Do you feel stuck in a job that you hate?

Maybe you feel like, “If I just get the new job, then I’ll be happy,” or “When I get this next raise, I’ll feel more accomplished.”

Or, you have a great job, a nice salary, or excellent benefits but feel guilty for wanting to leave all that behind. 

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: your circumstances don’t determine how you feel; your thoughts do. So, how can you find happiness exactly where you’re at right now?

In this episode, I give you permission to release the belief that something has to make you unhappy for you to want to change.

And if something makes you unhappy, it's time to look at what thoughts create that unhappiness and how to change them.

But first, say it with me: WANTING A CHANGE DOES NOT MAKE ME UNGRATEFUL.

It's okay to want to change your situation, but it's important to acknowledge and discover what you truly want.

Happiness is not going to come from outside of you, from changing your situation to obtain the next best thing.

Don’t run from a job you hate into another one you’ll be miserable in just because the grass looked greener from your old office window.

Tune into this week’s episode to learn how to find more happiness with where you’re currently at… even if you still want something different for your future.

It’s time to take responsibility for your emotions and ask yourself, “How can I see this differently?”

Whether you are a seasoned professional, parent, or brand new to the field, IEP meetings are a reality when it comes to school based settings. With over 20 years of experience, I have 5 top tips to keep you positive, prepared, and confident no matter the tone of the meeting. 

1. Have your special education director or administrator present - Sometimes lawyers and advocates are going to attend the meeting, in that event, make sure you have support on your side beyond your building principal.
2. Complete a robust assessment AND/OR be comfortable with most recent assessment - Check out my prior episode on assessments like the PFA, Rossetti, VB-Mapp, Communication Matrix, and more. 
3. Include baseline data - This demonstrates a need for a goal. Be specific with accuracy and dates to track goals and progress. 
4. Send a draft home for a review - I recommend a week prior, but every district is different. The parent needs a chance to review and give feedback with their home team, and then you have a chance to receive and consider that feedback prior to the meeting or be prepared to discuss more during the IEP.
5. Be prepared, remain calm, be professional, and seek help - You deserve to be treated with respect and do not have to accept verbal abuse, even during difficult and contentious IEP meetings.

Podcasting is the hottest thing on the block.  While it has been around for almost twenty years, it seems to have exploded in the last couple of years as it has become easier than ever to put your voice out into the world.  Being a guest on podcasts is one of the best ways to increase your visibility and get your ministry or business off the ground. In Episode 45 of Just One Simple Thing, I’m sharing the best practices that get me a 75% success rate on podcast guest pitches. 

Landing those coveted guest spots takes some intentional and sincere effort.

So, if you want to reach new people, establish credibility and use your God-given skills and talents in new ways, try these methods for landing podcast guest spots.

Identify Your Goals and Boundaries

Understanding these goals will help you strategically pick the podcasts to pitch.

Identify Good Matches

Listen to at least a few episodes, watching especially for places where you could add value or extend the conversation the host is already having with their audience.

Be part of the audience

Get to know the show, host and audience to refine your topic idea and make it clear that your intention is to serve the audience.

Send the pitch

Your pitch should be personal and specific, based on what you have learned about the podcast

Plan your Call to Action

This is your chance to be strategic in achieving your goal for being on the podcast.

Using these practices, I had a booking success rate of around 75% of my pitches.  I hope you have great success with it too!
