How we Listen to the Internet, and Why we Can't Get Enough of Podcasts

How we Listen to the Internet, and Why we Can't Get Enough of Podcasts

Maddy Masiello, Audio Production Manager for The New York Times, has been in the podcasting space for more than 5 years - which may not sound like a long time, but that’s over 25% of the entire timeline of podcasts in the world. In this episode, we talk all about podcasts and audio content and why the internet can't seem to get enough.

Maddy talks about how “Serial” - the popular series from the New York Times - transformed podcasts as we know and listen today. And she shares some examples of how the NY Times audio team enhances the news and information we take in every day.

If you haven't already downloaded the New York Times Audio App, I highly recommend it. You'll find Maddy's work mixed in across several NYT productions. Here's one example.

Building Your Startup’s Attention Flywheel with Vijay Chattha (Founder of VSC)
There’s a concept in network theory called Preferential Attachment. When one node gets ahead, it attracts more resources, and more attention. It's a snowball effect. PR for your company works the same way. Once you become the biggest node, more resources flow to you. Today, NFX General Partner James Currier sits down with Vijay Chattha, founder of PR agency VSC to reveal how to build that attention flywheel. VSC has worked with NFX unicorn companies like Mammoth Biosciences, Poshmark, and Outdoorsy, to build attention and momentum from the ground up.

Can Our Darkest Moments Be Turning Points? | Suzonn, Indie Singer & Composer | The Mohua Show | Ep68

This week on the The Mohua Show Podcast we have Suzonn.

Suzonn is an independent singer-songwriter and composer living in the north-eastern region of India.

In 2016, his music career hit rock bottom soon after he got diagnosed with chronic laryngitis. He had to adapt to a new singing style as he was advised to not stress his vocal cords. Thereafter, he started composing in indie-folk and came up with his first song in the same genre.

His latest release 'Humse Khafa' is his debut collaboration with a record label called Selekt by Koinage Records. It's a rather unconventional track compared to his previous releases and is being adored by the mass audience.

#1: The Future of Audio - Krish Velkar, Ogilvy - E1

Krish Velkar graduated with a double master’s degree in marketing and is currently working at Ogilvy, Mumbai as a Planner.

He is fascinated by emerging technology and shares his thoughts on Voice Assistants, such as Alexa, and their role in the future of audio content marketing.

We also cover the role of audio content in successful marketing strategies and Krish shares the features he would add to smart speakers such as Google Home and Amazon Echo. Krish shares his views on the future of audio content and compares audio to video, which is currently dominating the social media world.

    Highlights

    • Audio content is interesting because it does not have a face. Anyone can talk about anything and we wouldn’t judge them based on their appearance but on their views and opinions.
    • Clubhouse is facing a lot of competition, it being an emerging app that is exclusive for iOS users. There is a possibility that the next form of social media will be based on audio.
    • Audio is a more natural way of communicating rather than typing.
    • Voice Assistants are the future of e-commerce.
