Employing Differences, Episode 199: What's my goal?

Employing Differences, Episode 199: What's my goal?

"If my goal is to change somebody else's behavior, I'm very unlikely to be successful. But if my goal is to make the relationship better and to change what I can change about what's going on with me, and how I'm engaging, and how I'm sharing in various ways; the likelihood that their behavior will change actually goes up."

Karen & Paul discuss one of the paradoxes of relational work.

Employing Differences, Episode 198: Does it help to guess?

Employing Differences, Episode 198: Does it help to guess?

"We can never really know what's going on with the other person. We're almost always guessing at them. And the question is whether or not the guesses we're making are helpful or not. Does it feel certain? Does it feel like I have absolved myself of any responsibility of needing to do anything different? Does it seem like this guess is always true, has always been true, will never change, and makes it feel like I have no options? If that's the case, then it's probably not as helpful to you in terms of changing what's going on."

Paul & Karen talk about more and less useful assumptions we can make about other people's circumstances and intentions.

Employing Differences, Episode 197: Should I ask or tell?

Employing Differences, Episode 197: Should I ask or tell?

"The place I want to start is recognizing, 'What's my pattern?' Do I always start with a question? Do I always start by saying, 'What do you think we should do?' Or do I always start with, 'Here's what I think we should do.'? If you're always doing the same thing – and by always, I mean nine times out of ten – then you're probably not choosing the thing that's useful for the situation."

Karen & Paul discuss collaborative problem-solving and whether to start with questions or statements.

Employing Differences, Episode 196: What will repair this?

Employing Differences, Episode 196: What will repair this?

"One of the most important things that you can have as a group is an understanding of how you want to repair things when things go wrong, because things always will. We can talk about how we want to work together. We can talk about what we want things to be like. And we know that those things are aspirational. Something will go wrong at some point along the line."

Paul  & Karen talk about recovery and repair when things between us go wrong.

Employing Differences, Episode 195: Can we adopt this?

Employing Differences, Episode 195: Can we adopt this?

"An actual written document or policy or proposal is a concrete thing that I can say yes or no to. I can say, 'I like this part, I don't like that part.' And it requires a fair amount of editing – of making it crisp and clear – so that we are actually talking about the same thing. Because when you get documents that are super vague and super weird, then we all imagine that there are different things in there than there actually are."

Karen & Paul discuss the necessities and challenges of preparing proposals for a group to consider.

Employing Differences, Episode 185: Is this confidential?

Employing Differences, Episode 185: Is this confidential?

"If you don't hold things in confidence, you break trust. But if you're not transparent, you also break trust. So how do we navigate this where we want to be in trusting communities, trusting environments, trusting workplaces, and some things need to be confidential and some things need to be transparent?"

Karen & Paul discuss how both confidentiality and transparency can improve or hinder the flow of information.

Don't be Afraid to Offend People

To be in the moment can make you especially honest; you have to face what is actually here, right now, instead of what you want to be happening. If you tell someone else what you experience and it crashes into their desired experience, you risk offending them.
This episode explores how we let others control us sometimes, to avoid offending anyone. Listen in for what we can do instead.

You’re A product Of Your Training

You’re A product Of Your Training

On today's episode of Navigate the Day, we dive into the concept of chasing impossible goals and how it can lead to frustration and a waste of time and resources. But can we stop chasing impossible goals? The answer is yes, and it starts with focusing on what is within our control and setting more realistic goals.

As we explore this idea, we learn that chasing happiness may not be the best approach to living a fulfilling life. Instead, we can focus on choosing the right kind of stressors that will help us grow into the person we want to be. We also discover that letting go of unrealistic goals can be a process that takes time and effort, and it may require reflecting on our priorities and practicing acceptance of what is within our control.

Our host shares their own experience with this concept, including a recent job shift and uncertainty about their future. They also discuss their desire to attend a specific school but feel limited by their current financial situation. However, they realize that their desire for rewards without the risks or challenges required is unrealistic, and they are willing to face the challenges that come with achieving their goals.

In conclusion, we are all products of our training, but that does not mean we cannot change our approach and mindset. By focusing on what is within our control and setting more realistic goals, we can stop chasing the impossible and start living a fulfilling life.

Thank you for listening and joining me on my journey of self-discovery!

Internal vs external change agent - Danny de Wild

Internal vs external change agent - Danny de Wild

In this episode Sjoerd chats with Danny de Wild, agile coach and change agent. Danny currently works for Prowareness as a consultant, and has worked in the Dutch Police for many years before, playing a key part in using agile to improve police work.

We explore Danny’s personal experiments and lessons, how being a consultant adds a different dynamic to agile coaching from being an internal employee. Expect topics like ownership, culture and how transparency helps improve and collaborate. We also discuss facilitation, the importance of preparation and power of small talk for safety and participation. Danny also shares his most recent learning about Karpman’s Drama Triangle and how he puts it to practice when coaching individuals and their interactions.

Like every episode, Danny also answers and asks a great question. What it is? Listen and find out! I also put the idea out there to answer all the questions as Scrum Facilitators, so now that it’s out there, we might have to actually do it!

The 1 TOOL that will CHANGE your FINANCIAL REALITY for GOOD!

The 1 TOOL that will CHANGE your FINANCIAL REALITY for GOOD!

It took me 7 years to start to use this tool … and it has COMPLETELY changed my financial reality! My money keeps doubling and tripling and I’m not working any longer or harder. We get it when we get it!

On January 1st 2022 of this year, I made the demand of ME and started to HONOR ME by paying myself FIRST! For every dollar that I receive (from anything!) I put away 10% of it for ME! I don’t spend. I don’t use it. I simply have it.

    Can you have money?

Many of us can make money. Many of us can save money. However … many of us have a challenging time having money.

I am so great at making money and saving it! However, I was not very good at having it. As soon as I saved money, I would spend it, get into debt and then pay it off. It was an endless cycle for years and years. It kept me entertained. I’m pretty good at it.

    No more!

I made the demand of me. This podcast is all about how I made that demand.

IN THIS EPISODE, I TALK ABOUT:

    • Don’t spend our Honor of Me money/investment.
    • Question: “How can you have money?”
    • You can have your Honor of Me money invested in gold, jewels, artwork that don’t own you.
    • The difference between spending and investing.

    Self and Other the Same

    Self and Other the Same

All dharmas are innately amazing beyond description. Perfect vision has no gap. In mountain groves, grasslands, and woods the truth has always been exhibited. Discern and comprehend the broad long tongue [of Buddha's teaching] , which cannot be muted anywhere. The spoken is instantly heard; what is heard is instantly spoken. Senses and objects merge; principle and wisdom are united. When self and other are the same, mind and dharmas are one. When you face what you have excluded and see how it appears, you must quickly gather it together and integrate with it. Make it work within your house, then establish stable sitting.
