    Podcast Summary

    • Travel and the value of connectionTravel broadens our horizons and allows us to find familiarity and connection, even when away from home. It also highlights the importance of our personal spaces and the value of experiences in life.

Travel allows us to seek a sense of familiarity and connection, even when we're away from home. Michelle Norris, the host of "Your Mom's Kitchen" podcast, shared her experience of renting an Airbnb with a great kitchen while in California. She reflected on the idea that someone else could be in her own home while she was away, and how Airbnb allows her to entertain guests when she's not at home. This led her to realize that her home might be worth more than she thought. Another interesting conversation revolved around the idea of wanting one's children to resemble oneself, and the challenges and joys of raising a family. Rosie Ramsey and her husband, Chris, had a humorous discussion about their physical resemblance and the idea of wanting their children to look more like them. They also shared their experiences of the ease of having a second child compared to the first. Overall, these conversations touched on the themes of home, family, and the value of experiences, whether it's through travel or raising children.

    • Reflections on having sons and desire for female relationshipsThe speaker cherishes his relationships with his sons and reflects on the unique dynamics of male and female relationships, expressing his excitement for potential shared experiences and wishing for a Hindu friend.

While the speaker expresses a desire for having a female child to experience both sexes and to have a female friend, he is ultimately content and happy with having two sons. He also reflects on the unique dynamics of male and female relationships, noting that they are not as close with their mothers as some people might be. The speaker also shares his experiences of sacrifices and plans for future activities with his sons, expressing his excitement for potential shared experiences like spa days, shopping days, and holidays. Additionally, he shares his past annoyance with hindrances, but now wishes for a Hindu friend, and expresses his intention to keep plans and not cancel them once the situation returns to normal. Overall, the speaker's reflections highlight the importance of cherishing the relationships and experiences with one's children, regardless of their gender.

    • Joking about the prime minister's haircut and children's ghost sightingsThe speakers discussed the prime minister's unkempt appearance and joked about solutions during the pandemic, while also sharing stories about children's supernatural experiences and their own beliefs.

During a discussion about the UK's prime minister and his unkempt appearance, the speakers joked about creative solutions to allow him to get a haircut during the pandemic. They also shared stories about children seeing ghosts and their own experiences with supernatural beliefs. The conversation then shifted to the prime minister's leadership style and the speakers' opinions about him. While the tone was lighthearted, the underlying sentiment was that the prime minister's actions and appearance were not inspiring confidence. The speakers also expressed their belief in children's ability to perceive the supernatural. Overall, the conversation showcased a mix of humor and serious reflection on current events and personal experiences.

    • Parenting Lies on Instagram: A Common IssueInstagram users falsely claiming young children's statements can be misleading and frustrating. Focus on positive aspects of life and be cautious of unwanted collaborations and emails.

There's a common issue on Instagram where people falsely claim that their young children have made certain statements or observations, which can be misleading and annoying for others. This practice, often referred to as "parenting lies," is not uncommon and can be a source of frustration for those who come across it. The speakers in the discussion also shared their thoughts on the current state of things, expressing their hopes for a return to normalcy and encouraging listeners to focus on the positive aspects of their lives despite the challenges. They also discussed their experiences with unwanted collaborations and emails, expressing their displeasure and looking forward to answering some great questions from their audience.

    • Misunderstanding radio terminology can lead to failed opportunitiesClear communication and industry knowledge are essential for success in radio broadcasting

Communication and understanding are crucial in any collaborative work, especially in radio broadcasting. The speaker shared an embarrassing story about misunderstanding the term "beds" in radio terminology during an interview, leading to a failed attempt at securing a radio show. It's important to clarify any ambiguous terms and ensure clear communication to avoid misunderstandings and potential setbacks. Additionally, the speaker emphasized the importance of preparation and being knowledgeable about the industry to make a good impression. The experience served as a valuable lesson for the speaker, and they continue to learn and adapt in their radio career.

    • The Importance of Emotional ConnectionsFocus on the emotional bonds we share with people and things, rather than getting caught up in insignificant details.

Our past experiences and memories are deeply connected to our emotions and can significantly impact our present. The discussion revolved around a personal story about a beloved family dog named Amber, whose breed was unknown to one of the speakers. This simple fact sparked frustration and anger in another speaker, who was surprised that she didn't know the breed. However, upon further reflection, it became clear that the dog's breed was not the important thing. Instead, it was the memories and emotions associated with Amber that mattered most. The speakers also touched upon the topic of having children and the importance of cherishing the little moments and being understanding of others' experiences. Ultimately, the conversation highlighted the importance of focusing on the emotional connections we have with people and things, rather than getting bogged down by trivial details.

