Exposing The MYTH of The Free Market | Naomi Oreskes

Naomi Oreskes is the Henry Charles Lea Professor of the History of Science at Harvard University.

She is the author of many books, including Why Trust Science?, The Collapse of Western Civilization, Merchants of Doubt (upon which an acclaimed documentary was based), and, her most recent work, The Big Myth

Professor Oreskes is a veritable mine of information (forgive the pun!)

After obtaining degrees in Geology and the History of Science, Professor Oreskes worked in the mining industry. She then entered the field of academia, in which she’s held various distinguished positions.

My conversation with Professor Oreskes was a fast-paced, thought-provoking delight! I think you’ll agree.

    In it, we discuss:

The “Big Myth”; Free Market capitalism; Government regulation; Market fundamentalism; The fallacy of the excluded middle; The Depression; The New Deal; Climate Change; Global Warming; The future of electric vehicles; The minerals required to build batteries; Sustainability; The car you should be driving if you want to be “green”; If our investments in “green energy” have been worth it; How to study multiple fields: economics, politics, science; Disinformation; Conservatives and Progressives; Distrust in our institutions…

    And MUCH More!

Can Discipline Outweigh Motivation for Success? A Conversation With Jose Escobar

Immerse yourself in the world of entrepreneurship, leadership, and personal growth with the latest episode of The Hustle Nation Podcast. In this conversation, we have the privilege of hosting Jose Escobar, an award-winning personal development speaker, eight-time published author, and a successful sales professional who has redefined the concept of hustle.

What sets Jose apart? Beyond being a devoted husband and father of five, he's grown not one, but two businesses into multi-six-figure powerhouses, both crossing the seven-figure mark. A leader of leaders, he has established thriving communities of entrepreneurs through his creations, The Entrepreneur's Bookshelf and The Connected Leaders Academy.

Jose's storytelling ability is second to none, taking listeners on a journey from his roots as a first-generation American with a Guatemalan lineage to his early career in the banking and insurance sectors. Hear about his dynamic shift into the martial arts industry, where he not only generated impressive sales figures but also made a significant impact on the lives of thousands of families.

Diving deeper into Jose's journey, the podcast episode touches on his transition from corporate life to entrepreneurship. Be inspired by how he channeled personal feedback and transformed it into a new venture, and learn about the 'five key elements' of his success recipe.

Jose candidly discusses the mental blocks and challenges he faced, bringing to light the struggles of launching a venture and breaking through the noise of 'expert advice.' His message is clear: success is a commitment and consistency is the key.

Ever wondered how an individual can be a best-selling author of eight books in a year or become an international speaker? Listen to Jose's strategies for managing time and embracing a disciplined life. The discussion takes a unique turn as it underlines the importance of 'discipline over motivation' and explores the concept of 'mental constipation.'

In an industry saturated with success stories, Jose's approach stands out with its focus on self-care, fostering the idea that only by being selfish can one be truly selfless. His emphasis on daily reading and learning as an integral part of professional and personal growth is truly enlightening

This is not just a podcast episode, it's a session packed with actionable advice, thought-provoking discussions, and tales of relentless hustle. Tune in to learn from a man who embodies personal and professional excellence in every sense. On today's episode of Yours Mentally we talk about overthinking. This episode is in conversation with Sanam Devidasani who is a Counselling Psychologist.

We begin the episode by asking Sanam what is overthinking and why does it happen?
We then ask her if it is an innate personality trait or something our lifestyle leads us to doing and ask her to explain overthinking with an example.
We also ask in what way does it trouble and disrupt our activities?
We then talk about how can one be empathetic if they have a relationship with an overthinker and how can they help them out?

Episode 19: You Become What You Think About

For good or bad, you become what you think about. The secret to success comes from learning and applying this principle in your life. I cover much of Earl Nightingale's The Strangest Secret and discuss how you can apply it in your life to design the life you desire.

If you haven't heard Earl Nightingale's The Strangest Secret, I highly recommend it. I quote a good chunk in my show, but the whole thing is worth a listen.

#153 Deep Thoughts for the New Year with Theresa

Slipping into the New Year with some deep thoughts about the things I think about. Like... revisiting my last year's resolution to practice non-judgment and how I failed at it because of things like Kundalini Yoga and QAnon (the irony is not lost on me that as I was doing my show they were storming the capitol), my adjustment and recommitment to non-judgment inspired by Charles Eisenstein, vibration, serendipity, signs from the Universe, devotion, self-care and starting a book club! Who's in? Seriously, let's pick a book that inspires that we can talk about on the show. Plus, I marry everyone to themselves and share the words of David Foster Wallace that resonate deeply with me. Here's my Youtube Channel if you want to join in the daily 15-17 minute practice. Hope everyone's year is a good one!

Creating Measurable Goals - Creating SMART Goals

Creating Measurable Goals - Creating SMART Goals

Hello Everyone & Welcome Back to the RealPositiveGirl Podcast!

Thank you so much for joining me again!

    Happy Tuesday!

This week's theme for the podcast is: Creating SMART Goals

The concept of SMART goals was created originally by George T. Doran in 1981. He was a consultant that wrote down the acronym for an article talking about management goals.

This week I want to break down each step of the formula & what you need to know to create the best goals ever!

Hopefully, this helps you spend a little more time creating the best & easiest goals to accomplish.

Here are some notes from today's episode:

    • Making sure your goals are measurable will help you keep track of your progress.
    • Goals that aren’t measurable make it hard to track progress & give you any idea of how far you have come & where you are headed based on how you are progressing.
    • Not keeping track of your progress can also cause a lack of motivation.
    • And you might not even know you have hit your goals if you don’t keep track of your progress.
    • If I haven’t made it clear by now, the biggest thing is to know is when you have accomplished your goal.
    • And example of a goal that isn’t measurable is saying you are going to be the best at something. That is hard to measure because it’s very opinion based. A way to make that measurable is you will gain this many clients, make this many sales or run this many miles.
    • Basically, your goal will need to include a number or something that can be counted for it to be measurable.
    • I find that keeping a journal, planner or Excel spreadsheet up to date with your goals will help you document those measurables & progress.
    • The planner that I have allows me to update my top 3 goals each day and add in a focus for each day. But I also have google sheets that help me keep track of online content, which allows me to track my progress of getting to however many posts, ect.
    • It honestly does not matter how you track it. Just find the best way that works for you.
    • There are many phone apps that work for progress tracking, as well. One that I really like for iPhone is called Goal Streaks and it’s free. It allows you to create a list of things that you can check off each time you complete it, create reminders for when it needs to be done & any exceptions you may need to incorporate.
    • I think I have hit on all the important things for making sure your goals are measurable.
    • Find a way to track your progress & make sure your goals can actually be measured.

Please share this podcast with anyone that may need this encouragement!

Thank you again for listening & I hope this episode was helpful.
