It's first for the podcast! On this special bonus edition me and Jules are giving our thoughts on the new Sofia Coppola film, Priscilla that just premiered last week. We were instantly enthralled by the amazing visuals and world that Sofia creates around her characters so well.

There is no format for this one so enjoy this random chat covering the film, the Lana Del Rey of it all, how we're so intrigued by Priscilla, Elvis being a weirdo, and more!

This film has been on my list for a while but it slipped my memory as of late. It popped into my head and I was sure that Jai would be up to do an episode on it.

Much to my surprise this was her first time watching and this was probably my second or third watch. This film is an incredible true story of a 13 year old girl Christiane F. taking place in mid 70s West Berlin.

I was so focused on the performances and depictions of drug abuse and the desperation of youth at that time. In contrast the acting feels so raw and real as if you're watching a documentary.

We found a copy on YouTube and it's one of those films you have to see to believe. Some points we mentioned are the facts of the real Christiane F., a 2016 Gucci campaign "inspired" by this story, and the musical factor of having this story set to David Bowie songs.

    166: Midnight margaritas! | Practical Magic (1998)

What a cute little movie! A great way to end off this October season and a perfect vibe for this Halloween! This is my first time watching this one and although I feel like I've seen it through film stills on Tumblr already. Nothing could have prepared me for how I want to LIVE inside of this movie. In the house, garden, and especially with the coolest Aunts in the galaxy.

Me and Mikey covered this one and even though he's seen it multiple times, it's still every bit as exciting. Our only gripes were that the story seemed a bit weird in the middle. While we were hoping for more of a Thelma and Louise type vibe it went a bit more Exorcist. We cover the amazing fashion and incredible resume of the costume designer, Judianna Makovsky and obsess over another successful 90s soundtrack.

Off-topic rants include: Mikey's Haunted House search, movie studio interference, and putting respect on Bella Swan's name and my complete shock in finding out Mikey is Team Jacob..the audacity!

165: If I let you go, do you think that you can fly? | The Good Son (1993)

This is another one of those films I'm surprised we haven't covered until now. I have faint memories of watching this in a 90s basement during a sleepover as a kid but it's definitely been a while since I've watched as an adult. Luckily Jules had never heard of this one and we get her first time watch thoughts.

We both talk about how the two primary characters, Macaulay Culkin and Elijah Wood were acting their hearts out in this, the normie 90s fashion and nod to Tonya Harding, and the WILD behind the scenes drama involved.

Off-topic rants: Jules' nanny horror stories, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and children playing psychologically damaging roles in Hollywood

It's been a while since we've reviewed a film after 2000. Y Tu Mamá También has been on my list and it's the perfect film for this summer heat and the spirit of adventure and exploration.

Me and Jai had a great time diving into this world that neither one of us have visited in quite a while. Directed by Alfonso Cuarón who takes you on a short but fulfilling journey that leaves you questioning and reminiscing about your own similar experiences.

We found a lot of behind the scenes info, drool over Gael, and realize just how much we relate to Luisa.

    164: I'm your number one fan. | Misery (1990)

I have to say that Misery has been on my list to watch and review for a minute. This really is the perfect film for the October season. A winter cabin, cozy decor, and a seemingly Good Samaritan  who turns out to be a...let's just say "over zealous fan".

Charles was in the throws of a Kathy Bates era in the 90s and this is essentially my first watch. We get into the practical winter fashion, the Sheriff and Deputy wife stealing scenes, changes from the novel to screen, and the long list of actors who turned down the role of Paul Sheldon.

Off-topics rants include: Captain Planet tv series, Loki, cartoons that scarred us as children

163: They won't be back... I don't think they like me. | Fire in the Sky (1993)

Well it's October season and we're here to bring the thrills and chills. Charles picked this one and by about 20 mins in I was terrified. The concept of any type of abduction is terrifying, alien or not. While this was released in '93, its based on a true story that happened in the 70s.

We had a time chatting this movie including the male logging thirst trap montage early on, the fashion choices, and why you should never leave the house or get out of a car to investigate a strange hovering red beam of light in the dar forest.

Off-topic rants include: Roswell tv show, Jaws, the Canadian tuxedo

Since everyone loves our chat episodes, me and Jai talk another hectic fashion month season. Neither one of us are too crazy about spring fashion in general, but we did talk about our favorite (and not so fave) collections for a whole 2 hours.

We break it down by cities: New York, London, Milan, and finally Paris. Some of the brands we talk are: Proenza Schouler, Gucci, JW Anderson, Sacai, Prada, and much more!

    162: Ya, I'm always like this. | Boys (1996)

Another classic example in the 90s of studio interference that ruined what could have been a standout film. With a great cast and a disappointing story trajectory, we were left wanting wayyy more at the end of this.