    • A Surprising Conversation About Family HistoryLearning about family history enriches our understanding of ourselves and our heritage, even if it involves unexpected discoveries like a melted Jaffa cake on a granddog's fur.

Not knowing the names or important details about one's grandparents is surprising and unfortunate. This was a revelation during a conversation, as one person expressed shock that another didn't know their grandparents' names or even the breed of their granddog, Amber. The conversation took an unexpected turn when it was revealed that the growth on Amber, which had been mistaken for a tumor, was actually a Jaffa cake that had melted into her fur. Despite the initial worry, the discovery had a happy ending. However, the conversation highlighted the importance of investing time in learning about one's family history and the connections that come with it. It's a reminder that small details can hold significant meaning and that taking the time to learn about our ancestors can enrich our understanding of ourselves and our heritage.

    • A Lively Discussion about Jaffa Cakes and a Hypothetical DogThe speakers shared their strong opinions about Jaffa Cakes, reminisced about related sweets, and speculated about a hypothetical dog's fur based on Jaffa Cake color.

The speakers in this conversation had a lively and humorous discussion about Jaffa Cakes and their preferences for them. They also made some observations about a dog named Amber based on the assumption that her fur color was similar to that of a Jaffa Cake. The conversation revealed that they had strong opinions about Jaffa Cakes, with some expressing their love for them and others expressing their dislike. The speakers also shared memories of their experiences with Jaffa Cakes and other related sweets. The conversation did not provide any definitive information about the breed of Amber, but they speculated that she might have had short, velvety fur based on the assumption that a Jaffa Cake-colored dog would have that type of fur. The conversation also included some playful banter and disagreements about other foods, such as Terry's chocolate orange and mint chocolate. Overall, the conversation showcased the speakers' strong feelings and opinions about sweets and provided some entertaining and lighthearted moments.

    • Feeling Annoyed by Exaggerated Sympathy SeekingSpeaker feels frustrated by someone's manipulative behavior seeking excessive sympathy, while also feeling guilty for providing too much care.

The speaker has had a frustrating experience with someone named Christopher, who broke his ankle and has been seeking sympathy and attention by exaggerating his limitations. The speaker feels annoyed and manipulated by this behavior, but also feels guilty for providing him with too much care in the form of making him tea. In a different context, the discussion touched upon celebrating Mother's Day and Memorial Day with special offers from Whole Foods Market and 1-800-Flowers, as well as Burrow's outdoor furniture sale. The speaker also mentioned their love for dark chocolate and their preference for a cream border terrier. The overall tone of the conversation was lighthearted, but the speaker's frustration with Christopher was a notable theme.

    • Encountering Billy: A Source of InspirationMeeting a resilient amputee named Billy inspired the speaker to appreciate life more fully and understand the importance of determination and resilience.

The experience of meeting and walking with a resilient seventeen-year-old amputee named Billy, who lost both his legs, made the speaker feel worse about his own reaction to breaking his ankle and lacking motivation in the past. The encounter left a profound impact on the speaker and inspired him to appreciate life more fully. Despite initial reservations about Billy's ability to participate in a charity walk due to his injury, the speaker ended up being impressed by Billy's positive attitude and determination. The experience also showcased the camaraderie and dedication of the entire production crew, who isolated for ten days to work together. Overall, the encounter with Billy served as a powerful reminder of the importance of resilience, determination, and appreciation for life's challenges.

    • Effective communication in household managementClear communication, empathy, and appreciation are crucial for a healthy relationship and effective household management. Recognize each other's strengths and weaknesses, respect roles and responsibilities, and bridge any gaps through open dialogue.

Effective communication and understanding of household management are essential for a healthy relationship. The discussion reveals a pattern of frustration and misunderstanding between two individuals, with one feeling overwhelmed by constant requests and the other feeling unappreciated for their efforts. The conversation also touches upon the importance of recognizing each other's strengths and weaknesses, as well as respecting each other's roles and responsibilities within the household. It's important to remember that everyone has unique skills and knowledge, and open dialogue can help bridge any gaps and create a more harmonious living situation. Ultimately, the conversation underscores the importance of clear communication, empathy, and appreciation in maintaining a strong and functional relationship.

    • Understanding each other's needs in relationshipsEffective communication and compromise are crucial in relationships to meet each other's needs and desires, even if they differ.

