    • Lessons from Fitness and Athletics in Business and LifeFitness and athletics provide valuable skills like discipline, determination, and perseverance that can positively impact success in various aspects of life, including business and entrepreneurship.

The journey of fitness and dedication to health can provide valuable skills and experiences that extend beyond the physical realm. Blake Haggett, the CEO and owner of KZB Real Estate, shared his personal experiences in this episode of the Power of Lifting podcast. He discussed how his background in fitness and athletics, including hockey and bodybuilding, has influenced his success in commercial real estate, family life, and entrepreneurship. The discipline, determination, and perseverance learned through these pursuits have been invaluable to him. Eric and Hunter also reflected on their own growth as podcasters and the benefits of an open and conversational format. Overall, the conversation underscored the importance of embracing challenges and committing to personal goals, whether in fitness or other areas of life.

    • The Impact of Athletic Experiences on Professional CareersAthletic experiences build essential skills like work ethic, dedication, and long-term goal setting that can greatly benefit individuals in their professional careers.

The foundation built through athletic experiences, such as team sports, can greatly impact an individual's professional career. This was the case for both the speaker and Eric, as they found solace in the individual nature of bodybuilding after years of team sports. The process of learning and self-improvement through bodybuilding carried over into their careers, particularly in the areas of work ethic, dedication, and the importance of long-term goals. While the speaker's career as a commercial real estate agent doesn't directly involve fitness, they still prioritize it as a part of their daily routine. The speaker emphasizes the importance of routines and the long-term benefits they provide, both in fitness and in career development.

    • Make Fitness a Daily HabitPlan ahead, pack gym bag, set up efficient morning routine, and find enjoyable activities to make fitness a consistent habit for better health and career success

Incorporating fitness into one's everyday life is essential for overall health and productivity, regardless of work schedule or environment. Planning and efficiency are key to making exercise a consistent habit. The relatability of sharing personal experiences and struggles can inspire others to prioritize their health, even if they don't have a gym membership or traditional workout routine. By packing a gym bag the night before, setting up an efficient morning routine, and finding enjoyable activities, individuals can make fitness a part of their daily lives, leading to better health and improved career success.

    • Balancing Business, Parenting, and Personal ClientsTo maintain a healthy work-life balance, prioritize self-care and adjust schedules to meet client needs while accommodating family responsibilities. Make the most of gym opportunities and find a routine that works for you.

Maintaining a healthy work-life balance and prioritizing fitness becomes increasingly challenging with the demands of running a business, being a parent, and having personal clients. However, it's essential to be aware of your priorities and adjust your schedule accordingly. The speaker emphasizes the importance of being reliable and responsive to clients, even if it means sacrificing personal time. He also suggests making the most of opportunities to exercise outside of traditional gym hours, such as showering at the gym or adjusting workout times to fit family schedules. Ultimately, finding a routine that works for you and prioritizing self-care are key to achieving a good work-life balance.

    • Maintaining a Consistent Routine while Being FlexibleConsistently sticking to a routine can help track progress and improve results, but flexibility is necessary to adapt to unexpected changes and ensure long-term success.

Having a consistent routine can help track progress and improve results, but it's important to be adaptable when unexpected changes occur. Rigidity in routines can lead to derailment, and it's crucial to find a balance between sticking to a routine and being flexible. This applies not only to exercise but also to nutrition and other areas of life. When faced with schedule changes or hiccups, the best approach is to put in your best effort and make adjustments as needed, rather than giving up entirely. Tools like fitness trackers can provide valuable insights into health metrics and help individuals better understand their bodies and adjust their routines accordingly. Ultimately, consistency is key, but flexibility is necessary for long-term success.

    • Using data as an excuse for complacencyCheck data at the end of the week to avoid using it as an excuse, focus on mental toughness, push beyond comfort zones, and be open to new experiences to overcome complacency

While data can provide valuable insights, it's important not to let it become an excuse for complacency or poor performance. The speaker shares how he used to check his sleep data excessively and use it as an excuse for having a subpar day. However, he realized that this mindset was holding him back and decided to only check his data at the end of the week to avoid using it as an excuse. The speaker also emphasizes the importance of mental toughness and pushing oneself beyond comfort zones to achieve greatness. He uses bodybuilding as an example of how discomfort can lead to growth and breaking mental barriers. Ultimately, it's essential to know oneself well and be open to new experiences to overcome complacency and continue growing.

    • Investing in Commercial Real Estate: A Long-Term PerspectiveEducate yourself, start small, invest consistently, look at investments through a 10-year lens, and don't be afraid of money.