Me and Jai only watched for Queen Winona. Granted, she tried to carry this film but ultimately the script was lacking and she dine have much help in terms of a strong actor in the lead role. Instead of not reviewing it we did get into what we would change, things that would have helped the story out, and talked a bit of gossip about the stars

    161: You're a smooth smoothie, you know? | Fargo (1996)

Here we are. Another classic film of the 90s that I am just watching for the first time. I'm not as familiar with the Coen Brother's work so this is a newer genre for me. I've heard so much about Fargo for years and I'm soo glad that I've finally watched it. Me and Charles take a deep dive and basically rave about how much we love Frances McNormand.

There are so many quotable moments that we try to dramatically act out, I realize that I have a massive crush on Steve Buscemi, and now we want to watch the new series'.

Fashion Chat: Peter Do at Helmut Lang, the Tabi swiper, changes at Supreme, the future of i-D

It's been a while since me and Jai recorded a proper fashion chat episode. We talk on the phone all the time about what's going on in fashion and there were some things before our FW collection review that I wanted to touch on.

We start out talking our underwhelming feelings on the new Helmut Lang collection, Tremaine Emory leaving Supreme, my recent print magazine purchases, Karlie Kloss possibly buying i-D , the Tabi swiper, new TikTok creator discoveries, and some other random bits

    Things we mentioned:

159: She's not the type of girl you stop seeing. | Final Analysis (1992)

Well, in this film we didn't get a Final Analysis but boy did we get a whiplash of a story. Based on the movie poster I thought I was getting this racy erotic thriller and while we kinda did, we ended up getting baited and switched in a good way.

Me and Charles had a good first time watch with some surprising results. The fashion, the film noir structure, and the nod to Hitchcock we definitely noticed.

Any chance that I get to talk about the television shows that "made" me is what I life for. For the next episode in the interview series I had a chat with writer Thea Glassman, author of Freaks, Gleeks, and Dawson's Creek: How Seven Shows Transformed Television. She focuses on Fresh Prince of Bel Air, My So Called Life, Dawson's Creek, The OC, Freaks and Geeks, Glee, and Friday Night Lights.

We basically just a have a super fun chat about some of our favorite nostalgic moments of late 90s television. My So Called Life, Dawson's Creek, and Freaks and Geeks were the shows we focused on as the others I haven't seen. Although after speaking with her I'm def adding Friday Night Lights to my growing list of classic shows to watch. I discovered so many behind the scenes deets that she uncovered while writing the book.

    Enjoy! ☕️🍿

158: Do you ever get the feeling you're being watched? | Stealing Beauty (1996)

Imagine a wanderlust summer  in a sun drenched villa on the hill in Tuscany. That's where this film takes us in a perfect summer film. This being Liv Tyler's first starring role is insane because she floats through this whole film like the beautiful dream that she is.

Me and Jai took a walk down memory lane with our own similar stories of unforgettable summers away from home. We didn't find out a lot in terms of behind the scenes, but we do touch on the questionable history of the directors previous works. Including some aspects of this story which could have done without the male gaze.

As always we get into the fashion and music which are top notch. This has sleeper soundtrack you may not be expecting with Portishead, Hole, Liz Phair, Nina Simone, etc... Just a cinematic dream along with fashion designs from Giorgio Armani.

157: Is everyone in this town on drugs? | U-Turn (1997)

Ok, so for this one I took a chance and found a film that both me and Mikey haven't seen before. I vividly remember seeing tv spots during the 1997 MTV VMAs. The casting immediately was my draw, that and being directed by Oliver Stone. Well, suffice to say that we were underwhelmed with this script in particular. The beautiful cinematography by Robert Richardson was particularly striking despite the lacking story.

We did find something to talk about like the amazing desert fashion, interesting music choices, and how this ending was kinda buck wild but fitting.

Off-topic rants include: talking about the movie Scream, Ryan Gosling, and why the upcoming Joker 2 could have been an email

Oh, the early 2000s. A whimsical time where we were just figuring out this new cultural shift after the 90s decade. The new millennium was an interesting time in so many ways. We had a new era of reality tv to cling to in the form of Laguna Beach and later The Hills.

We talked the first episode of Laguna on Patreon a while ago but I had to go deeper with another pop culture afficianado, Kelli Williams of Beyond the Blinds Podcast and the Laguna Biotch account on IG.

I would like to say that we stuck to a script but we basically shot around all over the place! We get into PR relationships, the change of MTV, early days of The Challenge, Real World, Bravo's Summer House, and sooo much more!

    🫧 Enjoy!

156: RED LIGHT, GREEN LIGHT! | Mission: Impossible (1996)

What are you even doing with your life if you aren't jumping out of a plane or off the side of a building at 60 being a literal spy?

Since it's Mission: Impossible season it was only right to review the one that started it all, the 1996 chapter. As children of the 80s both me and Jai are super familiar with Tom Cruise as an entity and every year he seems to ratchet up our collective blood pressure with each installment in the franchise.

We both remember seeing this film back in the day and it was such a fun ride. Some of the things we touch on is the amazing minimalist fashion, some Scientology, and marvel at the practical effects they used on the most "impossible" scenes.