Communication and understanding are key in relationships. The discussion reveals a woman expressing her frustration and sadness over her partner's lack of effort in cooking for her. She yearns for homemade meals and feels neglected when they rely on takeout or restaurant food. The man, on the other hand, is a picky eater and has limited culinary skills. The woman tries to introduce him to new foods but faces resistance. The situation highlights the importance of open dialogue and compromise in relationships. Both parties should make an effort to understand each other's needs and desires and work towards finding solutions that cater to everyone's happiness. In this case, the woman could consider learning to cook some of her partner's favorite dishes or finding alternatives that meet his dietary preferences while also providing the nourishment and comfort she craves. Effective communication and empathy can go a long way in maintaining a healthy and fulfilling relationship.

    • First Impressions Can Be DeceivingBe mindful of the potential consequences of our actions and ensure clear communication and consent in relationships

First impressions can lead to unexpected experiences. A seemingly charming encounter at a local supermarket five years ago between a young man and a woman resulted in an unconventional and embarrassing situation. The man, under the impression he was visiting the lad's granddad's house for a nightcap, instead found himself in his girlfriend's granddad's home. The situation took an unexpected turn when they consumed alcohol and weed in the shed before entering the house. The woman, unaware of the true identity of her companion, openly farted during their intimate moment, leaving her mortified. This incident serves as a reminder that appearances can be deceiving, and it's essential to be mindful of the potential consequences of our actions. Additionally, the story highlights the importance of clear communication and consent in any relationship.

    • Unexpected twists in relationshipsLong-term relationships and online interactions can bring unexpected and uncomfortable moments. Communicate openly and honestly, and be mindful of boundaries.

Relationships come with their fair share of unexpected twists and turns. In the discussed story, the speaker shares an anecdote about a friend who, after getting married and having a child, discovered that her husband had shared an embarrassing secret about her with everyone in his village. The incident left her feeling humiliated and upset, despite their long-term commitment. Elsewhere in the conversation, the topic shifts to online dating and the prevalence of unsolicited explicit images. The speaker shares her experience of receiving a dick pic from a man she matched with on a dating site after he asked for her Snapchat. She was surprised and disappointed, as she had expected a harmless exchange of messages. These stories illustrate that even in long-term relationships or seemingly harmless online interactions, there can be unexpected and uncomfortable moments. It's important to communicate openly and honestly with partners and to be mindful of boundaries when engaging in online dating.

    • People's Extreme Behaviors to Impress or Keep SecretsPeople resort to extreme measures to make an impression or keep secrets, from sending explicit photos to hiring a coffin confessor.

People often do things to impress others, even in unusual or extreme circumstances. In the discussion, a man sent a woman a picture of his erect penis with her name written on it, which he thought would impress her. This behavior may be seen as inventive or psychotic, depending on one's perspective. Another topic that emerged was the existence of a coffin confessor, a man who comes to your funeral and says whatever you want him to say for a fee. Some may find this idea brilliant or evil genius, while others may find it awful or devious. Overall, the conversation highlights the lengths people go to in order to make an impression or keep secrets, even in the most unexpected situations.

    • The Role of a Coffin ConfessorPeople hire confessors to reveal secrets at funerals, providing closure for the deceased and their loved ones, but ethical implications and potential consequences must be considered.

There exists a morbid profession known as a "coffin confessor," where individuals are hired to reveal secrets or wrongdoings at funerals. These confessions can range from infidelity to theft, and the confessor's role is to deliver the truth to the grieving family. This job requires a high level of emotional resilience and the ability to handle sensitive information. The concept may seem dark, but some people believe it provides closure for the deceased and their loved ones. However, it's essential to consider the ethical implications and potential consequences of such a profession. Ultimately, it's a reminder that life's secrets, even the most uncomfortable ones, can come to light, often when we least expect it.

    • Balancing Promotion and EntertainmentThe podcast effectively blends promotion and entertainment, using humor and pop culture references to engage listeners while promoting various products and services.

The podcast hosts, Shagmur and Denoid, provided a lighthearted and entertaining episode, filled with humor and pop culture references, even during a seemingly inappropriate context like a funeral. Additionally, they promoted various products and services, including Whole Foods Market for Mother's Day shopping and Quinn's for affordable travel essentials. Furthermore, they mentioned UnitedHealthcare's Health ProtectorGuard fixed indemnity insurance plans to help manage out-of-pocket healthcare costs. Despite the seemingly disconnected topics, the hosts effectively balanced promotion and entertainment, making for an engaging listening experience.

    1980 I'm Practically a Dinosaur!

    1980 I'm Practically a Dinosaur!

As your children age, you start to become ancient. I'm practically a dinosaur! Where does the time go and how can you stay current?

This weekend we are celebrating our youngest child, G-man's life! He is turning the BIG 1-6!!!

Desire to be supported and encourage by other like-minded women? Join us at Women of IMPACThttp://bit.ly/WomenofIMPACT

Why is it that when our children age we feel ancient?

