Ep. 65: Shredding The Tomb - A Resurrection Of Guitar Heroes

What’s this InObscuria thing? We’re a podcast that exhumes obscure Rock n' Punk n' Metal and puts them in one of 3 categories: the Lost, the Forgotten, or the Should Have Beens. This week we discuss all three. Get out your old Guitar World and Guitar Player mags and flip the pages as we discuss some of the most amazing fingers to ever touch a fretboard!

    Songs this week include:

    Episode 3: RUSH

    Episode 3: RUSH

In this episode, I share some of my memories of Canadian progressive rock band Rush and pay tribute to Rush's late drummer and lyricist, Neil Peart, who died on January 7th, 2020. Also, I talk to Tahnee Juryn, a young musician taking her love of Rush to a whole new level by being the singer in a Rush tribute band.

    I Love You Man (2009)

    I Love You Man (2009)

With the passing of Neil Peart, we wanted to cover a movie that featured the music of RUSH while keeping in the spirit of what the MMB podcast is all about. "I Love You Man" took the box office by storm in 2009 amidst a pretty bleak time where the economy was doing through the great recession. We needed a lift back then and we definitely needed it now with Neil's passing, so we thought this was a timely episode to record. For this episode, we brought in fellow RUSH fan and graphic designer, Brandon Moses.

In addition to talking about the movie, we break down our favorite RUSH tunes from a drumming perspective, essentially celebrating Neil's career as a drumming icon.

After the discussion of RUSH, Jay and Brandon talk about their alcoholic drinks of choice for the week.

    Ep. 11: R.I.P. Neil Peart - A RUSH Special

New to InObscuria? Typically what we do is exhume obscure Rock n' Punk n' Metal in one of 3 categories: the Lost, the Forgotten, or the Should Have Beens. In the case of this particular episode, we are leaning towards the FORGOTTEN. Although, a band that is fifth behind The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, KISS, and Aerosmith for the most consecutive gold or platinum studio albums by a rock band in the United States is hardly forgotten… In any case, we are paying tribute to one of the greatest drummers of all time! Rest In Peace Neil. There will never be another like you!

    Songs this week include:

    1. BU2B from Caravan (Single) (2010)
    2. Max Webster & Rush – “Battle Scar” from Universal Juveniles (1980)
    3. Circumstances from Hemispheres (1978)
    4. Return Of The Prince from Caress Of Steel (1975)
    5. Malignant Narcissism from Snakes & Arrows (2007)
    6. Bob & Doug McKenzie – “Take Off” from Great White North (1981)
    7. Garden Road from Agora Ballroom, Cleveland (1974)
    8. Chain Lightning from Presto (1989)

Music Only Episode: Interview and music from YYNOT

Music Only Episode: Interview and music from YYNOT

In our first "music only" episode, Ryan and Jay talk to members of the progressive rock band, YYNOT. We found these guys while browsing YouTube and were blown away by their sound and musicianship. While they're well-known for their amazing covers of classic RUSH tunes, we were equally impressed with their original music. Even with a solid helping of the Canadian power trio's influence weaved throughout their chord progressions and arrangements, they maintain their own vibe and have their own stories to tell.

This episode includes a fun interview with Billy Alexander (guitar) and Tim Starace (bass) from the band, along with 3 full tracks from their Sept 2019 release, Resonance. We thoroughly enjoyed spending time with these guys and hope you'll give them a listen. You can learn more about them on their website, www.yynotband.com.

During the interview, we discuss how they got their start, and how they pull off such a great live show vibe, despite being located in different states. We also get a little nerdy about music gear and favorite RUSH albums before talk about beer and other enjoyable refreshments!

Blake will have a chance to sit in on a recording session where the band will play live to vinyl, just like them olden days. The guys talk about the opportunity.

“Back in my day” the pawn shop was a great place to find great gear. Now with the existence of Reverb and eBay, the pawn shops, for the most part, are lacking in gear. Brian talks about the differences he has noticed of late.

Brian needs more fiber in his internet, A NAMM announcement, looking for an iced coffee sponsor, and a new Wampler office? All in this weeks Chasing Tone podcast.
