Ep564: Banks focus on improving UX and CX but what about EX – employee experience?

    Slaven Bilac, CEO, Agent IQ

Banks face a variety of pain points but one that is common to all is hiring. With millennials and GenZs becoming the majority of the workforce, preferences professed by these demographics are becoming a more prominent factor in the challenges posed by the issue of employee satisfaction. Banks seeking to develop digital solutions need to consider the impact technology is having on employee satisfaction just as much as they should watch for customer satisfaction. Robin Amlôt of IBS Intelligence speaks to Slaven Bilac, Chief Executive Officer of digital engagement platform Agent IQ.

Trust To Thrive with Marie-Claire Ross

Welcome to a new episode of THE B. Podcast, and this time our host Ben Esmael will be talking to Marie-Claire Ross. A Trust Leadership Speaker, Facilitator, and Mastermind Mentor is also the author of Trust To Thrive, How leaders create connected and accountable teams.

In this episode, you will hear us talking about how crucial it is to build trust through the organization for the organization to be ready and face various challenges head-on. This episode's choice came from the belief that trust & faith in each other have been neglected or taken for granted when working in the same space. Still, mistrust started to surface when all went online, disrupting business and forcing leaders to scramble to find a solution.

Listening to this interview, you will learn more about:

    • 👉 Great resignation, or what you called it, a time for imagination. Are we asking the right questions?
    • 👉 Trust, what does that means in a workplace, and how important is it for businesses to thrive?
    • 👉 How do we build a culture of trust throughout the organization? What are the key enablers?
    • 👉 How can leaders create accountable teams mainly in a remote working environment?
    • 👉 What are the critical enablers to enhancing leadership visibility?
    • 👉 Tell me about the stages of executive team building.

107: Happiness is a Serious Business | Nic Marks

Nic Marks’s TED talk on the Happy Planet Index has been viewed millions of times. He studied maths at Cambridge, is a trained therapist and statistician and was a member of the Think Tank (New Economics Foundation) working on wellbeing that became hugely successful and influential at Governmental level.
A happy team is a successful team. Happiness is ill defined and therefore can be thought of at three different levels. ‘I feel happy’ which is an emotion, ‘I am happy with…’ which is a cognitive judgement and ‘I am a happy person’ which is a personal trait.
Happiness is not a state to reach and maintain, it is a wave function where we go up and down; in and out of happiness. When we are happy, we should carry on, when not happy we need to make a change. Happiness all the time would actually be dysfunctional.
Happiness is a very social emotion. We are 30% more likely to laugh in the presence of another person. This is all about generosity and giving, our ability to have multiple relationships which require the investment of time.
“Are you happy at work?’ is a simple question relevant and east to answer from the CEO to the newest intern (from shop floor to the top floor)
KPI’s are usually a lagging indicator, so leaders need to consider focusing on leading indicators such as a weekly ‘happiness’ check in for teams. Happy individuals deliver better quality and quantity of work and creativity is heavily linked to positivity.
We can’t separate our home and work life as regards happiness, organisations are full of human beings who need care, empathy and understanding to allow all to feel valued and deliver value.
This episode is packed full of top tips and strategies for any leader to start to make happiness a KPI in their organisations.

E324: Brewery Employee Satisfaction Report 2022

E324: Brewery Employee Satisfaction Report 2022

From brewer to beertender, how satisfied are brewery employees with their jobs?

"I want to be a brewer."  Every homebrewer has had the thought cross their mind.  But, once you land that dream job at a brewery, will you be happy?  Like any job, there are many factors to consider.  Pay, benefits, management, training, etc.  It may be a "cool" job but working in a brewery is still a job.

Andrew Coplon from Craft Beer Professionals and Michael Varda from Craft Beer Advisory Services surveyed employees at 217 breweries across front of house, operations (brewers!), business, and ownership to see what people had to say.  Every job and company is different and the survey presented some interesting results.

Coplon and Varda share the methodology and findings from the report as we discuss some interesting information and some of the factors that may contribute to these findings.  Click the link to request a copy of the full 2022 Employee Satisfaction Report.

About Craft Beer Professionals and Craft Beer Advisory Services

Craft Beer Professionals launched in 2017 simply as a Facebook group bringing together those working in the industry throughout the United States. Though craft beer is a highly collaborative industry, few opportunities existed for peer sharing and learning.  In the three years that followed, CBP grew from a community forum into a rich educational resource serving the entirety of the craft beer community including the myriad of positions within a brewery and the support industries such as ingredient suppliers, equipment manufacturers and professional services. With an engaged online audience, CBP evolved to develop original and critical content to help the industry grow. Through virtual conferences, podcasts, videos and more, CBP has positioned itself as an industry leader while keeping resources 100% accessible to all at no cost.  In 2021, CBP further expanded its offering to in-person opportunities for sharing and learning through CBP Connects, a unique series of intimate workshops. CBP Connects is designed for the industry decision maker and provides an experience focused on both personal and professional growth.

