless situations, staying focused, calm, and resourceful can lead to a positive outcome. The speaker's experience of being accused of using drones in Myanmar and the subsequent release of their fixer, despite being arrested, illustrates this point. Additionally, the story of the Ramree Island Massacre during World War 2 highlights the importance of being prepared for unexpected circumstances and the consequences of disrupting an ecosystem. The soldiers' lack of food for two years led the crocodiles to enter a state of torpor, and when they were disturbed during the invasion, they attacked and killed over a thousand soldiers. These historical events serve as reminders of the power of nature and the importance of being aware of one's surroundings.

    • Lesson learned from encountering crocodilesBeing complacent about safety in dangerous environments can have severe consequences. Always be aware and respect potential risks.

Being complacent about safety in dangerous environments can have severe consequences. The team's experience in the swamp with the saltwater crocodiles served as a harsh reminder of this lesson. Despite encountering only a few crocodiles, they were being careless and disregarding potential risks. However, when a local boy was attacked and nearly lost his life, the team realized the importance of being vigilant and respecting the potential dangers of their surroundings. The incident was a wake-up call, and they immediately took steps to ensure their safety. It's crucial to remember that even in seemingly safe situations, danger can lurk, and it's essential to be aware and respect the potential risks.

    • Catching a Dangerous Crocodile in MyanmarLocals respected a notorious crocodile, contrasting the speaker's past experiences with wildlife in Africa where killing was common. Hippos and Cape buffalo are the scariest animals for the speaker.

During the production of a History Channel show called "Face the Beast," the team successfully caught a notorious crocodile named White Nose, believed to be responsible for several deaths during World War 2 and the Rammery Island massacre. Despite the crocodile's dangerous reputation, the local Myanmar people did not want to harm it, showing a deep reverence for the animal and its place in the ecosystem. This experience contrasted the speaker's previous encounters with wildlife in Africa, where killing crocodiles was more common. The speaker emphasized that hippos, despite their reputation, are not aggressive animals but rather nervous and dangerous when startled. Hippos and Cape buffalo are the scariest animals the speaker has encountered, with hippos being capable of running at 19 miles per hour on land.

    • Surviving Encounter with Hippos and RhinosBe cautious around hippos and rhinos, they're more aggressive than they look. Avoid getting too close and find cover quickly when encountering hippos. Rhinos charge when startled or cornered. Respect all animals for their unique characteristics and ensure safety.

Hippos, despite their seemingly gentle and blubbery appearance, are actually powerful and aggressive animals. They live in environments with large crocodiles and must be able to defend themselves and their young to survive. When encountering a hippo, the best strategy is to avoid getting too close and, if necessary, find cover quickly. Unlike some other animals, there's no "standing your ground" with a hippo. Rhinos, on the other hand, have poor eyesight and a strong sense of smell, and they will charge when startled or cornered. While a mosquito may not seem dangerous, it is actually responsible for millions of deaths throughout history. Overall, it's important to respect all animals and maintain a safe distance to ensure everyone's safety.

    • Preventable Dangers: Mosquito-Borne DiseasesMosquito-borne diseases like malaria cause over 700,000 to 800,000 deaths annually, making them a greater danger to human life than encounters with dangerous animals. Simple measures like wearing long sleeves and using mosquito nets can help prevent these diseases.

While the fear of encounters with dangerous animals like sharks or hippos is common, the real threat to human life comes from more common and preventable causes, such as mosquito-borne diseases like malaria. Malaria is responsible for the deaths of 700,000 to 800,000 people per year, making it a much greater danger than encounters with sharks or hippos. Furthermore, simple measures like wearing long sleeves and using mosquito nets can help prevent malaria, making it a more avoidable danger compared to encounters with animals. The importance of taking preventative measures against mosquito-borne diseases cannot be overstated, as they pose a much greater threat to human life than encounters with dangerous animals.

993: Johann Hari | The Skinny on 'Magic Pill' Weight-Loss Drugs

Are new weight loss drugs like Ozempic and Wegovy "magic" pills that can put an end to the obesity epidemic? Johann Hari is here to give us the skinny!

What We Discuss with Johann Hari:

    • Processed and ultra-processed foods are a major driver of the obesity epidemic, as they undermine the body's natural ability to feel full and satisfied after eating. Moving from fresh, whole foods to mostly processed foods is strongly linked to the dramatic rise in obesity rates.
    • Obesity is a complex issue with biological, psychological, and social causes. Factors like genetics, emotional eating, trauma, and the food environment all play a role. Stigmatizing or shaming people for their weight is cruel and counterproductive.
    • New weight loss drugs like Ozempic and Wegovy work by artificially boosting satiety hormones like GLP-1, helping people feel full faster and eat less. They are showing impressive weight loss results, but also come with potential risks and side effects that are not yet fully understood, especially in the long-term.
    • While these new drugs may help many people, they are not a magic solution. They don't address the underlying drivers of the obesity crisis in the food system and environment. To make a real difference, we need broader changes to make healthy eating the easy, default option.
    • The good news is, each of us can take positive steps today to improve our health, no matter our current weight. Focus on adding more whole, minimally processed foods to your diet, and find physical activities you truly enjoy. Prioritize getting good sleep, managing stress, and building a strong social support network. Small, sustainable lifestyle changes can make a big difference over time. Be patient and kind with yourself in the process. You have the power to transform your health, one choice at a time.
    • And much more...

