    Death Races 2000 and Something

    Death Races 2000 and Something

Dan and Keith speed into the far flung future year of 2000 as envisioned by 1975, for the dystopic blood sport of Death Race 2000. Car-based gladiators slaughter their way through a cross-country race of miles and mayhem in a world dominated by the cruelty of minority rule fascism, where the resistance can't stop fighting each other long enough to make a difference, people are weirdly okay with Nazis, and the only unbelievable part is the notion that David Carradine is the sexy one in the cast. Then jump forward to the Unspecified Future as Death Race gets remade with the only star suitable to this much car-based ultraviolence, Jason Statham, in a new, modern blood sport dystopia that suggests maybe the US for-profit prison system has some flaws. Turns out there is a lot more to unpack than you'd think as we dig into the Death Races. Grab your navigator and strap in, it's a bumpy ride.

VDC #91 200 Mile Run for Charity w/ Phil Troyer

VDC #91 200 Mile Run for Charity w/ Phil Troyer

Fresh off his 200 mile “fun” run for the odyssey house of grande prairie, Phil Troyer returns for his second appearance on the Vondubcast to tell us all about it! I couldn’t get over the will and determination Phil shows with whatever he sets his mind to. Not only physically with these incredible feats but also in the planning, detail and community he is able to foster while pushing these physical limits to the absolute brink. We discuss the lead up and planning of the run, a leg by leg breakdown and all the emotions along the way, we cover everything he ate and also try to decipher all the copious lessons an undertaking like this can teach and try to make it applicable to anyone listening. I personally learned a ton in this conversation and I truly believe you will too if you give it a chance!

We also discuss the amazing organization that is the odyssey house and exactly how much money and promotion Phil’s run brought! Please check them out as well and all the work they do for the community!

VDC #74 Ultra Marathons and Grizzly Bears w/ Phil Troyer

VDC #74 Ultra Marathons and Grizzly Bears w/ Phil Troyer

Changing up the release order for this one because I couldn’t let another day go by without letting the world hear this conversation! It’s got everything! Grizzly bears, pushing limits, mental toughness, cheesy jokes, and a whole lot of running Info! Phil has been running ultra Marathons for a couple of years including the death race and the process couldn't be more fascinating. Now he is using all that he has learned to break the 200 mile barrier for the first time in a run he is putting together to raise money for the odyssey house! This is an amazing initiative that will ensure the money goes to a great cause!

I’m really proud of this conversation and even if you aren’t a runner I believe there is a little something for everyone! Check it out and pass it on to a friend of you enjoy!

Going to Battle and Becoming Deerheart

    Introduction Notes

Nearly 25 years ago, Timothy McVeigh killed 168 people including 19 children, when he parked a rental van full of explosives in front of the Oklahoma Building, exited the vehicle then triggered the bomb as he walked away. At the time, it was the worst act of homegrown terroism in U.S. history. This was the same building where John had received his dual citizenship years earlier.

An active volcano, climbing Mount Baker is no small thing. Also, it's over 10,000 feet tall. It's Indigeous name is Kulshan (Nooksack).

Wade described himself as an "empath." This was the same term that was used in Blair's excellent episode.

When Wade first looked in the mirror as a 12 year old boy, he gave himself what he thought he needed. He shut off his empathy. This decision took him on a 30 year journey away from his true self.

If somoene tells you, "men don't cry," they are mistaken. The fact is, a "real man" knows who he is and certainly doesn't hide from his emotions or his true self. This is true for any human being.

If you would like more information on Wade's involvement in Crotia, here are some great articles and videos! The Battle at Medack Pocket (Medack is a town in Croatia)

PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) affects countless Veterans and many people who have endured trauma.

Being positive is only one part of the journey. Learning to Be With all of our emotions is the only way to be fully human and discover our true selves.

Corinna Stevenson facilitates Vision Quests, a transformational multi day experience that helps with connecting with your true self. This was a game changer for Wade.

Wade has done the hard work of learning to embrace his true self. He can help you do the same!
