Your Goals Are Incompatible With Modern Life

    en-usNovember 22, 2022

    Podcast Summary

    • Navigating Incompatible Personal Goals and Work DemandsUnderstanding societal expectations and financial responsibilities, while prioritizing personal goals and passions, can be a challenging balance.

When one's personal goals are incompatible with the demands of the world, it can lead to feelings of sacrifice and emptiness. The speaker in the text expresses a deep dislike for work and the obligations that come with it, as they hinder their ability to pursue their passions and live a fulfilling life. The concept of "shoulds" and societal expectations can be draining, leaving little room for what truly brings joy and meaning. Despite understanding the importance of personal goals and the desire for freedom, the speaker acknowledges the reality of financial responsibilities and the world's demand for work. Ultimately, the challenge lies in navigating this tension and finding ways to prioritize personal goals while meeting the demands of the world.

    • Focusing on external factors doesn't lead to lasting happinessResearch shows that wealth and freedom up to a point bring happiness, but beyond that, additional wealth or freedom doesn't guarantee continued happiness. Instead, explore the science of happiness to find what truly makes us content and fulfilled.

While it's natural to feel resigned or resentful when faced with impossible goals or a world that seems incompatible with our desires, this mindset doesn't lead to happiness. Instead, research shows that money or freedom up to a certain point can bring happiness, but beyond that, additional wealth or freedom doesn't guarantee continued happiness. Celebrities, who often have significant wealth and freedom, serve as an example of this phenomenon. Instead of focusing on external factors, it's essential to explore the science of happiness and find what truly makes us content and fulfilled. By doing so, we can work towards creating a fulfilling life, rather than resigning ourselves to unhappiness or resentment.

    • Money can't buy happiness beyond a certain pointBeyond basic needs, inner fulfillment and freedom from attachments are essential for true happiness

While money can provide security and freedom from worry, it does not guarantee happiness beyond a certain point. Research shows that making a large income does not necessarily lead to greater happiness than earning a smaller income. Instead, fulfillment and freedom from attachments are essential for true happiness. The Buddha and Maslow's hierarchy of needs also support this idea that happiness goes beyond basic needs and security. As society advances and provides more security, mental health issues are becoming increasingly prevalent, highlighting the importance of focusing on inner fulfillment and happiness.

    • Mental health issues on the rise as society progressesRecognize that changing the world may be challenging, focus on personal goals instead, and understand that personal growth and adapting to the world are crucial for finding happiness.

While advancements in medicine and technology have improved physical health and extended lifespans, mental health issues have become more prevalent as society progresses towards self-actualization. Another key point is that people's goals and desires can evolve, and sometimes they may seem incompatible with reality. It's important to recognize that changing the world may be challenging, and it might be more productive to focus on altering personal goals instead. The speaker in the text expresses a desire for freedom and envy towards friends who have more resources, but deep down, their goal seems to be attaining the lives of those they envy. Ultimately, it's essential to understand that personal growth and adapting to the world around us are crucial for finding happiness.

    • Perspective and attitude impact happinessOur happiness depends on how we view our circumstances, not the circumstances themselves. Focus on goals and finding joy in the process.

Our level of happiness and contentment in life depends largely on our perspective and attitude towards our circumstances, rather than the circumstances themselves. Using the example of Olympic silver medalists, it was shown that some are content with their achievements and proud of their hard work, while others remain unhappy focusing on their inferiority to the gold medalist. This illustrates that our mindset and how we choose to view our situation plays a significant role in our overall satisfaction and happiness. It's important to remember that we have the power to choose our attitude and focus on what we have, rather than what we lack or desire. Instead of trying to eliminate envy or striving for contentment, we should focus on achieving our goals and finding happiness in the process.

    • The power of beliefs and mindsetBeliefs and mindset shape experiences, with placebo and nocebo effects demonstrating their impact. Changing negative beliefs can improve experiences, but it's important to distinguish between acceptance and settling.