    992: Royals | Skeptical Sunday

What's the point of the publicly funded British Royal family in the modern world? Andrew Gold puts the monarchy under a microscope on this Skeptical Sunday!

    On This Week's Skeptical Sunday:

    • The British monarchy is a centuries-old institution that has had a significant impact on the UK's culture, politics, and history. While the monarch's role is largely ceremonial, the royal family still holds influence and plays a significant part in British society.
    • The British Royal Family receives public funding through the Sovereign Grant, which is calculated as a percentage of the profits made by the Crown Estate. The Sovereign Grant covers official expenses, while the monarch also has personal income from private estates.
    • The monarchy faces challenges in maintaining its relevance in an increasingly democratic and progressive world. The royal family must balance tradition with adapting to changing societal values and expectations.
    • The popularity of individual members of the royal family, such as Queen Elizabeth II, Prince Charles, Prince William, and Prince Harry, can significantly impact public perception of the monarchy as a whole.
    • Despite the controversies and challenges surrounding the British monarchy, it remains an integral part of the nation's identity and continues to captivate people worldwide. By focusing on their roles as symbols of unity, continuity, and tradition, while also embracing positive change and engaging in meaningful charitable work, the royal family can maintain its relevance and contribute to the well-being of the British people and the global community.

990: Jonathan Haidt | How Gen Z Became the Anxious Generation

990: Jonathan Haidt | How Gen Z Became the Anxious Generation

Jonathan Haidt is here to talk about his latest book, The Anxious Generation: How the Great Rewiring of Childhood Is Causing an Epidemic of Mental Illness.

What We Discuss with Jonathan Haidt:

    • Social media and smartphones have drastically altered childhood since the early 2010s, leading to increased rates of anxiety, depression, self-harm, and suicide among teens, especially girls.
    • Virtual interactions on social media are disembodied, shallow, and can spread mental health issues among susceptible teens. Prestige biased learning causes teens to emulate influencers, even those promoting unhealthy behaviors. Smartphones and social media also enable sexual predators to easily target children online.
    • Overprotection in the real world and underprotection online are both mistakes that need to be reversed. Parents have allowed kids too much unsupervised screen time while restricting their independence and free play in the physical world out of exaggerated fears.
    • Schools and parents need to set clear boundaries around technology use. No smartphones before high school, no social media until age 16, and phone-free schools from bell to bell are key norms to establish. The longer parents delay introducing these technologies, the better.
    • Although the situation is serious, positive change is possible when parents, educators, and lawmakers work together. Parents can start by giving kids more independence and free play time offline, schools can go phone-free, and governments can pass laws to make online spaces safer for kids. With collective action, we can restore a healthier childhood for the next generation. Small steps like "Free Play Fridays" for neighborhood kids can make a difference right away. By coming together to solve this, we can ensure today's youth have the space to develop into competent, well-adjusted adults.

What We Discuss with Robert Mazur:

    • How Robert, working undercover for US Customs and the DEA, posed as a money launderer to infiltrate Pablo Escobar's Medellin cartel and other criminal organizations.
    • Money laundering enables cartels to produce their most lethal product: corruption. Corrupt officials and governments facilitate drug trafficking operations.
    • Money laundering methods are highly sophisticated, involving legitimate businesses, secret codes, and multi-national operations to evade detection.
    • Banks and the global financial system need to change to combat money laundering effectively, with severe penalties for those involved in facilitating the flow of illicit funds.
    • Despite the risks and close calls, Robert continued his undercover work to gather intelligence and evidence against drug cartels until it became clear that the price his family was paying was not worth continuing.

Ex-federal agent Robert Mazur shares his experiences working undercover to infiltrate drug cartels, offering insights into the challenges involved. Pt 1/2.

What We Discuss with Robert Mazur:

    • How Robert, working undercover for US Customs and the DEA, posed as a money launderer to infiltrate Pablo Escobar's Medellin cartel and other criminal organizations.
    • The extensive planning that goes into an undercover operation, including developing a detailed backstory, establishing fake businesses, and coordinating with informants and other agents.
    • How Robert built rapport with targets by researching their interests, using active listening, and offering them gifts to gain their trust.
    • Undercover agents must be laser-focused on their targets and avoid thinking about their personal lives, as any slip-up could compromise the operation and endanger their safety.
    • During trials, these agents must be prepared for defense attorneys' tactics, such as role reversal, and maintain their composure to avoid compromising the case or their credibility in front of the jury.

