    Paul Walter Hauser (Actor)

    Paul Walter Hauser (Actor)

In the latest episode of What's Your Limp? Jordan talks with actor Paul Walter Hauser (Richard Jewell, I Tonya, Cruella).

Paul quickly climbed the ranks in Hollywood and has worked with some of the best actors and filmmakers in the industry. But it all makes sense when you watch his performances, because he holds his own with every legend he's shared the screen with. Not only that, but he's a genuinely good person, which explains why so many people are so eager to work with him.

However, even though Paul has built a career for himself that 99% of actors would kill for, it hasn't been without his struggles. In this episode, Paul opens up about his insecurities from imposter syndrome, to body image issues to anxiety and more. He also dives into how he's attempting to better himself as a person and is actively working on making necessary changes.

Paul is an incredibly humble, honest, genuine and kind-hearted person. He's one of those people you can't help but root for - and I think all of that is apparent in this conversation.

    37. Golden Globes Deep Dive (What's Up With Those Snubs?!)

HAPPY BIRTHDAY! We have officially been doing this podcast for ONE WHOLE YEAR!

The Golden Globe nominations are here and we have surprise, snubs and some people we knew would be locked in.

This time though, we're doing it a little differently. Instead of going category by category we're going to talk about and break down some of the performances, movies, tv shows and musicals we saw that are on the list and talk about why they should or shouldn't have been nominated.

We're also talking snubs. Where is Jurnee Smollett? Where is Zendaya? Where is ANYONE from Da 5 Bloods? Do you see a trend? We do!

    Top 10 Films of 2020

    Top 10 Films of 2020

OK, “reel” talk. 2020 was…interesting. It was definitely the most unique year of film in the last century of moviegoing. But throughout all the weirdness, we here at Cinemaholics found ourselves captivated by no small number of great projects from veteran filmmakers, first-time directors, and plenty of independent voices. In our annual “best of the year” show, we each discuss our general thoughts on 2020, our honorable mentions, and of course, our respective Top 10 choices. Plus, we share voicemails from some of you listeners discussing your favorite films of 2020.

    Show Notes:

That means they mostly talk about what has been available on streaming platforms. Thanks for sticking with us!

We are so used to the narrative of the Vietnam War being told through a masculine lens; male politicians, sending male soldiers to Vietnam, movies about male soldiers and male historians writing all the textbooks. But there is a group whose perspective we don’t hear from very often, and that is the Vietnamese women who fought for the Viet Cong. Hanoi Hannah and the Perfume River Squad, it is time to hear to hear your stories.

    Reflection Questions

    1. Research the context of the 1960, what rights did women in your country not have at this time?
    2. Why do you think that women have not been allowed in combat roles in the armed forces for such a long time? What is the thinking behind these kinds of restrictions?
    3. Can you think of a reason why western textbooks do not generally include the role that women played in the Vietnam War?
    4. 50 years later, the former Perfume Rive Squad member explains “I wanted to liberate myself, liberate my homeland, and liberate other women.”  Explain her perspective on the Vietnam War and her motive for making the statement.
    5. What is the implicit and explicit meaning behind Hanoi Hannah’s announcement, “Do you miss your families and homes? They are questioning why you are here. In America there is no unity, there is violence, there are protests against you.”

Cinema File: "Dead Presidents" isn't on Blu-ray (and Disney might know why)

Released by Disney's Buena Vista Pictures in 1995, the unsung Hughes Brothers Vietnam War-era crime thriller "Dead Presidents" received a features-packed Criterion Collection laserdisc release the following year, but is so far not available on Blu ray (the DVD release was bare bones). In this episode, Andrew and Kate look back at the cult classic with a stunning soundtrack and still-relevant subject matter.

After a prolonged and unexpected absence, Mike and Adam return to fill you in on what's been going on during the 2020 pandemic and quarantine. Our Two Cents on 50

    Our Two Cents on 50

This week, Tre’vell and Jarrett are talking about hip hop mogul Curtis Jackson, better-known as 50 Cent.

The rapper turned actor, producer and sometimes internet troll has been in the news cycle recently due to a string of comments he made while visiting Lil Wayne's radio show where he labeled Black women as bitter and angry while ridiculing them for failing to be exotic.

    [caption id="attachment_66122" align="aligncenter" width="384"]

Unlike Fiddy, who hails from the exotic isle of...South Jamaica... Queens.[/caption]

We'll discuss the misogynoir, toxic masculinity and just straight-up immaturity behind some of the rapper's worst public moments and discuss what it is about 50 Cent that made audiences love him in the first place!

    But first…

    A Tough Question

If you're following Jarrett and Tre'vell on the medias social, chances are you saw Jarrett's tweet about our current state of affairs.

This week, we want to know how you're coping during COVID-19 and how you strike a balance between being cautious and living your life.

    DIS/Honorable Mentions

This week, Tre'vell has an honorable mention cooking for the Queens Chloe and Halle and their latest album Ungodly Hour. These young sisters did what needed to be done and have all of the range.

Jarrett has an honorable mention for MSNBC's Joy Reid whose new show The Reidout.

An honorable mention to playwright and show-runner Katori Hall who joins Bullseye with Jesse Thorn guest host Tre'vell Anderson on NPR this Friday to talk about her new show P-Valley. Both Tre'vell and Jarrett took over the Bullseye desk this week. You can catch Jarrett's interview with Da 5 Bloods' Norm Lewis here. You can stream P-Valley here

An honorable mention for Jarrett, from Jarrett for the anniversary of him breaking the Melania Trump speech plagiarism story

Lastly, a special mention goes out to friend to the show India Arie who helped get us together about something we mentioned on last week's show. We've never been so pleased to be dragged!
