    Eric Thompson

    Eric Thompson

You’re in for a great conversation this week with creative technologist Eric Thompson. Eric staked his claim in the Atlanta tech space through his entrepreneurial work through Georgia Tech, and is now helping support the next generation of makers and creators through his work at Spelman College.

We talked a lot about the Spelman Innovation Lab and how it functions as a third place, and Eric shared his journey from construction and mechanical engineering in New Jersey to studying user experience and human computer interaction in Atlanta. He also spoke about the thriving tech scene here, working with his partner on a food startup called Eat Unrestricted, and the lessons he’s learned along the way.

This conversation is packed with deep insights, and I love how Eric is pushing the boundaries of innovation of creativity!

    ReachMyTeach

    ReachMyTeach

This week, Angela interviews ReachMyTeach’s Co-Founders, Jeff Borland and Aidan Blum Levine, and COO Helen Bright-Cohen. ReachMyTeach was created to streamline communication between teachers and a student’s parent/guardian. The platform offers translation in over 130+ languages and has interpreters on-call for video chat, allowing parents to communicate in their preferred language.

Aidan was the 2021 Maine App Challenge first-place winner for his app “Oops! I forgot!” and the 2019 Congressional App Challenge first-place winner for “Windition.” He is currently a sophomore at MIT, studying Computer Science and Engineering. At ReachMyTeach, Aidan is responsible for most of the front end design and coding.

Jeff is a math and science teacher with a passion for computer programming. Also a parent, he witnessed firsthand the gaps in communication from both sides and is responsible for the behind the scenes programming at ReachMyTeach.

Helen’s background is in Education and was one of the first beta tester’s of ReachMyTeach. She now works full-time as Chief Operations Officer of the company and teaches English acquisition classes in the evenings.

ReachMyTeach, developed by a student-teacher team in Maine, reduces accessibility barriers in school-home communications and supports reaching all families through email, text, WhatsApp and more, with seamless translation in over 130 languages. ReachMyTeach offers access to live on-demand interpreters through video calls and district-wide alerts in one convenient platform. To learn more about Reach My Teach: https://info.reachmyteach.com/

#89: Doug Lyford | Bitcoin Enthusiast

#89: Doug Lyford | Bitcoin Enthusiast

We're mixing it up in a big way this week and do our best to set the ledger straight on blockchain technology with software engineer Doug Lyford. Doug and Noah were in high school together and were brought back together by coincidence and a shared interest - Cryptocurrency. With Bissell Brothers actively exploring both transferring some liquidity to cryptocurrency and accepting it as payment, Doug helps us grasp what exactly blockchain is, why it's so important, and how it functions as the basis of virtually all cryptocurrency. We also dive in to the multitude of available cryptoassets and how they separate themselves, how "mining" (or minting) works and how its changed over time, and why we all feel this is just the beginning in the evolution blockchain and crypto in our society.
Blockchain technology is a wildly complex concept and the misunderstandings of it are ubiquitous. Regardless of how much or little you know about this world, you'll know more after hearing a dude that's been getting familiar with it for a decade dissect it. BBB is betting that knowledge will come in handy before it quickly becomes necessary. In a whole new world, it's damn nice to have the right guide. ......................  ........................................ .................................................................... ....................................................................................
