    As the Director of Undergraduate Career Education and Outcomes at Bentley University, Alyssa Hammond uses a curriculum built on finding students’ strengths to help undergrads find their career path. In addition to being a career services professional with over 20 years of experience in higher education, Alyssa is a lawyer, a certified Strengths Coach, and host of the podcast, ‘Counter Offer’. She has also taught upper level courses about business and social media at Bentley.

    Alyssa explains the importance of intentional volunteering as a way to network and gain valuable experience. “What I tell my students is this — about volunteering—volunteering opens closed doors of opportunity in a way that nothing else will.”

    James Tarbox, Ph.D., serves as the Executive Director of Career Services at San Diego State University.

    James always knew he wanted to help other people. During his undergrad years at Bates College, he chose to major in communication with the plan to be a teacher.

    His life was totally transformed when a professor of his told him he should apply for grad school. James ended up getting a full ride to all the schools he applied to, and decided to attend Penn State. “The rest is history,” James said. Sometimes you need to hear words of encouragement from someone else before you can believe it for yourself.