Our mindset and beliefs play a significant role in shaping our experiences, including our jobs and relationships. The placebo and nocebo effects demonstrate this, as our beliefs can enhance or decrease the therapeutic value of a medication or relationship. If we believe that we're incompatible with the world or that our jobs are unbearable, we may unwittingly create a self-fulfilling prophecy. By changing our mindset and believing that we can find fulfillment, we may improve our experiences. However, it's essential to distinguish between accepting our circumstances and settling for them. We should strive to align our goals with our actions and seek out opportunities for growth and self-determination. Ultimately, our mindset and beliefs have the power to transform our experiences, and it's up to us to harness that power.

    • Desiring what others have leads to unhappinessFocus on personal values and contentment for a fulfilling life, not on comparing oneself to others.

The root of unhappiness and dissatisfaction with one's life may often stem from a deep-seated desire for what others have, rather than a focus on personal contentment and happiness. This desire for more, fueled by jealousy, can prevent individuals from finding fulfillment in their current circumstances and pursuing meaningful goals. From a practical perspective, it's essential to identify and prioritize personal values, such as freedom, and work towards optimizing one's life in alignment with those values. This may involve making sacrifices, such as working longer hours for a higher salary to gain more free time, or pursuing education or career advancement opportunities. However, it's important to remember that the grass may not always be greener on the other side, and focusing too much on what others have can hinder personal growth and happiness. Instead, it's crucial to focus on creating a fulfilling life based on one's values and goals, rather than comparing oneself to others and desiring what they have. Ultimately, the key takeaway is that personal happiness and contentment come from within, and it's essential to prioritize these values in order to live a fulfilling life.

    • Overcoming Jealousy for a Better LifeFocus on your own goals and progress, rather than getting bogged down by jealousy and comparison, to find true joy and fulfillment.

Jealousy can hinder our progress towards building the life we want. It's natural to feel jealousy when we see others seemingly having it easier, but focusing on this feeling only makes our own journey more difficult. If we could remove the comparison and focus solely on our own goals and progress, we would be better equipped to move forward and find true joy and fulfillment. As the yogis discovered in the East, the satisfaction of desires does not lead to lasting happiness. Instead, we should focus on living our own lives and making progress towards our values, rather than getting bogged down by jealousy and comparison. So, in essence, let go of the jealousy and focus on your own journey towards happiness and success.

    • Understanding self-actualization and letting go of jealousyFocus on self-actualization, let go of jealousy, and determine your relationship with fairness to achieve contentment and success.

It's essential to find your sense of self-actualization and contentment beyond material needs and societal expectations. Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs illustrates this concept, emphasizing the importance of self-fulfillment at the top of the pyramid. Jealousy can hinder personal growth and happiness. Understanding its origins and letting go of it is crucial. While striving for professional advancement, avoid being a "corporate slave" and instead, work for your own self-interest. The world's fairness is subjective, and focusing on it won't bring personal growth. Instead, determine your relationship with the world's fairness and focus on what you can control. Remember to appreciate your own advantages and not solely focus on others' perceived advantages. In conclusion, understanding your relationship with the world's fairness, letting go of jealousy, and focusing on self-actualization are key steps to achieving contentment and success.

    • Take control of what you canDespite life's unfairness, focus on personal growth and motivation to keep trying, leading to unexpected improvements.

While it's understandable to feel unfairly burdened by life's challenges, particularly those related to mental health and trauma, it's essential to recognize the internal component we can control and work on it. Life isn't always fair, and we may feel unlucky, but our response to these circumstances is within our power. Giving up and accepting failure is not a viable solution. Instead, we must find the motivation to keep trying, even when progress seems elusive. The effort put into personal growth can lead to unexpected improvements, and though it may not be the ideal situation, it's the reality we face. Ultimately, the choice to work on ourselves and strive for a better life is ours to make.

How to Create Your Ideal Schedule
What if you could design a work schedule that aligns perfectly with your life goals and desires?

In this episode, we dive into the concept of creating your ideal work schedule. I share experiences and discussions from a recent workshop, where participants envisioned their perfect workweek, aiming to balance professional productivity with personal passions and family time. We explore the importance of not just dreaming about an ideal schedule but actually implementing it effectively. The episode is filled with real-life examples of how a well-planned schedule can lead to greater happiness, efficiency, and even financial success, without succumbing to the grind of endless work hours.

