Natalie Dell O'Brien won a bronze medal at the 2012 Olympics in the Women’s Quadruple Sculls and took home the first ever medal in the event for the US. She has integrated her experience from elite rowing into her new career climbing up the ladder at Google smoother than most. While Natalie's transition from elite rowing seems ideal, it was not without its challenges. Natalie's approach to the transition and how she uses her experience as an elite athlete to her advantage in the business world is downright inspiring. Her story shows that a good transition does not have to be picture perfect.

Karen Kraft Rigsby is a former Olympic silver and bronze medalist in the women's pair in rowing, survivor of battles with cancer after each Olympic cycle, a badass yogi, and a very proud mom. In between teaching yoga classes, Karen sat down and told her story like it's never been told before. She describes how she was an unlikely Olympian, starting as an architecture major at Cal Poly, and she fought for every inch of her success, spending hundreds of hours training alone in a basement only to be turned away from the national team. Karen's perspective on what her decade-long journey means to her now, and how hot yoga can give you the same relief as rowing does, is a lesson in keeping things in perspective when it feels like the cards are stacked against you.
Fergus Connolly is a performance expert who has worked with professional sports teams around the world. Fergus sat down with Erin and Kristin and talked about how he believes that the role of sport is preparing people for the challenges of life. He has made a career out of working with all different types of athletes, special operators and personnel. Fergus has published two books on performance and team dynamics and has a really good insight into not only how athletes can train and perform better, but simultaneously prepare themselves for life after. Fergus gets into the dangers of specializing in one specific area and how that may be our greatest threat to adaptability. Fergus is amazing at is creating models for navigating the world which can help us understand how we as humans and athletes can evolve, adapt, and come out better on the backside of performance.

Anik Wild is a former X Games champion in skicross, businesswoman, and proud mom. She competed for over 30 years in downhill ski racing and 10 months before the 2010 Olympics, she was forced to retire from her sport due to the cumulative effects of her multiple concussions. Anik sat down with Erin and Kristin in Truckee, CA, where she currently lives with her husband and son to talk about the love of competing, the heartache of having to leave her dream of an Olympic medal on the table, and the joy of being a mom and lifelong athlete. Anik is pursuing life after sport with just as much intensity as she did her career as a skicross racer, but the process of leaving active competition has been a long emotional journey and is the first to admit that she's not completely over it.

Kristin Haraldsdottir is a former NCAA National Champion in rowing, Division I Coach, PhD in Exercise Physiology and co-host of the humbled Podcast. Kristin’s story of becoming great at something, looking to share that joy with someone else and searching for another challenging outlet is a common evolution of the retired athlete. Kristin speaks eloquently to her experience stepping away from her sport from the athlete, coach and research perspective: the battle of trying to find the same challenge and camaraderie as an athlete, her research to find better solutions for athlete recovery and wellness, and her hopes for the listeners and athletes on the Humbled podcast.
