Removing The Plank
"Judge not, that you be not judged" Matthew 7:2. It was Dietrich Bonhoeffer who once said, “Judging others makes us blind, whereas love is illuminating. By judging others we blind ourselves to our own evil and to the grace which others are just as entitled to as we are.” In today's episode we'll discuss how to not have a fault finding spirt of condemnation, but to instead judge with a spirt of righteousness and love.

What Does the Bible Say About the Blood of Christ #2?
In this second episode about Jesus' blood, we begin by noting that Paul states that those who treat His blood irreverently are condemned. We next look at what Paul tells the Ephesians, specifically that they enjoy redemption, forgiveness of sins and the benefit of God's grace because of Jesus' blood. We discuss these terms. We note that the Hebrew writer mentions eternal redemption and one's conscience and we note how these subjects are connected with the blood of Christ. Peter also mentions the redeeming power of Jesus' blood as does Paul, and we talk about that. Paul is very specific about the condition the Gentiles found themselves in relating to God and how Jesus was responsible for their salvation. We complete this episode by looking at what the Hebrew writer said about the blood sacrifices in the Old Testament and Jesus' sacrifice in the New. Take about 30 minutes to listen in on our discussion. Have your Bible handy so you can verify what we are saying. There is a transcript provided for this Buzzsprout episode for your convenience.
Judgment Defined: Measured by God's Righteousness - Audio
James 4: Who are You to Judge Your Neighbor?
James 4:11-12
James asks, "Who are you to judge your neighbor?" What if we didn't just treat that question rhetorically? What if we actually dug into this issue about judgment, neighbors, and the royal law? What if we found out there is actually a time when we are supposed to exercise judgments in relation to our neighbors? Andrew and Edwin look back at Jesus's statements of the greatest commands and Leviticus 19 where the second greatest command was originally stated in order to answer James's question.

A Warning to the Rich
James calls out the wealthy who are hoarding, withholding, living in self-indulgence and even stealing life from those of lesser means. Wealth is not evil, but when we find our security and significance in it, we can do unthinkable things. The gospel shows us an altogether different way to live.
God is Greater - 1 John 3:19-22
19 And by this we know that we are of the truth, and shall assure our hearts before Him.
20 For if our heart condemns us, God is greater than our heart, and knows all things.
21 Beloved, if our heart does not condemn us, we have confidence toward God.
22 And whatever we ask we receive from Him, because we keep His commandments and do those things that are pleasing in His sight.

MD 66 - Do As I Say, AND As I Do
Welcome to episode 66 of the Mayberry Devotional entitled “Do As I Say, AND As I Do”. Today I’ll be looking at season two, episode thirty-one of The Andy Griffith Show, “Deputy Otis.” I’ll also be looking at Scripture from Titus 2:7-8.
Show yourself in all respects to be a model of good works, and in your teaching show integrity, dignity, and sound speech that cannot be condemned, so that an opponent may be put to shame, having nothing evil to say about us. ESV
I hope you’ve enjoyed this episode of the Mayberry Devotional. If you haven’t already, subscribe to the podcast, and leave me a rating or a comment. I’d appreciate it.

"I Do Not Condemn You" - John 7:53-8:11
They went each to his own house, 1 but Jesus went to the Mount of Olives. 2 Early in the morning he came again to the temple. All the people came to him, and he sat down and taught them. 3 The scribes and the Pharisees brought a woman who had been caught in adultery, and placing her in the midst 4 they said to him, “Teacher, this woman has been caught in the act of adultery. 5 Now in the Law, Moses commanded us to stone such women. So what do you say?” 6 This they said to test him, that they might have some charge to bring against him. Jesus bent down and wrote with his finger on the ground. 7 And as they continued to ask him, he stood up and said to them, “Let him who is without sin among you be the first to throw a stone at her.” 8 And once more he bent down and wrote on the ground. 9 But when they heard it, they went away one by one, beginning with the older ones, and Jesus was left alone with the woman standing before him. 10 Jesus stood up and said to her, “Woman, where are they? Has no one condemned you?” 11 She said, “No one, Lord.” And Jesus said, “Neither do I condemn you; go, and from now on sin no more.”
