    enAugust 31, 2023

    Podcast Summary

    • Monetizing what you already have: An effective and easy side hustleExplore opportunities and adapt to circumstances to monetize what you have, whether it's a spare room or an unconventional business.

Monetizing what you already have can be an effective and easy side hustle, as opposed to starting a business with significant upfront costs. Nicole Lappin, the host of the Money Rehab podcast, shared her personal experience of writing in remote cabins and renting out her home on Airbnb to offset the costs of being away. She emphasized the ease of becoming an Airbnb host and encouraged those new to side hustles to give it a try. Meanwhile, Eric Kinori, a former high-end marijuana wholesaler, shared his unconventional journey of starting a business out of necessity and later desiring material possessions. He started selling marijuana in high school and expanded his organization throughout college and the early 2000s, reaching peak sales of $50-$60 million per year around 2006. His story serves as an example of survival and ambition, but also a reminder of the risks and potential consequences of engaging in illegal activities. Both guests highlighted the importance of utilizing what you have and taking calculated risks to generate income. Whether it's monetizing a spare room or expanding an illegal business, the key takeaway is to explore opportunities and adapt to circumstances in order to succeed.

    • Running a Low-Key Cannabis Distribution NetworkAnonymous operator of a large-scale cannabis distribution network shared his experiences, maintaining anonymity, avoiding violence and detection, and enjoying female companionship from escorts, while paying taxes on a legal front business.

The interviewee shared his experiences of running a large-scale, low-key cannabis distribution network from the East Coast of the United States before its legalization. He was one of the major players but maintained anonymity and operated without violence or government detection. He spent his earnings on experiences, including high-class escorts, and did not launder the money. He also had a legal business as a front for his illicit activities. Despite the risks and challenges, he found the female companionship from escorts essential for his workaholic lifestyle. He did not launder his money due to the potential risks of seizure and lack of skill to move large sums offshore. He paid taxes on his legal business but did not disclose his illegal activities. He was influenced by various shows he watched.

    • TV shows and personal experiences shaping lives unexpectedlyInspiration from various sources can lead to unexpected outcomes, whether it's learning criminal mechanics or relying on drugs for socialization, but trust and communication are crucial in navigating risks.

Influences from various sources, whether it's a favorite TV show or personal circumstances, can shape our lives in unexpected ways. For the speaker, Miami Vice and Don Johnson inspired him to learn the mechanics of the underworld, which helped him succeed in the criminal world. Meanwhile, cannabis became a way for him to socialize in high school when he was unable to play sports due to poor grades. However, his reliance on drugs for socialization eventually led to problems when his organization started to crumble. The story of Missy Giovi, a mountain biker hired to transport a large load of cannabis, illustrates the risks involved in the business and the importance of trust and communication. Ultimately, these experiences highlight the complex and often unpredictable nature of life and the choices we make.

    • Encounter with law enforcement and its consequencesSpeaker's involvement in illegal marijuana industry led to high-stakes encounter with law enforcement, resulting in arrest, cooperation, and prison sentence reduction. Despite risks and large sums of money, speaker chose to face consequences rather than work as informant.

The speaker's involvement in the illegal marijuana industry led to a high-stakes encounter with law enforcement, resulting in his arrest and a lengthy period of cooperation, including the surrender of millions of dollars in gold bars to reduce his prison sentence. Despite the risks and the large sums of money involved, the speaker felt compelled to face the consequences of his actions rather than work as an undercover informant for the authorities. The speaker's experiences highlight the extreme consequences of involvement in the illegal drug trade and the lengths to which some individuals will go to protect themselves or reduce their punishment. The speaker's perspective also sheds light on the significant financial resources and risks inherent in the illegal marijuana industry, which have changed dramatically over the past decade due to legalization and decriminalization efforts.

    • From wealth to balanceObsessing over money can hinder enjoying the present moment and true happiness. Finding balance and prioritizing reputation over wealth is key.

The speaker's obsession with money drove him to amass wealth, but it also caused him to miss out on enjoying the present moment. He shares how he was surrounded by millionaires but still felt like he didn't have enough. He reflects on how he quit smoking weed in his youth because it clouded his judgment and focus in his criminal enterprise. He admits that the money didn't bring him happiness as he expected, but instead allowed him to leave the game with honor. Now, he values living a balanced life and prioritizes his reputation over wealth. He encourages hiring through LinkedIn jobs to find qualified candidates and shares his experience with Airbnb hosting as a profitable side hustle. Essentially, the speaker's story highlights the importance of finding balance in life and recognizing that material possessions don't necessarily lead to happiness.

    • Focusing on personal growth and reducing financial stressHosting on Airbnb, letting go of material possessions, and prioritizing relationships can lead to personal growth and financial stability.