Craft Beer Advisory Services is a full-service market research firm exclusively dedicated to the craft beer industry.  They provide custom insight on beer drinker behavior and tell you why customers come and what makes t

    You're Fired! NO ... I'm Fired!!

    You're Fired! NO ... I'm Fired!!

In today’s episode of the My Job Here Is Done podcast, we discuss the awful situation of having to fire someone. We also float some Pro Tips on how to make terminations expected, if required, and not a surprise event for the employee.

    WHAT TOPICS DO WE COVER?

    * The differences and proper uses of the terms You’re Fired - We’re Letting You Go, and We’re Laying You Off.

    * Ideas on how to make careful but quick hiring decisions that merge naturally into a defined Orientation Period.

    * How to watch for early patterns of concerning behavior and advice on bidding a fast farewell, if necessary

    * How does employee termination affect your team, and what happens when you don’t communicate well.

    * The difference between progressive discipline and performance improvement plans.

    * A story about how local government employees handle the “new guy boss” and literally change jobs, culture, and priorities every election cycle, and what we can learn from that.

    WHAT’S THE TAKE-AWAY?

Firing or letting go of employees is just a horrible event for everyone - nobody wins. We think you can minimize these events, grow a better workforce, and have an incredible culture of employee professional development if we add a bit of extra process and procedure. We’d love your feedback.

    WE USED THESE RESOURCES:

Besides our experiences that directly relate to this topic, we found the following resources very helpful in preparing for this episode:

    From Harvard Business Review: https://hbr.org/2020/03/firing-with-compassion

    From INC Magazine: https://www.inc.com/jeff-haden/how-to-fire-an-employee.html

    WHO ARE DAVE AND KELLI?

An Entrepreneur and Intrapreneur duo with street smarts, ‘preneurial’ chops, and a penchant for storytelling.

Dave and Kelli met as teenagers and have a life-long story of their own. They took separate and very contrasting career paths, both struggling with challenges and celebrating their career successes in very different ways.

Over the years, they noticed similarities in the stories they shared about their work, the people they interacted with, and how business was conducted. Kelli, who “worked for the man like a dog for decades,” and Dave, who “started or ran businesses all of his life,” quickly realized there is substantial value for others in those combined experiences.

The “My Job Here Is Done” Podcast is the result. Ultimately, you’re either building a great business or moving up the career ladder of success, and we absolutely know we can help!

    HOW TO WORK WITH US

If you like what you hear in the podcast, we have more to share with companies that we work with.

With the foundation of business experience from Dave and Kelli as a team, in concert with subject matter experts from the rich roster of smart people in our network, we have put these goals, culture themes, and operational processes you hear on the podcast to the test - and they work.

Embracing Risk and Seeking Out Your Most Difficult Feedback with Tom Karinshak, Chief CXO at Comcast Cable

Embracing Risk and Seeking Out Your Most Difficult Feedback with Tom Karinshak, Chief CXO at Comcast Cable

In his 10+ years at Comcast Cable, Tom Karinshak has helped craft great customer experiences in both the digital and in-person worlds. On this episode, he tell us his secrets to crafting a great CX, and how he thinks about innovation and the future of customer experience.

    3 Takeaways:

    • Employee experience is a key to unlocking and improving customer experience. Your employees are the face of your company, and the key to customers having a great interaction.
    • CX leaders need to embrace customer feedback - and have thick skin. In order to prived the best experience, you need to be willing to hear the worst feedback.
    • It's not enough to play it safe. Customer experience leaders need to be willing to lead out front, even when it's risky, because consumer expectations are always increasing.

    Key Quotes:

    • “We operate in an incredibly dynamic and competitive marketplace. There are a lot of choices that are out there for our customers...and we recognize that and that's why we work so hard.”
    • “Guess what? If the employees have the best tools possible, they can focus on the customer experience when they need to and how they're creating that when they're providing customer service. Because of that, I don't have them having to worry about, some of those other things that decrease work productivity."
    • "As a CX leader, you have to immerse yourself in those experiences. You have to get others to immerse yourselves in those experiences."

    Thank you to our friends

This episode is brought to you by IBM. If you are responsible for Customer Experience, they've created a White Paper just for you. In the CX North Star Report, you can learn more about how to activate your CX vision. Download it here.

Be a manager worth looking up to 101

How we treat people impacts their emotional make up and sets them up for how they view the workplace. And one of the foundational pieces of treating people right is basic respect.  It’s incredibly important to convey respect to your subordinates. While it may seem obvious, unfortunately not enough bosses do that.

Let’s look at things to keep in mind to make sure we are not impacting people negatively.
