Finding Your Path & Trusting The Journey

“Get way off key so that you can find the harmony again” - LC Christine

Sometimes, in life, we have to face the unknown.  We have to take steps that bring us into unfamiliar experiences.  And these moments can be the most powerful and transformative points of our lives.

Sometimes, through exploring the unfamiliar, we reconnect to the familiar within.

Join Alara Sage and LC Christine to discuss the power of courage. Laura shares her journey of leaving a toxic marriage and coming home to herself,

In this episode, you will learn:

    • Doubt and fear are part of the human experience.
    • Courage is the ability to trust one's inner knowing
    • It is important to grieve and let go of what no longer serves us in order to create space for new experiences.

Tapping Into Creativity with Dr. Matthew Asciutto - Part A

Tapping Into Creativity with Dr. Matthew Asciutto - Part A

Nate sits down with Dr. Matthew Asciutto, ER Relief Veterinarian and owner of BindleVet. He is also the host of The Greatest Profession podcast, “an interview-style investigation of the humanity of veterinary medicine.”

Nate and Matt reflect on the turbulence of life, agreeing that it’s not in the highs that we extract the greatest rewards, but from the lows. By coming to peace with that, you also derive joy and contentedness in your day-to-day.

Matt discusses “the circuitous route” that led him to pursue veterinary medicine, and why he was recently inspired to start The Greatest Profession podcast, and to write his first book which he had completed shortly before sitting down with Nate.

He shares how combining his love for veterinary medicine with his passion for music and the performing arts has made his career so much more fulfilling, noting that “doing ER and doing improv is basically the same!”

Finally, Matt tells us how he is able to tap into his creativity consistently by establishing daily habits and a process to achieve his goals on time.

    Key Topics:

    • Life is a series of ups and downs (03:40)
    • Maintaining your creativity and optimistic vision for life during the hard times (05:29)
    • Starting The Greatest Profession and writing his first book (08:58)
    • Combining the sciences with creativity (12:15)
    • Tapping into your creativity (14:12)
    • Focusing on the process (16:39)
    • Rapid-fire questions from Mom (20:18)

#14 Shari Collins’s Story: Deciding To Let Go Of The Baggage Of Life In Order To Live Freely

#14 Shari Collins’s Story: Deciding To Let Go Of The Baggage Of Life In Order To Live Freely

Shari Collins has lived most of her life in Calgary! She was raised as an only child and mainly by her mother. Her parents got divorced when she was very young and a little while after her dad decided to abandon them. This affected Shari greatly and left her feeling confused and heartbroken. It took her a long time to get over this. In her twenties, she started to work and decided to let it go. Her mom had given her some advice and told her that she was carrying around deluxe baggage everywhere she went and she needed to decide to let that go. It wasn't hurting anyone but herself. Now looking back at it she sees it as a blessing and how much it has shaped who she is today.

We also got to talk about her career in oil and gas and how she deals with uncertainty every day. She took some courses but never took anything seriously till her mom put her foot down! Her advice to someone who is struggling with schooling is to enjoy where you are at in life and to know that you will find your path. You just can't stop looking!

Shari shared some of the hardest times in her life but also some of the best! When I asked her what was the best time in her life she said it's now! Shari is in the best relationship she's been in for a very long time and has found the person she's meant to be with! It's so refreshing to hear something so positive! She had been in the dating world for a long time and had many failed relationships. Shari shared some of her war stories from online dating. Shari’s family has also grown and she has met her half-brother for the first time this year!

Debbie and Julie-Roxane Dissect How Reinventing Your Life Really Works

Debbie and Julie-Roxane Dissect How Reinventing Your Life Really Works

Today, Debbie brings her producer Julie-Roxane back on the show. Or rather, the opposite.

Julie-Roxane takes control of the mic to interview Debbie about her experiences of reinventing her life, starting at age 14 and continuing up to the present as she turns 70. Together they explore what life reinvention really means and how it works.

It's not that Debbie is a perfect model for life reinvention. Rather, what emerges in their conversation is a surprising life pattern.

Why would a shy teen embrace an adventure in another country?

What makes someone radically change course in a career?

What does personality type have to do with a propensity for reinvention?

#13 Sheila Hoogenboom’s Story: The Different Stages Of Grieving A Loss & Learning The Importance Of Your Tribe

#13 Sheila Hoogenboom’s Story: The Different Stages Of Grieving A Loss & Learning The Importance Of Your Tribe

Sheila Hoogenboom has quite an extraordinary story. She grew up with a blue-collar family that was very simple. She was raised in BC and had an older brother. As a teen, her brother got into a lot of trouble and so her mom and dad really focussed on him. She did not receive as much guidance because of this. When she was young she really struggled with finding a path and direction. She was one who drifted through High School and planned to go back to school but never did.