    Takeaways:

    • An ideal schedule is not just about working less; it's about creating quality time for what truly matters in life.
    • Knowing your 'why' can help you resist distractions and maintain focus on your goals.
    • Visualizing the benefits of your ideal schedule can help in making better decisions in the face of work-life balance challenges.
    • Setting boundaries, especially in a home office environment, is critical to adhering to your ideal schedule.
    • Treating your scheduled activities like fixed appointments can help in prioritizing and maintaining your ideal work-life balance.

We recognize that the art of creating an ideal schedule goes beyond mere planning; it's about actualizing a life where work, passions, and personal time harmoniously coexist, leading to enhanced happiness, productivity, and success.

    Keeping It Real in 2021

    Keeping It Real in 2021

Today, I will share with you three principles I decided to keep real with myself in the new year and invite you to apply some of them (or all of them) to your life too.

Before we dive into the topic, I want you to join me (during this podcast episode) to deeply reflect on one single thing you feel utterly grateful for when it comes to 2020.

We all can agree that 2020 got a pretty bad reputation. How about we take all the lessons and benefits and focus on those instead?

Therefore, we are going to play this gratitude game together. I will share with you what I feel thankful for the most this year and how this seemingly negative event transformed my life in a positive direction.

Here are 3 principles we will work on:

Principle #1 Keeping it real with your fear: This is where we address the true nature of our fears, how valid they are, and how they stop us from doing what we want.

We will distinguish between rational and irrational fears and use the exercise to manage the fear that has been preventing you from taking action and achieving your goals.

Principle #2 Keeping it real with your commitments: In this part of the podcast, we will take a close look at some of your commitments as well as your new year's resolutions and identify how stable and effective they are.

When it comes to commitments, you want to prepare for the time when momentum subsides, your inspiration isn't at its peak, and when discouragement and overwhelm take place.

I will teach you how to strengthen your commitment level and prepare for those "lazy" days, so your new year's resolutions become a reality and not another forgotten goal.

Principle #3 Keeping it real with your healing (I couldn't leave this one out)

The crucial thing I will be sharing with you is the importance of shadow work, what shadow work means and how to develop healthy relationships with parts of our personality we don't approve of.

1920 When Has Impossible Stopped You?

1920 When Has Impossible Stopped You?

Ever wanted to do something so amazing yet scary all at the same time. There's nothing like the present to live your dreams. When has impossible stopped you?

Today is the start of a new beginning.

Most people don't realize that it's Easter Monday. It's the day following Easter. Some use it to take a rest and reflect on what happened Sunday. And some use it as an extension to Easter Sunday celebration. And then there's those who don't know about it at all.

The thing is, I don't want you to get caught up in the details of how Easter Monday is defined. The key here is this new beginning for you.

Why not spring into whom God created you to be?

And don't be afraid. God is simply calling you by name. (Isaiah 43:1) He has summoned you.

What a beautiful thing! You carry greatness within. So why contain the gifts and talents you have been given?

Now maybe you have good reason to stay silent, buried in what you think is right for your life. But how far has that gotten you?

You might even feel a little empty all because you haven't fulfilled your purpose. Being tossed in the wind is only going to get you so far. You might be strong, but you will remain weary to what's to come.

Don't let the sun go down on your dreams. Rejoice as you name is written in heaven. (Luke 10:20)

It's time to set your feet on solid ground and claim the promise because when has impossible stopped you?

The K.I.S.S. ~ Claim the promise!

You are destined for greatness. In order for greatness to developed, you must be willing to show up. Greatness doesn't happen without intentional involvement.

    1. Claim the promise.

You can live in darkness or choose to live knowing that God has plans to proposer you.

"For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." ~ Jeremiah 29:11

He knows you by name and He has a plan. What are you waiting for? It's time for that one step at a time to lead to miles of greatness.

    2. Live like your chains are dead and gone.

Nothing is holding you back but yourself. Your excuses. Your past circumstances and experiences. All of which require you to buy-in to the chains. The chains that tether your mind, body, and spirit.

So let it all go! God's got all your stuff. Give it to Him. He is strong enough to endure all that you give Him. So don't hold back.

    3. Proclaim the hope in your heart.

You have to believe before you actually achieve. This dream is yours to carry out here on earth with the strength and guidance of God, and the perseverance of yourself.

    When has impossible stopped you?

Not today! For nothing is impossible!

"Be present. Be incredible. Be YOU!!!"