    • High-speed internet porn is a recent phenomenon that provides an intense, novel experience unlike traditional pornography, hacking into our brain's evolutionary desires for new mates and triggering dopamine responses similar to drug addiction.
    • Pornography use, especially among adolescents and young adults who grew up with easy access to internet porn, has been linked to erosion of gray matter in the brain's prefrontal cortex, which controls impulse control and decision-making.
    • Porn use has been associated with sexual disorders like erectile dysfunction in young men, as well as difficulties forming emotional bonds and intimacy in relationships.
    • While some psychologists dispute the existence of "porn addiction," neuroscientific evidence shows porn use can lead to compulsive behaviors and brain changes resembling substance addictions.
    • While some political efforts have been made to declare porn a public health crisis, there is little policy action based on scientific evidence to provide resources for treatment and awareness.

984: Susan Casey | Unraveling Mysteries in the Ocean's Darkest Depths

984: Susan Casey | Unraveling Mysteries in the Ocean's Darkest Depths

What challenges can the ocean help us meet, and what must we do to safeguard its treasures? The Underworld author Susan Casey dives deep for answers here!

What We Discuss with Susan Casey:

    • The ocean plays a crucial role in regulating the Earth's climate and serves as the largest carbon sink on the planet, making its preservation essential for mitigating climate change.
    • The ocean is home to a fascinating array of creatures that have adapted to extreme conditions, such as iron-breathing microbes, glass sponges, and jellyfish that can reverse their life cycle.
    • Pollution, including plastics, chemical weapons, and nuclear waste, has severely impacted the ocean ecosystem, with some deep-sea creatures found to have plastic particles embedded in their organs.
    • There are an estimated three million shipwrecks on the ocean floor, preserving valuable historical artifacts and information — such as the Antikythera mechanism, an ancient Greek analog computer.
    • Exploring the ocean can lead to groundbreaking discoveries in medicine, Earth's history, and climate, providing valuable insights for addressing humanity's challenges — provided we safeguard this treasury of knowledge for current and future generations.
    • And much more...

898: Forrest Galante | Seeking Unicorns and Resurrecting the Dodo

Wildlife biologist Forrest Galante rejoins us to discuss rediscovering "lost" species and why we should resurrect the dodo, thylacine, and woolly mammoth.

What We Discuss with Forrest Galante:

    • What's Forrest been up to since his last visit to this show? Just milking venomous sea snakes and trying to find out why orcas are slaughtering great white sharks en masse.
    • Where are the world's biggest snakes found, and do they ever eat people?
    • What did Forrest find inside the world's largest cave — besides a variety of isolated ecosystems with their own weather systems?
    • Why following leads for unknown or thought-to-be-extinct species isn't tinfoil hat territory — and the clever ways Forrest and his team track them.
    • How likely is it that science will be used to resurrect extinct species like the woolly mammoth, dodo bird, and thylacine in the near future — and how does this ambitious goal fit into the conservation of existing ecosystems?

256: Malcolm Gladwell | What We Should Know about Talking to Strangers

256: Malcolm Gladwell | What We Should Know about Talking to Strangers

Malcolm Gladwell (@gladwell) has written bestsellers that are probably on your shelf right now, including The Tipping Point, Blink, Outliers, and What the Dog Saw. His latest book is Talking to Strangers: What We Should Know about the People We Don't Know.

What We Discuss with Malcolm Gladwell:

    • Why, if we don't know how to talk to strangers, we invite conflict and misunderstanding in ways that have a profound effect on our lives and our world.
    • Why the information we gather from face-to-face human interaction isn't as uniquely valuable as we think it is.
    • Why television makes us worse at reading other people.
    • Why we think we can tell if someone is lying, guilty, or deceptive -- and why we're almost always wrong.
    • What determines the direction of Malcolm's projects, and how he researches and organizes the massive amount of information that goes into them.

365: Benjamin Hardy | How to Break Free from Self-Limiting Beliefs

365: Benjamin Hardy | How to Break Free from Self-Limiting Beliefs

Benjamin Hardy (@BenjaminPHardy) is an organizational psychologist and author of Willpower Doesn't Work: Discover the Hidden Keys to Success and Personality Isn't Permanent: Break Free from Self-Limiting Beliefs and Rewrite Your Story.

What We Discuss with Benjamin Hardy:

    • Why treating the results of a "scientific" personality test like Myers & Briggs or Enneagram as gospel is akin to trusting horoscopes to safely guide your life decisions -- inaccurate and potentially dangerous.
    • Hear the story about how Benjamin and his wife almost didn't get married because a personality test indicated they weren't an ideal match.
    • What looking back at the person you were 10 or 20 years ago should reveal about personality as an unfixed, malleable quality.
    • Why categorizing yourself or accepting labels leads to a tunnel vision of mindlessness that tends to accentuate the negative qualities you believe yourself to have.
    • You're always a work in progress -- you're never "finished." The person you'll be in 10 years may well be as different as you are from the person you were 10 years ago. So who do you want the future you to be?

    • In spite of having a dream job and a significant other who checks most of your boxes, current circumstances make imagining a future in your native Russia difficult. Unfortunately, this significant other comes from a conservative family and doesn't understand why you'd ever want to move abroad. Are your differences too radical to build a life together?
