    • The Story of Watohak: Determination and Natural Ability Lead to Great SuccessWatohak, a new student with no football experience or proper attire, shocked everyone with his athletic abilities and went on to excel in multiple sports, setting records and winning championships.

Determination and natural ability can lead to great success, no matter the circumstances or environment. Watohak, a new student at the Carlisle Indian School, surprised everyone with his athletic abilities, especially in football. Despite being dressed differently and having no prior experience, he effortlessly jumped over the high bar, catching the attention of Coach Pop Warner. With no football experience, Coach Warner introduced Watohak to the game and taught him the basics. Watohak quickly excelled, running through opponents like a human battering ram, scoring a record-breaking 25 touchdowns that season, and becoming the first collegiate to rush for over 2,000 yards. Coach Warner encouraged Watohak to try other sports, and he went on to distinguish himself in track and field, lacrosse, boxing, tennis, wrestling, and baseball. Even in ballroom dancing, he won the intercollegiate competition. Watohak's exceptional abilities earned him a tryout for the US Olympic team in 1912, where he dominated every event except for the javelin. The story of Watohak shows that with determination and natural ability, one can overcome obstacles and achieve great success in any field.

    • The Spirit of a True ChampionDetermination and resilience can help overcome adversity and achieve great success, even when facing unfamiliar rules and challenges.

Determination and resilience can lead to great success, even in the face of adversity. Watowhoek, despite not knowing about certain rules and facing challenges like having his medals taken back and wearing mismatched shoes, continued to push through and set a world record and win a gold medal in the decathlon. His unique expression of pride, humility, certainty, and bemusement encapsulates the spirit of a true champion. The story serves as a reminder that rules may change, circumstances may be unfavorable, but with unwavering focus and adaptability, one can still achieve greatness.

    • Jim Thorpe: The World's Greatest AthleteTrue greatness in sports endures beyond fame and records, as demonstrated by Jim Thorpe's legacy despite having his medals returned and waiting 90 years for recognition.

True greatness in sports transcends the fleeting nature of fame and records. Jim Thorpe, the first man to be called the world's greatest athlete, serves as a prime example. Despite having his gold medals returned and waiting 90 years for recognition, Thorpe remains a celebrated champion. He was a proud man who refused to make excuses, leaving a lasting impact on the world of sports. Though fame comes and goes, and records are meant to be broken, it's essential to remember the enduring legacy of those who have truly made a difference. Jim Thorpe's story is a reminder that true greatness is worth celebrating, no matter the time or circumstances.
