    Podcast Summary

    • Parents' financial savvy and early entrepreneurship lead to successLimited resources can't hinder success with smart finances, early entrepreneurship, and underpriced digital ads

Smart financial management and early entrepreneurship can lead to significant success, even if resources are limited. Gary Vee's parents' decision to save and invest in a liquor store allowed their family to build a successful business, and Gary's passion for wine led him to launch a successful online platform. Another key takeaway is the potential of underpriced advertising in the digital market. Gary's recent exploration of Snap's ad product has led him to believe that it offers great value for advertisers, although it may not be as beneficial for Snap in the long run due to the competitive market. Lastly, both Snap and Facebook are making significant investments in augmented reality technology, indicating a potential shift in the digital landscape.

    • Competing against tech giants with a solid productFocus on consistent content creation and a solid product or business to succeed, even in competitive markets

Snap may face challenges competing against tech giants like Facebook, but its stability and popularity as one of the most downloaded and used apps make it a viable business. Brands have not fully materialized for Snap, but its product is strong and consistent. Content creation is essential for building a business, and consistency is key. Don't get caught up in creating pretty images for social media; instead, focus on putting out meaningful and exciting content every day. While having a charismatic personality can help, it's not necessary as long as the product or business is solid. The speaker emphasizes the importance of practicality and building businesses, even if it means investing in more traditional industries like dealerships or real estate. Ultimately, the key to success is consistent content creation and a solid product or business.

    • Gary Vaynerchuk's Wine Club and New VenturesGary Vaynerchuk, an entrepreneur, started a $55 monthly wine club, Wine Library, and is expanding into sneakers with Generation K. He encourages staying committed to passions and seizes new opportunities.

Gary Vaynerchuk, an entrepreneur and wine enthusiast, has recently started a wine club called Wine Library, offering a monthly subscription of $55 for a guaranteed $100 worth of wine. He's excited to introduce members to new wines and give them the opportunity to boast about their exclusive club membership. Additionally, Vaynerchuk is expanding into the sneaker industry with a new line, Generation K, and plans to hold meet-and-greets for fans. Looking back on his teenage years, Vaynerchuk expressed no regrets for his commitment to his business and entrepreneurial pursuits. Overall, Vaynerchuk continues to explore new ventures and encourages others to stay dedicated to their passions.

    • Finding Balance in Your YouthPrioritize your own happiness and find a balance between working hard and enjoying life during your youth.

Making the most of your time and opportunities in youth is important, but it's also crucial to ensure you're doing things for yourself and not just to please others. The speaker shares his experience of dedicating nearly every free moment during high school to selling items at baseball card shows and working at his father's liquor store. While he doesn't regret his choices, he acknowledges that he may have missed out on some experiences, like attending parties or kissing girls. However, he emphasizes that everyone is different, and there's no one-size-fits-all approach to life. The key is to find a balance and make choices that align with who you are and what brings you joy. So, as you grow older, remember to prioritize your own happiness and not just seek validation from others.

    • Engage with me on YouTube and DMConnect with content creators through multiple platforms for a deeper understanding and relationship

The speaker encourages the audience to engage with him through multiple platforms. Firstly, he suggests watching his vlog on YouTube for further content. Secondly, he invites listeners to connect with him on DM for more personal interactions. The speaker's emphasis on these two actions implies that he values building a strong connection with his audience and wants to provide them with a well-rounded experience. Therefore, the key takeaway is to engage with content creators in various ways to deepen your understanding and relationship with their work.

The Most Important Question In Business

The Most Important Question In Business

Here’s the problem most people run into when they create content online: They think they have to have something to say. So many of you aren’t putting out content online because you think you need to have the perfect message, or something “valuable” to share (based on your own arbitrary opinion). And what I’m telling you is, you will get more business if you put out literally anything. If you’re an auto dealer, you could put out a 5 min video every afternoon just recapping what happened in your day. If you’re a real estate agent, you could post updates on what your opinions are about the Super Bowl teams. Get on social media and tell your truth … it’s really that simple.

    CrunchLabs: Mark Rober

    CrunchLabs: Mark Rober

As one of the most successful creators on YouTube, Mark Rober doesn’t see what he does as a business. Instead, it’s a way to celebrate science in the most joyful way possible. While working as an engineer at NASA, he made his YouTube debut with a tutorial on how to make a gory Halloween costume with two iPads and a lot of duct tape. Over time, his videos became more elaborate, including a belly flop into a pool full of Jello, and a demo of a glitter-fart bomb to get revenge on porch pirates. Within a few years, Mark was teaching online science classes and selling subscription boxes for kids. Today, his YouTube channel has 5.5 billion views, 48 million subscribers…and–astonishingly, given that audience–less than 150 videos.

HIBT Lab! Nas Company: Nuseir Yassin

In 2016, Nuseir Yassin quit his cushy tech job to embark on a journey around the globe. The idea was simple: post a one-minute video every day for 1,000 days to show the world from his perspective.

The execution, of course, was much more challenging...

This week on How I Built This Lab, Nuseir recaps his experience building a worldwide following as the creator behind Nas Daily, and how Nas Company has since raised $23 million to build content creation services and software that bring people together. Plus, how Nuseir navigates the self-doubt tied to his Palestinian identity, and why he chooses to spotlight positive stories from around the world.

Keynote Saturday: Practicality & Self-Awareness at Sharjah Festival

Today's episode is a keynote I gave at the Sharjah Entrepreneurship Festival back in 2018. I talk about practicality, self-awareness, and optimism. I discuss the importance of passion and how when you chase money you lose. I also talk about practicality and following human attention. So many people are crippled by options. We need to learn to ignore others' opinions and lean into the importance of time and start mitigating friction. I hope you enjoy this keynote!
