    Podcast Summary

    • Understanding Personal Branding's FlexibilityPersonal branding is about expressing oneself authentically and effectively in a digital space, not strictly adhering to a defined personal brand or having an active LinkedIn profile.

Personal branding is important but not in a rigid or overly formal sense. While having a personal brand can be beneficial for career growth and showcasing skills, it's not essential to have an active LinkedIn profile or adhere strictly to a defined personal brand. Instead, experimenting with personal branding across various digital platforms can lead to both personal and professional growth. The key is to understand the objective of personal branding and invest time in it if it aligns with individual goals. Personal branding is not overrated, but it also doesn't have to be a boxed-in concept. Instead, it's about expressing oneself authentically and effectively in a digital space.

    • Building a personal brand on LinkedIn and TikTokStay authentic, share experiences, learn, connect, and engage with communities on LinkedIn and TikTok to build a strong personal brand.

Building a personal brand is important in today's digital world, and platforms like LinkedIn and TikTok can play significant roles in this process. While LinkedIn has long been a go-to platform for professional networking and personal branding, TikTok can also offer opportunities for learning and connection, especially for those in industries that use these platforms. The speakers in this discussion shared their experiences of growing their personal brands on both platforms, emphasizing the importance of staying authentic and sharing day-to-day experiences while also focusing on learning and connecting with others in their industries. Additionally, the availability of tools like Hostinger's AI website builder can help bring new ideas to life online with minimal coding skills. The discussion also touched on the importance of community engagement and involvement, as seen through the use of Instagram polls and the encouragement of listeners to follow the speakers' accounts for more opportunities to get involved. Overall, the speakers emphasized the importance of staying adaptable and utilizing multiple platforms to build a strong personal brand in today's digital landscape.

    • Building a personal brand: Challenges and rewardsApprox. 65% of people focus on personal branding, despite potential judgment. Over 42% secured opportunities from it. Stay authentic, seek feedback, and remain consistent.

Personal branding is a significant aspect of professional development for many individuals, with approximately 65% of people expressing their efforts in this area. However, building a personal brand can come with its challenges, including perceived cringe or judgment from others. Despite these hurdles, the potential rewards can be substantial, with over 42% of respondents reporting having secured additional opportunities as a result. It's essential to remember that personal branding can take many forms and may not always result in tangible, external benefits. The most important thing is to remain authentic and consistent in presenting yourself to the world. Additionally, seeking feedback and learning from both positive and negative experiences can help refine and strengthen your personal brand.

    • Personal branding is a personal journeyFocus on your priorities before building a personal brand, it's essential to want to do it rather than feeling pressured.

Building a personal brand is a personal journey and should not be forced or inauthentic. The speaker shared her experience of focusing on other priorities, such as having a baby, and not being ready to prioritize personal branding at the moment. She also mentioned how the pressure to build a personal brand has increased in recent years due to the pandemic and the shift to online platforms. The speaker emphasized that it's essential to want to build a personal brand, rather than feeling pressured to do so. She concluded by acknowledging the benefits of having a personal brand but emphasizing that it's important to consider one's circumstances before making it a priority.

    • Be authentic on LinkedInBeing true to yourself and sharing original thoughts on LinkedIn leads to more engagement and authentic connections.

Authenticity is key when it comes to using your personal brand on social media platforms like LinkedIn. It's important to remember that not every experience or interaction needs to be a grand, dramatic story or a marketing opportunity. Being true to yourself and sharing original thoughts will likely result in more engagement and authentic connections. Additionally, it's important to consider what you want to use your personal brand for on LinkedIn, whether it be for career exploration, networking, or simply staying connected with industry peers. Pressure to conform to certain types of posts or content can lead to saturation and decreased engagement. Ultimately, being authentic and true to your intentions will help you make the most of your personal brand on LinkedIn.

    • Focus on learning and networking on LinkedIn firstEffective use of LinkedIn starts with learning and expanding your network, while a strong personal brand is an advantage but not a necessity for career growth.

Building a personal brand on LinkedIn can be overwhelming, but it's not essential for success. Instead, focusing on consuming content and building a network can be a valuable first step. A strong personal brand can be an advantage in the job market, but it's not the only factor hiring managers consider. Additionally, understanding the importance of professional indemnity insurance is crucial for anyone starting a consultancy or service-based business. This type of insurance protects against financial losses and reputational damage due to alleged mistakes or negligence. In summary, while personal branding can be beneficial, it's important to prioritize learning and networking, and to ensure proper insurance coverage for businesses.