She got pregnant at a very young age and decided after unpredictable circumstances to give her daughter up for adoption. She knew she could not provide for that daughter. Later in her life, she met a guy and they moved in together right away. They had a traditional marriage and had two kids, a son, and a daughter. But things turned negative really quickly. Sheila's husband  committed suicide which was life-altering for the whole family. Back then mental health was not talked about the way it is today. People treated her differently as they thought something was wrong with them. Some people left her but some really great friends stayed. In the beginning, she didn't really give herself time to feel as she was focused on the kids. Through all the judgment she received she continued to get support. Sheila struggled with many feelings but being a wife and a mother was the ultimate wait for someone to leave you. Her self-esteem took a hard hit for the next 20 years. She asked herself why she wasn't enough and struggled with why he left her.

She was back in the same position of when she gave her first daughter up for adoption. How was she supposed to raise these children alone. She had amazing tools that she learned from a parenting program. Her grieving process didn't begin until later as her main focus was her kids. Her kids also struggled greatly from this and asked themselves some more questions like what was wrong with them and they had a great fear that she would leave them as well. She continued to have an open dialogue with her kids. She said that her close friends and her tribe were vile to her survival. She emphasized how important it is to have a tribe of women.

Her kids pushed her to start dating again and got into a relationship that wasn't great. She had a great job and was very involved in the community but she gave herself very little credit for all the amazing things she did. After a lot of work and a little manifestation she found her happily ever after and is living the life of her dreams. She met her daughter that she gave up when she was young and all the guilt went away. Shelia now knows her worth and celebrates who she is now!

BTW 52: 8 of Pentacles – Getting In The Flow with Alejandra Alejandra Luisa León, the Lioness Oracle

Today we’re talking about the 8 of Pentacles, all about mastering your craft and makin’ those coins. When the 8 of Pents comes up, you’re being called to know your craft so well, to be so confident in it, that you can innovate. You’re not checking to see what other people are doing or if you’re getting it right. You’re paying attention to the materials and listening to what wants to emerge. Whether that’s in your practice as a witch or a musician, or a podcaster or whatever you’re doing. Your real work and practice begins when you’re able to innovate according to what wants to be done, not what what is imposed by the outside.

Join us as we discuss how to find your flow with artist, astrologer and tarotista, Alejandra Luisa León. She began collaging as a way to process grief, and The Lioness Oracle Tarot was the result. Since then she has hand collaged and published two other decks: The Stars Divine (an Astrology deck) and Vision of the Muse. On top of running her online business, she also gives readings and teaches. She resides in Oakland, California.

How to forge your own path

How to forge your own path

Internalized limitations and belief systems can really hurt young women when it comes to owning their authentic narrative and creating a fulfilling life for themselves.

This week, our host Thamina is joined by Rebekah Bastian, Founder of OwnTrail, a peer-to-peer support system platform for women, to talk about how to embrace your authentic, non-linear life path. Rebekah herself fell into her first job out of college by accident and also refers to founding OwnTrail as "accidental entrepreneurship".

Rebekah's advice to young female professionals: Take inventory on which belief systems serve you and which aren't. Embrace uncertainty while also not shying away from having difficult and vulnerable conversations with yourself and those around you.

She believes that there is no one right path but the more we own our story and choices, the more progress we make. Set-backs and facing obstacles doesn't mean we're doing life wrong, it means we are human.

Don't forget to create your own individual trail and be inspired by other badass women's vulnerability and authenticity.

Essential Risks: Finding Your Next Thing

Essential Risks: Finding Your Next Thing

Welcome to Savory Passage! What is your next thing? Your next risk? When you think about ‘your future-you’ what do you see?

This is Part One of a two-part segment. We’ll introduce you to a few women who found their next thing, identified the risks, and walked boldly into the unknown with passion and excitement.

In Part Two, we bring you another  dreamscape with a charitable twist. The take-away in all of this is to have a clear vision of what your next thing looks like. Check your signals.

Remember that our journey to next, while parallel, may not be on the same time-table. Your next thing may be right around the corner or down the road. I would advise that you take your time to identify where your true interests lie, do your research, listen to your inner voices and pray! One more thing, before you leap - check your footing.
