Tamu Thomas | Harnessing the power of self-care, joy and pleasure to redefine work-life harmony

In this episode, I share an everyday burnout conversation with Tamu Thomas.

Tamu Thomas is a transformational life coach and former social worker, specialising in helping women achieve work-life harmony by aligning with their nervous system for holistic well-being.

With her social work background, Tamu deeply understands the systemic issues that contribute to workplace stress and the unequal distribution of emotional labour.

Recognised as a thought leader, Tamu has been featured in many notable publications. Her unique approach, rooted in somatic coaching and Polyvagal informed practice, empowers women to reconnect with their core selves, establish healthy boundaries, and build self-trust. Her work is particularly resonant in addressing the unique challenges faced by women of the global majority under what she describes as, "the trinity of oppression” - patriarchy, white supremacy and capitalism.
Her insights are essential for anyone seeking fulfilment, meaningful connection and joy in today's fast-paced world.

Her new book, "Women Who Work Too Much: Break Free from Toxic Productivity and Find Your Joy," offers groundbreaking insights to help women liberate themselves from the systemic pressures that create an environment where women over-function to survive workplace stress and the unequal burden of emotional and domestic responsibilities.

As we navigate the complexities of self-care and boundary-setting, Tamu and I discuss the art of saying 'no' and the sheer radicalness of putting oneself first without the guilt. This episode peels back the layers of the 'trinity of oppression' that women of the global majority endure, and we explore how redefining kindness with limits can lead to a healthier, more joyous existence. Tamu's upcoming book promises to be a manifesto for those ready to break free from the shackles of toxic productivity, and our conversation is punctuated with the kind of energy that can only come from passionate women focused on inciting change and championing empowerment.

By the end of our discussion, we've journeyed through the landscapes of pleasure and personal growth, understanding that our power lies not only in our ability to survive but to thrive. We explore the collective might in community and the importance of supporting one another through shared narratives and experiences. Each story we share is a beacon, guiding others through the turbulence of life towards the calm shores of self-compassion and gratitude.

Join us as Tamu Thomas and I invite you to reshape your narrative, find your balance, and discover the pleasure in every choice you make.

Cath Counihan | Unraveling the ties between childhood trauma and adult perfectionism

Cath Counihan | Unraveling the ties between childhood trauma and adult perfectionism

In this episode, I share an everyday burnout conversation with Cath Counihan.

Cath Counihan, an integrative trauma psychotherapist, joins me to shine a light on burnout, tracing its roots from childhood experiences to our relentless pursuit of perfection as adults. My heart-to-heart with Cath examines the physiological shackles we unknowingly place on our nervous systems, and how to embrace the mantra of 'good enough' to find peace amidst the chaos.

Feeling disconnected from your inner self can sometimes be like wandering through a fog—knowing there's solid ground somewhere, but unable to find it. This episode weaves together the tales of how unaddressed trauma and societal pressures can lead to that sense of disorientation, and the importance of realigning with our core through practices of self-care. Cath offers the tools and insights necessary to bridge the gap between the mind and body, advocating for the power of body-based therapies and intentional choices towards a more fulfilling existence.

We open up about parenting, working, and the pursuit of joy, acknowledging that the extraordinary often lies in the everyday simplicity we overlook. As we wrap up our conversation, Cath leaves us with an invitation to continue the discussion on burnout, reassuring listeners that every step taken towards balance is a victory in itself.

Join us on this journey of reflection, and perhaps, you'll find the keys to unlocking a more compassionate, balanced life right here.

    Ep#97 Is burnout REALLY Curable?

    Ep#97 Is burnout REALLY Curable?

The first step in burnout recovery is being clear about what problem you're trying to solve. Then step 2 is finding an effective cure.

Many people come to me with what they THINK might be burnout, because my speciality is executive and professional burnout.

They tend to have four main questions for me:
Is this burnout? If so, why am I in it? Why have I been unable to fix it?
And when they hear that there IS a solution, the next question is - Will the solution work for ME?

I hope to give you a deeper understanding, and perhaps a new perspective, as I answer all of those questions in this episode.

Rest assured, if you are a professional in burnout, not only is there a solution, but even though nothing has worked to fix it so far,  burnout coaching WILL work for you.

Opening Up to the Possibilities of Your Passions with Beth Merill

In this episode of The Millennial Reset, my guest Beth shares her inspiring story of truly stepping in to her passion for making music that makes a difference!  Like so many of us, Beth experienced her fair share of rejection along the way in her corporate career path, leading her to base her level of worth on the job title.

But a series of events created a drive in Beth to pursue the thing she had talked herself out of for so long, because we so often talk ourselves out of our passions in place of safety and comfort.  So instead of making excuses for all the reasons she shouldn't do the things she loves the most, Beth listened to her intuition instead.

Beth now creates her own music, inspired by her journey of rising up from the ashes and stepping into her most authentic identity, and opening yourself up to the limitless potential that lives in all of us.

Redefining What It Means to "Find Your Purpose" with Jessica Shipman

Redefining What It Means to "Find Your Purpose" with Jessica Shipman

In this episode of The Millennial Reset, my guest Jessica shares her journey of growing up as a millennial and watching all of the spiritual "gurus" that led her on a path of trying to find her purpose.

After years of seeking answers from psychics and even ayahuasca retreats, Jessica had a different type of awakening.  A wake up call that her purpose wasn't something that she had to go in search of, but rather that purpose can come from everyday experiences of becoming OF purpose to others through your authentic being.

Jessica's story is sure to resonate with those millennials who were programmed to believe that it was our life mission to "find your purpose" and that it's perfectly ok to define your purpose and identity in whatever way makes you feel fulfilled and content each and every day.

Reclaiming Your Authenticity After Burnout with Kristina Wright
In this episode of The Millennial Reset, my guest Kristina shares her story of how climbing the corporate ladder resulted in a loss of her authenticity.  We talk about how so many of us put on a mask at work to try to prove our value and worth, which becomes exhausting over time when you can't just be your authentic self!

Kristina and her husband took the leap to quit their successful corporate careers to start their own doggy day care business, and rediscovered her true sense of authenticity in the process.  Today, Kristina does NOT spend her time in front of a Zoom screen.  Instead, she spends her days hiking in the lush forests of the Pacific Northwest with the cutest four-legged hiking friends!
