S3E10 -- Ultramarathon Man : Ferg Hawke
Few Canadians have the ultra running resume of my Ohana guest, Ferg Hawke. He has raced in Western States, Marathon Des Sables, and Badwater. In triathlon, he represented Canada at the World Triathlon Championships and has competed in Kona for both the Ironman World Championships and the Ultraman World Championships.
Ferg has challenged all of the big names in Ultra and made friendships along the way. He has compelling stories about his adventures and the people who have shared them. As a top performer in the sport he also gives great insights into training and volume.
Now age 65, he has slowed the pace a little but the outdoor adventures continue and he still has another Chuckanut 50 on the horizon.

S2E5 -- Ultramarathon and Ultraman racing on parallel roads
I finally broke down and invited my ex wife Lucy Ryan to the podcast.
Lucy has become one of the top female ultra athletes in Canada taking on five 515 events and a number of ultra marathons. She was the 9th Canadian woman to complete Badwater 135 and has also competed at Brazil 135, a race that follows the most difficult segment of the Caminho da Fé or Path of the Faith, the longest Pilgrimage in Brazil. It travels over the Mantiqueira Mountains, and has 30,000 feet of cumulative ascent and 28,000 feet of cumulative descent, with only 10 flat miles in the race.
We talk about how she came to find triathlon and why she pushed to go farther and farther in ultras. We also discuss the various ways in which her body has forced her to “limit” what she now does. Like hiking at Kilimanjaro as a member of the Kidney Donor Athletes program.
Steve King Stories features Dr Toni Barstis, professor of chemistry and physics and Ultraman competitor.

Gerald Tabios Talks Badwater 135 and Running for Freedom!
#138 - Gerald Tabios is drawn to Death Valley and he's not even sure why. But this is his favorite race. Badwater 135 brings shudders to most runners, but for him, it is like a frienamy; he loves and dislikes this race. It's forever challenging, even though he's finished it numerous times. In this weeks episode, he talks about his adventures in the hottest place on Earth, as well as his other races and plans for the future. We also talk about the documentary made about his 2018 Badwater race: Running For Freedom. He's a remarkable runner and spokesperson for all those running ultras on pavement!
Also, don't miss Tail of the Trail where I give the finals for the Lake Sonoma 50, as well as a special announcement!