Life has changed drastically since he was born. As I was on my way to take care of some errands, I was reminiscing about what life was like back then.

And then I really began thinking about how important it is for us as parents, mentors, and leaders in our community to stay current.

Now that doesn't mean you have to give up your history and traditions just because other generations are.

But it's important to know and to understand what your child hears, what your child sees, and how your child engages in life throughout his/her years.

You have to stay at the forefront in order to know what's happening on the homefront.

The K.I.S.S. ~ Stay at the forefront!

This is not an easy task and in actuality, it is very complicated because of how much is involved.

For instance, let's take getting a tablet. When is the best time to introduce a tablet to your child?

Well if you look at all the research, talk to all your friends, and then speak to your personal experts (i.e., doctor, counselor, teacher, etc.), you will get probably 20 different answers.

Ultimately, you have to set the rules that are best for your family and lifestyle.

However, it doesn't mean that you operate in the dark ages. You don't want to be murmuring, "I'm practically a dinosaur!"

What can you do to stay at the forefront?

    1. Be present where your child hangs out. If your child is on social media, you need to be too. You don't have to be an expert, but you need to know what they see and hear.
    2. Bury assumptions and ask. You need to be curious not a know-it-all. Most likely, your child will learn more because they are immersed in it.
    3. Be a role model for your child. You are the parent and can do what you want. However, make sure your child sees you abiding by your own rules.

You may feel like the days are long, but you don't have to be a dinosaur when it comes to living your everyday life.

"Be present. Be incredible. Be YOU!!!"

1673 To Have and To Hold

1673 To Have and To Hold

The lifetime commitment to have and to hold from this day forward is a vow of unending love. However, how much of this vow stays true when life isn't always what's expected?

It's easy to get wrapped up in what the world says is right. Can you even remember the vows in your wedding?

Desire to be supported and encourage by other like-minded women? Join us at Women of IMPACT. http://bit.ly/WomenofIMPACT

Some people write theirs, others use a more traditional approach.

Yesterday, I was quickly reminded of that pure bliss while sitting in the DMV of all places. Time to get a driver's permit for our youngest and an intermediate license for our next to youngest.

The sweet couple had "young love" written all over their faces. The groom said with a great big grin, "Today, you get to change your name officially."

The bride so giddy couldn't help but lean in for a kiss as she tucked away the paperwork showing their marriage.

The whole time together, their focus was on each other. Much was going on around them, but they did not get distracted. Their eyes and conversation were held close to each others' hearts.

In those minutes of watching "young love" blossom before me, I was quickly reminded how fragile our relationships are.

At one minute we are consumed with all of our love. But the next, can lead us down the path of distraction or disappointment.

Most of which is the difference of being wrapped up in the world or wrapped up in each other.

If you want your marriage to sizzle for years, you have to wrap yourself up in each other!

The K.I.S.S. ~ Wrap yourself in each other!

Your eyes can't wonder side to side and be distracted by what the world is offering. When you're together, you need to be together consumed by the love for your spouse.

Yet we get super busy, and even in the privacy of our homes, we take our spouse for granted. We assume he/she will be around always.

However, if we do not wrap ourselves up in each other, it makes it easier to grow apart as the years pass.

So how can you wrap yourself in each other?

    1. Keep your love focused. Don't get distracted by the noise of the world.
    2. Keep your love fresh. Make time for "just the two of us"
    3. Keep your love young. Always learn something new about your spouse at least weekly.

To have and to hold from this day forward is a beautiful commitment. And that beautiful commitment requires you to take A.I.M.

CHALLENGE: How can you wrap yourself in your spouse?

EP06: On Boundaries and Accountability, Part 1

EP06: On Boundaries and Accountability, Part 1

Sarah Rice and Therapy Jeff are back with the first half of their two-part conversation on boundaries and accountability. This first episode is all about defining, understanding, setting, communicating, and respecting boundaries.

Jeff breaks down why setting boundaries can be really difficult and how we might gaslight ourselves into thinking our desire to set boundaries is asking for too much. But really, a boundary can be a "gift or a little map" to tell someone else how to be a good friend, lover, co-worker, or family member (because boundaries aren't just for romantic partners).

Sarah and Jeff model a caring, loving way to set boundaries, and Sarah shares her "Relationship Mad Libs" which is a template you can use when you need to establish a boundary in your life.

We also get introduced to Sarah's superhero alter ego that she calls in to do the hard stuff. Her name is Rogue Carbonara, and she's a boundary-setting badass.

