    11. Buried Under….and Thinking About Ice Wine!

It’s been a rough and cold and wet 24 hours in my life and I’m exhausted!  There is nothing quite as tiring as a snowstorm in Toronto that leaves you buried under 40+ cms of snow!

But here’s the good news.  All this snow and ice has got me thinking about Ice Wine!  Definitely a national treasure, Ice Wine is something that we know a thing or two about here in Canada.  Tune into this episode to learn a bit more about this unique style of wine.

See, there’s an upside to everything in life!! :))

WTF is Syrah? Okanagan Valley Wines (Canadian Wine; wine for Cabernet fans; Syrah and Viognier blend; Syrah = Shiraz)

Did you know they grow wine grapes and make wine in Canada? Do you like Cabernet Sauvignon and want to find more wines like it? Well, then this is the episode for you! One of our favorite places in the world - the Okanagan Valley British Columbia - is one of the few places where wine can be made in Canada. And one of the very popular wines they create there is Syrah, a wine that you should know, especially if you like fruit-forward red wines. Learn more about why the Okanagan Valley is an area where wine grapes can be grown, and how the area has changed so much over the past several years to become a very popular place for wine tourism. We also taste and review three Syrah wines from the Okanagan, including a Syrah Viognier blend which is something you should know about! Wines reviewed in this episode: 2018 Time Syrah, 2016 CC Jentsch Cellars Syrah, and 2018 Hester Creek Syrah Viognier.

How to Simplify Wine Lingo and Connect with the Next Generation of Wine Consumers

How to Simplify Wine Lingo and Connect with the Next Generation of Wine Consumers

Recent reports indicate that younger consumers are less likely to embrace wine.

So what can we do to engage them?

In this episode we speak with wine communicator and influencer Angela Aiello about ways the industry can become more approachable to new consumers.

With her experience as a wine communicator and influencer, I wanted to hear Angela's thoughts on how the world of wine has changed, and where it’s headed.

Angela is a respected wine, food, and culinary expert, influencer, host, and hospitality maven. She loves to taste, talk, and teach and is the regular on-air expert for CTV Your Morning, CHCH Morning Live, and various radio shows. She also has her own show called 'The Juice'. Known as Super Wine Girl, Angela brings adventure, fascination and excitement to the world of wine. She loves the spark of a one-of-a-kind experience and has spent over 20 years in the wine industry trailblazing, event planning and studying. Her recent adventures include going coast to coast around Canada, teaching what she knows about wine in her Great Canadian Wine Tour. She also focuses on interviewing female winemakers and bringing forward wine and drink brands that give back to the world.

Since 2016, Bottled in China brings you into the food and drink scene through conversations with the some of the most happening personalities. Hosted by Emilie Steckenborn, the show is your one spot for all things food, beer, wine and spirits from across the world. Connect with us on LinkedIn or Instagram @bottled.in.china

Canada, crisps and beyond with Natalie MacLean

What wine goes best with ketchup (or sweet chilli) crisps? What's 'ice cuvée fizz'? How to pair Netflix with wine? How good is Canadian wine, and which are the best ones to buy? Most importantly, how can you win prizes up to the value of CA$400 (or £260)?! It's all here, a small wine universe in a podcast. We're talking to globally renowned wine communicator and proud Canadian Natalie MacLean, who hosts the excellent Unreserved Wine Talk podcast (among MANY other things), and recommending a range of top Canadian wines. Natalie touches on many fascinating topics in our interview, from how she first fell in love with wine to her top wine tip, her advice for those looking to make wine a career, how women should aim high, dealing with an alcoholic father, how the pandemic has changed wine learning, podcasting highs and lows and food pairings. Not to mention ketchup crisps...which gives us an idea...