    • Personal branding through personal accountsBuilding a personal brand can lead to increased reach, influence, and opportunities for individuals and organizations. Sharing personal accounts enhances resonance and positively impacts reputation.

Building a personal brand can significantly benefit individuals and organizations. Personal brands, like that of Steven Bartlett, can resonate more with audiences when shared through personal accounts. This approach can lead to increased reach and influence, as demonstrated by Bartlett's success. For individuals, personal branding can lead to opportunities like appearing on shows like Dragon's Den. For organizations, employees building their personal brands can positively impact the organization's reputation by raising awareness and acting as advocates. However, it's essential to consider the potential benefits and potential risks, ensuring alignment with the organization's values and goals. Sponsors like Kingsbridge Insurance, which understands the importance of protecting personal brands and businesses, can provide peace of mind, allowing individuals to focus on growing their personal brands and businesses.

    • Expanding personal brand beyond current workplaceBuilding a personal brand extends beyond your current job, allowing potential employers to focus on skills and qualifications, but consider your employer's stance before sharing too much.

Building a personal brand isn't limited to promoting your professional identity within your current workplace. You can discuss your experiences, learnings, and expertise in marketing more broadly. This approach can be beneficial if you're planning to seek new job opportunities, as it allows potential employers to focus on your skills and qualifications rather than your current employment. However, it's essential to consider your employer's stance on personal branding before sharing too much about your professional experiences outside of the organization. Remember, your personal branding journey is yours to decide, and most employers value the benefits it brings. Share your thoughts on this topic by tagging @girlsinmarketing on social media. 86: Are You burnt-out or Bored-out? with Kea Meyers Duggan

86: Are You burnt-out or Bored-out? with Kea Meyers Duggan
What is your body telling you these days? It's highly likely that you're burnt-out at work. OR maybe, it's simply that you're bored-out. This week's episode dives deep into the signs, and remedies, for those of you feeling burnt-out at work. IT's an important episode, because we want you to see these signs well before Kea saw hers. Your health, family, and friends will thank you.  This week Erin sits down with Kea Meyers Duggan - a life/career coach, and a professional speaker - to discuss her life, her struggles and her successes, in an episode that everyone can relate to. Erin starts out by asking about young Kea. She dives into what her childhood was like, and how it shaped her into who she is today. Kea remembers watching the 1984 Olympics with her dad, and him telling her, "You can do whatever you put your mind to." She talks how she necessarily understand that statement fully at the time. But later it became a guiding light for her...a way to find determination to do whatever she wanted to do. Erin asks Kea why she went into marketing. Kea explains she almost chose to pursue Marine Biology, and decided to follow advertising and marketing instead. But as she carried forward in her career, she couldn't help but question if she'd made the right choice. Her father stepped back in and suggested she start her own company, because she's be good at it plus she's also bad at being told what to do.  Kea's first entrepreneurial venture was a dog walking and pet sitting business. However, KEa realized that human interaction was key to her happiness (and while dogs are cute, they don't make for great conversations.) She decided to go back to corporate America while she decided on her next move. She decided to start a coaching business, but working a 9-5 job while also trying to run a business on the side can easily build to an unstable point. One day, while sitting at her desk typing an email, she thought she was having a stroke. Luckily, instead, it was her body giving her a big wake-up call - a massive anxiety attack.  Erin asks Kea what steps she took to try and reverse the situation. Kea said the first thing she did was to simply talk to a friend and tell them what had happened. The second, was to take a step back and think about her next move, how to handle the situation, and what she really wanted to do moving forward. Erin moves on to ask how people cans et up boundaries for themselves. Kea says to first check-in with yourself. What has you feeling so burned out and uncomfortable? Then, picture your ideal situation. What would it look like if everything was how you wanted it to be? They discuss how to take a breath and carve some time out for yourself. In summary? Just do it. There is always something else to do, so you have to take a stand and take that time when you need it. They end by explaining how you discern between being burned out vs. being bored-out. Burnout manifests itself physically; insomnia, body ailments like migraines, GI issues. Intense cynicism is also a major sign of being burnt out at work. Bored-out usually manifests itself through signs like listlessness, inability to sit still, being easily distracted. And the only remedy? It's time for a change!     Follow Nicole on LinkedIn:   Follow Erin on LinkedIn:   If you like jammin' with us on the podcast, b sure to join us for more fun and inspiration!
