"The Future of You" Season 2 - Trailer

"The Future of You" Season 2 - Trailer

During the second season of The Future of You podcast, I’m taking a detailed look at who we are and how the technology we use every day is shaping who we are becoming. It’s clearer than ever that the biology of the self and the psychology of the self has now been joined by a third dimension….the technology of the self.

I’m Tracey Follows, futurist and founder of Futuremade, the futures consultancy. Join me as I speak with professors and philosophers, futurists and technologists to discover more about how emerging technologies are impacting our identity, and what we might want to do about it.

I’ll be releasing new episodes every fortnight, focussing on topics such as digital death, robot rights, avatars and virtual beings, cryogenics, the extreme self, the Web3 economy of the self and so much more.

Make sure you subscribe so you don’t miss the first episode when it’s released in a few week’s time.

Until then remember you can buy my book “The Future of You” at thefutureofyou.co.uk, sign up to the newsletter there or connect with me on twitter at @traceyfutures.

Let’s continue our journey into identity in the digital world and explore what’s ahead for the future of me and…the future of you.

    Cryonics

    Cryonics

Currently, 118 dead  people are  being cryopreserved in Phoenix, Arizona  in hopes to be "woken up" years later. Why? Because they believe this will win them a second chance at life.

This week of LOL Adulthood, Reem discusses cryonics and cryogenics. Cryonics is the low-temperature freezing and storage of human remains, with the speculative hope that resurrection may be possible in the future.

Is life after death is plausible? Find out in this episode of LOL Adulthood.

The Big Chill: How Cryopreservation Will Change Our Way of Life

The Big Chill: How Cryopreservation Will Change Our Way of Life

The science of cryopreservation and cryogenics promises new life through fertility treatments, preserves plant and animal species and provides cell therapy for ailments ranging from cancer to spinal cord injuries. It can also help with organ transplants. Hosts Judy Muller and George Lewis discuss cryopreservation with three prominent scientists:  Allison Hubel, Professor of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Minnesota; Songi Han, Professor in the Department of  Chemistry and Biochemistry and the Department of Chemical Engineering at the University of California, Santa Barbara; and Nancy Levinger, Professor of Chemistry at Colorado State University.

    Chapter Twelve: Reach the Beach

    Chapter Twelve: Reach the Beach

Tonight we continue with Part 3:  Journey and Conquest.  By the grace of God they've finally done it!  The brave crew and captain of the Santa Maria have reached their goal:  an exoplanet called Kapteyn B which is ripe for colonization.

Or is it?  Up to now they've been relying upon grainy photographs and vague scientific theories regarding what they're going to find there.  Will it be a veritable Garden of Eden, teaming with life?  Will it be a frozen wasteland?  We're about to find out.

Kelvin and his team of brawny engineers and scientists first have to assist Shamiso and her coworkers with reviving the other one hundred passengers currently in stasis.  It poses several unexpected challenges; but none so complicated as what they'll face when it comes time to explore the surface of planet "B".  There they encounter obstacles of a far different variety.

    Chapter Six: The Twin Paradox

    Chapter Six: The Twin Paradox

In this episode we begin Part 2:  Pioneers and Explorers.  Here we get to meet some of the main characters in the story.   The setting is a corporate dormitory in the year 2086 and four young stoners - all of them scientists working for an aerospace firm in southeastern Canada -  are watching the news program World Week.  It's a Sunday night and they're taking a break from their projects; something they do each Sunday, along with getting high smoking THC resin from a glass bong.

First there's  Kelvin, the once-ambitious Virginian who's taken a slight detour with his life as of late.   Next, there's Gunther, the soft-spoken German whose father is a government official.  Then there's  B.J., the promiscuous wild child from Colorado who's never had a boyfriend but always has a date.   And there's Robin, the flamboyant transgender from east Atlanta.   What they hear at the opening of the broadcast sparks a lively discussion once the show goes to commercial.  A space mission to an alien planet 13 light years from Earth?  Kelvin sees it as the opportunity of a lifetime.  The others think he's crazy.

    052: Send a maniac to catch a maniac. | Demolition Man (1993)

While it's a departure from our usual films, this is one of my 2 favorite action films of the 90s. Me and Mikey compare their predictions of the future, Taco Bell, and dive into the real meaning of the 'three seashells".

    Cryonics and Virtual Reality

    Cryonics and Virtual Reality

On today’s episode of TMWYK, we ponder death and what comes after. Maybe you’ve thought about what you want done with your body once you pass to the other side. Perhaps cremation, or a classic six-feet-under situation. How about cryonics? That’s what we’re talking about today. Freeze yourself in time and cross your fingers that science advances enough to reanimate you at some point in the future.

And then, we’re taking the red pill and venturing down the rabbit hole into virtual reality. The dream of putting ourselves into a computer program has been around a long time. Early devices that mimicked depth were made as far back as the 1830’s. Fastforward to today and we’re using computers and headsets the size of ski goggles to make all your wildest dreams, and I’m sure fantasies, come true. Pinch yourself. This is not a simulation.