Finding ways to offset the cost of travel and living expenses, like hosting on Airbnb, can help reduce stress and allow for more opportunities for personal growth and self-improvement. The speaker shares his experience of learning this lesson during his time in prison, where he was forced to focus on becoming the best version of himself with minimal possessions. He emphasizes the importance of not being attached to material wealth and instead focusing on personal growth and relationships. The speaker also mentions his regret of prioritizing his heart over his business at Bonnaroo, but the lesson he took away from that experience was the importance of having a strong team around him. Overall, the discussion highlights the importance of finding balance between personal growth, relationships, and financial stability.

    • A life-changing experience with love and lossDespite the hardships of a failed relationship and losing his business, the speaker learned valuable lessons about people and personal growth, and came out with a unique perspective and new direction.

Life experiences, even the difficult ones, can lead to personal growth and a deeper understanding of the world and people around us. The speaker shares a story of meeting a woman under the influence of psychedelics, believing it to be true love, and leaving his business to be with her. However, things didn't work out, and he ended up losing his business and going to prison. Despite the hardships, he doesn't hold grudges and sees the value in the lessons learned. He reflects on how the experience gave him a unique perspective on people and their motivations. He also mentions that he wouldn't have gone legit even if he hadn't gotten caught, instead choosing to build retreats. The speaker emphasizes the importance of facing personal problems and taking time for introspection, which he believes led to his greatest growth. He also expresses his view that while cannabis may be beneficial for some, he personally doesn't like it.

    • Cannabis can hinder productivity and may not be suitable for daily recreational useCannabis use may provide pain relief but can negatively impact productivity and mood, and the risks and consequences of operating outside the law should be carefully considered.

While cannabis may offer pain relief, it can hinder productivity and may not be suitable for daily recreational use due to its potential to slow neural pathways and make users cranky. The speaker also emphasized the importance of living for the present and not putting off happiness or success for later, as life is unpredictable. He also expressed regret over losing his team and identity during his time in an illegal cannabis business, highlighting the risks and consequences of operating outside the law. Despite the challenges faced, he acknowledged that having the same advantages as a legal business would not have guaranteed success.

    • Lessons learned from breaking rulesFocus on buying things that bring happiness, avoid spending to impress, and prioritize personal well-being over others' approval.

Living outside the system and disregarding rules can be thrilling, but it comes with consequences. Nicole, a former rule-breaker, shares her experiences and the lessons she's learned. She emphasizes the importance of following rules and respecting boundaries, especially when it comes to personal finances. Her most valuable money advice is to avoid spending hard-earned money to impress others. Instead, focus on buying things that bring happiness and remember that comparison is the thief of joy. It's essential to invest in ourselves and prioritize our own well-being over the approval of others. Money Rehab, a production of Money News Network, encourages listeners to share their money questions and join the conversation towards financial growth and rehabilitation.

How to Know if it’s Your Ego or Your Intuition Talking

How to Know if it’s Your Ego or Your Intuition Talking

How can you tell when it’s your head (ego) or your intuition (heart) that’s guiding you? Most of the time, we function from our head choosing situations that are the safest and protecting us even though our gut might tell us something different.

In order to know when it’s our intuition or ego, we have to first learn how to turn up the volume of our intuition. Sometimes our intuition talks through a feeling, sometimes through a flash of an image or idea, sometimes it’s just through a thought.

In today's episode, I’m going to share with you how you can start today by checking in with your intuition to answer any questions in life and how to be able to tell the difference. I’ll also give you guidance on how you can regularly clear out your own energy to keep you feeling grounded and clear.

    129: Celebrate the Triggers

    129: Celebrate the Triggers

    #129: Celebrate the Triggers

In this mindset episode, we are talking about the triggers.  The triggers others experience from our words, messages, and posts, and the triggers we create in others.  The triggers tell us a lot about ourselves and about others.  The triggers are gifts, opportunities for us to learn and grow and opportunities to see that our messages are landing.  The women in The Radical Responsibility Mastermind are at the point where they are openly sharing their stories and this takes GUTS!  I will continue to honour their courage and vulnerability that it takes to share their stories with the world.  Are they causing ripples or triggers?  Yes they are and I am so proud of them for showing up and sharing their stories to impact others!   Celebrate the triggers…You are on the right path.

    In this episode, we discuss:

    1. When your message triggers someone, ie. They send you a message, a text, a hurtful comment or voice mail, STOP and take a BREATHE. Just because someone says something doesn’t mean you need to respond.  Taking Radical Responsibility means we choose how we respond.
    2. Don’t take it personally. It is not about you at all! What triggers someone is all about them, just like whatever triggers you are ALL on YOU!
    3. Focus on the intention as to why you are sharing your story or your message. If you are sharing from a space of love, give back or supporting someone else then great.  If you are sharing from a space of blame, finger-pointing, or sharing from someone else’s view, then you are not in the right.  That is the wrong space to share the story from.
    4. Triggers give us the opportunity to see what has to be healed, what is unresolved, and where we need to do more work. Triggers seriously are gifts so treat them as a gift. When one happens, stop and ask yourself what is this trying to teach me?
    5. Don’t stop sharing your message because of your fear of what others will say. Someone somewhere is praying for the solutions you have learned on your journey.  Share from a space of respect and love, and share to continue to support others.  Let the triggers land!