Commercial real estate and investing, whether in stocks or cryptocurrencies, require a long-term perspective. The speaker emphasizes the importance of education, patience, and consistent effort. He suggests starting small, such as opening a brokerage account and investing regularly, and looking at investments through a 10-year lens. The speaker also emphasizes the importance of not being afraid of money and using it to generate experiences and opportunities. Overall, the key takeaway is that investing is a valuable skill that requires dedication and a long-term perspective.

    • Understanding Consumer Trends and Company Evolution in Stock InvestingInvesting in stocks related to consumer trends requires patience and a long-term perspective. Peloton's rise during the pandemic highlights the importance of understanding a company's underlying value and ability to adapt over time.

Investing in stocks, especially those related to consumer trends, can be unpredictable and requires patience and a long-term perspective. The speaker's experience with Peloton stock illustrates this point. Peloton's meteoric rise during the pandemic was due to the sudden shift to working out at home. However, the stock's value was not sustainable in the long term, as people returned to gyms and realized the limitations of at-home workouts. The speaker emphasizes the importance of understanding the underlying value of a company and its ability to evolve over time. He also highlights the convenience factor of certain investments, such as Peloton, which can make a significant impact on one's routine and lifestyle. Overall, the speaker encourages a thoughtful and informed approach to investing, emphasizing the importance of education and personal experience.

    • Understanding market cycles and risks in investingPatience, education, and a long-term perspective are crucial for successful investing. Market cycles and corrections are normal, but education and clear goals can help mitigate risks and keep investors focused.

Investing, whether it's in stocks, real estate, or other assets, requires a long-term perspective and understanding of market cycles. The speaker acknowledges that every market cycle is different and that corrections and even recessions are a normal part of the investing process. However, they typically last for a relatively short period of time. The speaker also emphasizes the importance of education and being aware of the risks involved in any investment. Additionally, having clear goals, whether they are short-term or long-term, can help guide investment decisions and keep investors focused. The speaker also shares his personal experience with getting hooked on hobbies and the importance of being mindful of time allocation. Overall, the key takeaway is that investing requires patience, education, and a long-term perspective.

    • The Importance of Authenticity in Raising Children and Building a Personal BrandAuthenticity in raising children and maintaining a strong personal brand are both crucial. Ideas come before facts can be tested, and technology may change, but staying true to oneself and values remains important.

Being present and authentic in raising young children is crucial for making a lasting impact on their lives. At the same time, maintaining a strong personal brand, backed by facts and data, can inspire and inform others. The speaker values both opinions and facts, recognizing that ideas often come before they can be tested. The future of technology, such as self-driving cars, may bring new challenges and experiences, but the importance of driving skills and the connection between father and child remains. Ultimately, the speaker emphasizes the importance of staying true to oneself and values, whether in personal relationships or professional pursuits.

    • Finding silver linings in unexpected circumstancesEven in tough situations, focus on the positives and explore alternative solutions to achieve desired lifestyles.

Even in the face of unexpected circumstances like getting into an accident and losing a beloved sports car, it's important to focus on the positives and look for silver linings. The speaker in this conversation found solace in the fact that he made money from the car's totaled remains due to the car market at the time. He also expressed his excitement for the future of electric sports cars and his admiration for Elon Musk. When it comes to struggling situations, the speaker advised identifying the root cause and exploring alternative solutions, such as starting a side business or pursuing a different career path. He emphasized the importance of evaluating desired lifestyles and being willing to make sacrifices to achieve them.

    • Acknowledging problems and making sacrifices for growthTo overcome struggles, identify root causes and make necessary sacrifices for growth. Accountability through a trainer or gym buddy helps in fitness. Embrace challenges for improvement.

The speaker shares his personal experience of prioritizing golf over work, and the importance of accountability in fitness through a trainer or gym buddy. He emphasizes that identifying the root cause of the problem is crucial and encourages facing it head-on, even if it means making difficult decisions like hiring more staff or working longer hours. Ultimately, growth and improvement come from embracing challenges and being willing to make sacrifices.

    • Identifying health issues and taking actionElon Musk's determination and innovative thinking make him an intriguing dinner guest. Personal responsibility, hard work, and positive choices are essential for a healthy and fulfilling life.

Taking care of one's health and fitness is a simple matter of making the right choices and taking action. Identifying the problem, such as unhealthy eating or lack of physical activity, is the first step, and fixing it is the next. Elon Musk, known for his innovative thinking and determination, would be an intriguing dinner guest, according to the speaker.
