Episode 59: Desert Dust and Dangerous Driving with Jordan Price

Episode 59: Desert Dust and Dangerous Driving with Jordan Price

Jordan Price,  mechanic and race car driver, joins us for this episode to talk about her experiences in what has become a family matter. Now, at the age of nineteen years old, Jordan is following in her father's footsteps as a local boat mechanic in his shop located in the Warm Springs district of Fremont. But that is not the only place that they work together.

At just the age of fourteen, Jordan began racing with him as a navigator through hundreds of miles of desert in Baja, Mexico. Jordan later began to race as the driver herself and now is making her tracks in the sand as legitimate desert racer.

The Price family had a bit of their story featured in the documentary movie Dust 2 Glory by acclaimed producer, Dana Brown. You can find out more about her on her Instagram. More links and articles about Jordan here as well

Check out Minuteman Press in Irvington for all your Design and Printing needs. They have a five star rating and are wonderful to work with. Find out more about them here.

The other, and lesser known half of the passionate duo who pioneered the King of the Hammers and ULTRA4 Racing franchise, Jeff Knoll @poppa_jefe joins us on The Talent Tank on this momentous milestone Episode 50 and Spring 2021 Season Finale.  Thought provocateur, entrepreneur, always forward thinker, and Flaming Hot Cheeto hater.  Join in on this discussion on how idea inception, perception play their roles in our daily critical thinking. What about walking away from everything he loved in off-road racing?  There's actually life after it!  Re-invention, and what agility mean to successes in careers, and life.   Reflection and comparisons of style and circumstance give way to an amazing discussion on sponsors, courting sponsorships, and golden nuggets for those of you chasing them.

You can't call yourself "the premier podcast for ULTRA4 & Off-Road Racing" without having on the current and three time King, Randy Slawson @bomberfabrication on your show.  Randy the driver of the ULTRA4 Racing 4448 & 4848 and sole proprietor of Bomber Fabrication.  With a legacy of a fast, simple, no non-sense stable of his own cars, and a slew of those he's built of designed for others that complete all all levels of the offroad circuits.  He gives us the low down on what makes him tick, why he believes he's had the success he's had, and most importantly.  He's a damn nice guy despite his shyness, and lifelong RBF prognosis.
We talk The Fab School, dirtbikes, being married to better drivers, working with junk, and never giving up on this episode of The Talent Tank

When you think of someone that marches to the beat of their own drum, that doesn't conform to a single norm, a vagabond, a nomad, an explorer on only a quest that they can complete.  I hope you picture Kyle Seggelin @iwannagofast77  from this moment forward.  Kyle is the driver of the #4654, the first EV vehicle in rock sports and the first to complete a King of the Hammers course.  Kyle and I first crossed paths at the 2021 King of the Hammers at a little known side-show called @ultra3_racing a good time with friends, 3-wheelers and at Tuesday night in the desert.  Where its gone since then, well, you'll have to listen.  But be prepared to find yourself seeking out used Toyota RV's and charting continent crossing adventures.   From Boston, to California, to Cabo and back.  From working for ULTRA4 Racing, to the assembly line at Tesla @teslamotors.  Investing in yourself, and how this BeanTowner worked his way into the Tesla R&D shop.  His Chinese is so good, we didn't even speak it on this episode of The Talent Tank.

EV West @evwestdotcom, there's a lot out there about these guys, but at the same time nothing out there about these guys.
They where the first to race an EV in Mexico at the 2013 NORRA 1000, and they recently had a landspeed car go nearly 250mph at Bonneville.  They even have a retrofit to make anything that has Chevrolet SBC or LS motor mounts a conversion candidate for their Tesla crate motor.

That girl in the Samurai!  The amazing talented Amber Turner @daburrs slides into The Talent Tank on this, another, don't miss episode.  She is the driver of the #468 in ULTRA4 Racing's Stock Class, an up and coming personality making waves.  From her years growing up outdoor recreating, to her contagious enthusiasm that motivates all of those around her.   Amber is the kind of person you can't help but measure up to, and know you are going to fall short on all counts.  Her deep driven approach to philanthropy and volunteerism, like racing the EMC, then volunteering to work the 4400 race the next day sets a high bar.  As an active member of Friends of Moonrocks,  and Friends of the Rubicon, you can find her wheeling, challenging herself, and working with diligence to increase the conservation of our environment.  It should be mentioned she's a roll model for young women in the trades, as a welder and fabricator she looked up to Jessi Combs the way the next generation is looking up to her.  Having just started writing the next chapter in her life, she is the newest fabricator at Bomber Fabrication alongside current reigning King of the Hammers Champion Randy Slawson.  This woman is someone you're going to be hearing good things about for years to come, so you better start here, and now.

The Rubicon Trail Foundation is a federally recognized, non-profit organization dedicated to the future health of the Rubicon Trail.
Prior to 2000, the trail was cleaned occasionally but large maintenance projects were rarely done. In 2000, the trail was threatened with possible closure on the Tahoe side. This threat spawned the current Friends of the Rubicon, which mobilized over 200 volunteers to keep the trail open.

Not a rookie, though still very green to ULTRA4 Racing, Michael London @racegsm, driver of the #4825 Gray Squad Motorsports EMC racecar goes full infiltrate on  The Talent Tank this episode.  Growing up in Colorado, Michael was no stranger to wheeling trip after wheeling trip with his father while growing up in the shadow of Pikes Peak.  After years of touring the world while serving this great country, a decent stint in the highly congested Washington DC area.  Michael hit eject, and now hails and races out of Moab, Utah.   Here's the tale of how in his Mid-40's he became addicted to racing offroad, being seduced by King of the Hammers on TV, and lured to Johnson Valley in 2018 where he fell in love with the idea he was cut out to breath the dust, and shed the blood sweat and tears having the time of his life.  All the while  raised funds and awareness for The Warrior Built Foundation.

Out but not really.  Jeremy Dickenson @the_jeremy_dickenson jumps into  The Talent Tank this episode to discuss the before, during, after and what he's up to now, since leaving ULTRA4 Racing.   For 4 years Jeremy was the grease that ensured the wheels went round and round, and the run away train stayed on the track.  The life of a Tennessee gypsy by detour through the Great State of Texas.  From building & racing off-road cars, "co-guessing" from the right seat , running events, building campfires, trying to escape the rat race and run your own speed.   This is one episode flat covers the ambiance and the insight into who has come to the church of Ultra4 and stayed to enjoy our genre of motorsports.

The Red Clay Rally: 500+ miles of overland travel. On road, off road, technical driving. This rally brings back the true meaning of "overland" before instagram hipsters turned it into glorified car camping. This rally is not for the faint of heart, the novice, or the unprepared. You must understand the limits of your truck, your body, and your team to finish. You will receive no assistance, and must be completely self sustaining for the duration of the rally. The rally is who we are, and if you finish it will become who you are, too.
