How to Become the World Champion of Your Favorite Hobby | Chris Ullman (Part 1)

How to Become the World Champion of Your Favorite Hobby | Chris Ullman (Part 1)

When you think of someone in the inner circle of billionaires and political giants, you don't usually imagine them whistling Duke Ellington tunes in corporate meeting rooms. Chris Ullman defies that stereotype; a virtuoso whistler, he has performed in venues as diverse as the Oval Office and the top of the Washington Monument. Join James Altucher in part one of this extraordinary interview as they delve into Chris's passion for whistling, which he explored in his book "Find Your Whistle."

From a young age of 13, Chris committed himself to whistling. He credits his father for the initial inspiration, but becoming a champion took hard work and unique sacrifices—like abstaining from kissing 24 hours before a performance. Chris and James discuss the perception of whistling as a "novelty," contrasting it with other forms of art and sports. Yet, Chris believes that whistling is the great equalizer; it's a universal joy that resonates with everyone from grandparents to billionaire bosses. In fact, this underestimated art has brought Chris "more joy than he could have ever imagined."

This conversation sets the stage for part two, where James and Chris will discuss Chris's latest book, "Four Billionaires and a Parking Attendant." But for now, enjoy this deep dive into an art form that's both ancient and modern, simple and intricate, and understand how Chris Ullman has built a life around spreading joy and inspiring others to find their own "whistle."

Hello to you listening in Eldsberga, Sweden!

Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is Stories From Women Who Walk with 60 Seconds for Thoughts on Thursday and your host, Diane Wyzga.

Soon I’ll have recorded 1,000 podcast episodes. I’ve been asked where I get my ideas. These podcast episodes are actually my art form. My art form is to say things I didn’t know I knew until I speak them aloud in my podcast episodes. Oftentimes I have no clear idea what I want to say or, if I do, how it will come out until I write or speak.

I can say this much: this is where I’m getting to know myself. I strive to be as open as I can in a way that will resonate with you, your experiences and, in the process offer stories to inspire, motivate, delight, or guide you on your path.

Question: What is your art form? How are you offering your story to inspire, motivate or help another who could use a story guide on the path?

You’re always invited: “Come for the stories - stay for the magic!” Speaking of magic, would you subscribe, share a 5-star rating + nice review on your social media or podcast channel of choice, and join us next time!

Techung on the beauty of traditional Tibetan music (Part 1)

Techung on the beauty of traditional Tibetan music (Part 1)
The music of Tibet is as serene and beautiful as its picturesque landscape. If you thought that there is only one kind of music in Tibet, you are absolutely mistaken. Techung is the co-founder of the San Francisco-based Chaksampa Tibetan Dance and Opera Company. Chaksampa made their debut at Carnegie Hall with Philip Glass, REM, Trey Anastasio, Shawn Colvin, and Patti Smith as part of New York Tibet House’s annual Monlam festival concert. Catherine Bohart: Becoming A Comedian

    Catherine Bohart: Becoming A Comedian

Catherine Bohart is a really funny Irish comedian. The kind of funny whose jokes actually pay the rent (not in the ideal gaffe she would necessarily choose to, but still). She started performing stand-up in 2015 and since then has enjoyed a rapid rise through the ranks of UK and Irish comedy. In 2016, she was a finalist in both the BBC New Comedy Awards and Funny Women, drawing praise for having a "distinctive voice and a story you'd like to hear" and for being "pretty much the perfect comedy package". Catherine has been named on the BBC New Talent Hotlist and was runner-up in the Irish Comedian Of The Year final. Catherine is also a trained actor and she has written for several BBC Radio 4 shows. She is debuting her first solo show at Edinburgh this summer.

Join us in getting to know Catherine better and hearing about her journey through the London comedy scene, self-doubt, confidence, political stances, writing, mental health, challenging suppositions and coming out to her Dad as bisexual while he revealed he was a priest.
