И от наших военных «полуторки» и «трехтонки» до немецкого «Мессершмитта», который стал мотоколяской. Такие автомобили должны были заменить лошадей, потом помочь экономике, потом посадить за руль третий мир… и они всегда становились народными. Минивэн един в трех лицах: кроме «Ситроена», есть такие же «Опель» и «Пежо», разница только в эмблемах. Семь или восемь мест, чрезвычайно толковая система трансформации салона – снять любое сиденье второго или третьего ряда легче легкого – и очень приятный ход. Еще одно достоинство: заставить «СпейсТурер» съесть больше 6,8 л/100 км нам так не удалось. Жаль, камеры обзора назад есть только в самой дорогой комплектации. И да, водитель при выходе пытается наступить в карман. В карман двери.

This week’s big announcement is Car-Chum confirming its 2022 availability to officiate at closing ceremonies.  
Also, Tony is proven right on Romanian pronunciation, he gets all thoughtful about the future and promises to spend more time on his motorbike.  Meanwhile Mike surprises everyone by reviewing some big new car releases for panned for the year ahead.  
The Car-Chums do find some common ground though, by agreeing that they both like the Rover 800 and Porsche Cayman.

From CarPlay to coaches, this week’s Car-Chum podcast has it all.  How about robotised manual gearboxes from Saab (the Sensonic, remember them?), a daily driving Model T and a Golf GTI chase with a 1950s Bristol?  Yep.  All of that, too.  Ferraris, fat Lexuses and Dacias all duke it out for a coveted page on this year’s Car-Chum Calendar.

Two divisions of newly formed car giant Stellantis face fraud charges in a sweeping investigation into the manipulation of diesel vehicles in emissions testing.

The automaker, established by the merger of Fiat Chrysler and PSA Group earlier this year, said that a French court had charged its Peugeot and Citroen brands with consumer fraud.

The Peugeot probe concerns vehicles sold in the country from 2009 to 2015. French prosecutors, according to Reuters, found in a 2019 investigation that some vehicles emitted 10 times the legal limit of nitrogen oxide.

Peugeot was reportedly ordered to pay $36 million to guarantee potential payouts in the case, while Citroen would need to guarantee more than $30 million in payouts.

A third Stellantis brand, FCA Italy, was directed to appear before the court next month as part of the same investigation.

Stellantis said its companies are assessing their defense options and that it believes its emissions systems met all requirements in place at the time.

The long-running investigation was sparked by the discovery of Volkswagen’s cheating on U.S. emissions tests in 2015. Another European carmaker, France’s Renault, was also charged in the probe this week.