We want to hear about your superhero alter ego! They're your favorite superhero combined with your greatest weakness. Jeff's is He-Man Algebra, but we're still workshopping that one.

2478 Are You Expecting Too Much or Too Little?

2478 Are You Expecting Too Much or Too Little?

Just when you think you have your child figured out, another curveball is thrown your way. Are you expecting too much or too little?

Who would have thought that gaining balance in parenting would be one of the greatest obstacles in life?

Desire to be supported and encouraged by other like-minded women? Join us at Women of IMPACThttp://bit.ly/WomenofIMPACT

    But oh boy is it!

Trying to eat healthy is nothing compared to figuring out if your child is putting you and dad against each other, or are you going to be best friends for an evening.

You roll your eyes. But you know.

There are times where you wake up knowing you are walking into a minefield. You don't know when or where someone's going to go off.

And once you think you have it all figured out, think again!

The rules change and you didn't even get a text or email.

This my friend is real-life living!

But you don't have to drudge this season in your life. Believe it or not, this too shall pass. And eventually, it will seem like just a speed bump in your every day.

However, until then, what can you and I do?

You gotta level the playing field.

    The K.I.S.S. ~ L.e.v.e.l. the playing field!

Here is where you neutralize all excuses that your child can come up with.

It's more from the attitude of "Leave everything vague expecting little."

And what I mean by that is we as parents put a TON of pressure on ourselves when it comes to how our children act or live their life.

Yes, of course, we have influence. But regardless of the age, you nor I can control our children. We can set up parameters, but even those will be tested.

So instead of getting yourself all worked up, "Leave everything vague expecting little."

    1. It's not about you, but about them. - Your child is going to have similar traits and characteristics to you. But that doesn't mean your child is you. So be cautious about pre-imposing what you think before what they know.
    2. You are playing on the same team. - Parenting is not about you versus them. Even though at times, you feel that way for sure. You want what's best and they do too. However, it's how they see it with their closed-minded experiences. And what I mean by that is children tend to channel one direction. It's a one-way street in their mind.
    3. What happens is not a reflection on you. - Now if we are honest, we know this not to be true. But if you want to be extremely realistic, you are doing your best. Your child gets to decide as they get older. Some decisions will work out amazingly, and others you will question for seasons to come.

But this is called life. You do your best to parent and show your child right from wrong. Raise them up to see opportunities and possibilities. Listen when they want to talk and be short with your answers when you are questioned as to, "What would you do?"

Parenting is not about balance, but the talent to juggle when nothing makes sense.

CHALLENGE: How can you serve your child in the season that she/he is in?

"Be present. Be incredible. Be YOU!!!"

    2310 When Nobody Notices

    2310 When Nobody Notices

One would think that being noticed is the crown jewel in appreciation. But when nobody notices, how can you believe you are making a difference?

Being a mom is hard. Being a parent takes courage every day. You wake up not knowing what you'll learn and how you'll respond. But praying it will all be out of love.

Desire to be supported and encourage by other like-minded women? Join us at Women of IMPACThttp://bit.ly/WomenofIMPACT

    This Sunday is Mother's Day!

I want you to know that you are noticed. And as much as you don't know, you are noticed!

Moms are so important in our every day. But we are challenged by what we see in our world and what we hear from our children.

From the children who rule our every day, you are loved!

However, your sacrifice may go unseen and unheard, not because you aren't worthy, but because they don't know better.

Stop looking for appreciation on earth, and look towards your Heavenly Father and continue to serve with a sacrificial heart.

The K.I.S.S. ~ Continue to serve with a sacrificial heart!

What you do matters. And really who cares when nobody notices?

    1. God sees you! He knows when your child can't see your side of the story.
    2. God hears you! He knows your frustration when your child won't listen to reason.
    3. God knows your heart! Keep fighting for your child just as He fights for you.

So when you are having that down-and-out moment, drop the Instagram feed, run from Facebook, and open your Bible to the truth that you matter.

You are raising up the next generation that will impact the world that they'll touch. That is an amazing responsibility!

So don't take it lightly. Also, don't allow yourself to have a pity party that celebrates the oh-woes-me.

Smile every day because you know that you are noticed. You are loved. And that you are extraordinary.

Without you, your child's heart would be empty. So fill their hearts with hope and love knowing that you are noticed.

For all the days that are spent cleaning spit-up, cooking meals, listening to daily hurts, and loading and folding laundry, thank you for being YOU!!!

Without you, the days would be darker. But you make them brighter with your forgiving heart and determined spirit.

    You are MOM!!!

    Happy Mother's Day!

And for my mom, I love you very much. Thank you for being my rock in my every day!

"Be present. Be incredible. Be YOU!!!"
