    Join us as we continue our series on Giving Thanks - Eucharist;

    Re-Member, Re-Connect

The word “Eucharist” is a transliteration of the Greek word eucharistia, which is itself a translation of the Hebrew word berekah. All three words have the meaning of thanksgiving, or praise for the wonderful works of God. For the Eastern Orthodox, Eucharist is "living in thanksgiving".

As we enter this final study on Thanksgiving-Eucharist, Canon Tim Clayton shares some fascinating insights into the last supper, and the power and beauty of self-giving love. Showing us co-suffering/self-giving love, Jesus walked voluntarily into his suffering and released into the world the only thing that you 'get more of' when you 'give more of':
    Love - self-giving love.
The more of it we give, the more of it returns; the more love we give, the more it grows.

When we come to the table together to receive the bread and wine, Jesus is with us and He's giving himself to us represented in the bread and wine saying, "I want to reconnect myself to you"

Join us as Wendy shares a fascinating sermon touching on the history of wine in the scriptures; how wheat and grapes are transformed into bread and wine that nourish, feed, and strengthen us; how God is continually transforming our own lives; and why it was so important for Jesus to share with the people in John's gospel, “anyone who eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise that person at the last day. For my flesh is true food, and my blood is true drink. Anyone who eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me, and I in him. I live because of the living Father who sent me; in the same way, anyone who feeds on me will live because of me."

Join us as Tim shares a bit about the history of bread in the scriptures and why it was so important for Jesus to share with the people in John's gospel, “I tell you the solemn truth.... my Father is giving you the true bread from heaven. For the bread of God is the one who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world.” So they said to him, “Sir, give us this bread all the time! ... I am the bread of life..."

" For the bread of God is the one who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world."

Why bread and wine? These are core foods that actually speak of more than themselves.

When we come with our hands open, we are saying "there's nothing I could pay for this gift"...When we come to receive the bread with our hands open we are also saying, "you gave yourself for me, and I also offer myself to you..."  Augustine put it in a beautiful way: when we receive the body of Christ, we become the body of Christ.

Join us as Cn Tim shares an insightful and intriguing sermon on the story of Saint Francis and the celebration of the Blessing of Animals....
Coming from a time when the church had lost itself, had become rigid and less than vibrant. The story of St. Francis begins at such a time.

Connecting to Creation: learning to live in the place that God put us.
Part of what it means to be human is to connect to the Good Creation that He made for us. We are created by God and woven into the gift of His beautiful creation, and that allows us to live within our limits as a people created by God. Good things grow, it's inherent in the nature of "goodness". We are responsible to care for the Earth and all of creation around us.
Is Jesus in this? Is Christ Himself in this idea?
Where do we find Jesus in the idea of Connecting to Creation?

In this fascinating sermon, Tim looks at the story of Jesus' baptism and his journey into the wilderness fasting among the wild beasts. In the Baptism of Jesus we see the Holy Spirit hovering over the water as a dove, as Jesus is coming out of the water. The Orthodox church has always seen this moment as God re-setting creation. Hovering over the water, even as the Spirit hovered over the water in the creation story of Genesis.

This week Canon Tim Clayton continues with some more insights from 1 Corinthians chapter 2. Connecting with community.
“Things that no eye has seen, or ear heard, or mind imagined, are the things God has prepared for those who love him.”

When we say connecting with community, we mean of course our local church community, but we also mean "the whole community around us in our local towns and cities".

Tim encourages us to not "lose the plot".
Don't lose how special this good news of Jesus is.
How can we learn to be open and honest as a community that can let each other in, to swim in clean water and to breath fresh air. So we can be open and honest and we can let others in.

We have this special gift. That all of life is a gift; that we are blessed, have been blessed, will be blessed; that we are loved, have been loved, will be loved. That each of our lives are known and they are part of God's story.

    Holy Michael and All Angels

    Holy Michael and All Angels

Join us as Canon Tim Clayton shares about Holy Michael and All Angels.
Once a year the church calendar draws our attention to Angels, we never get too far away from the truth that God's creation involves more than we can see and sense.

Tim shares some lovely insights, and a few from theologian and Orthodox priest, Sergei Bulgakov.

God who is love, created human beings for love...
Such is the frontier for human nature.
Guardian Angels? A special agent of care for each one of us.

Tim also explores questions like, "what do we do with things that we know only a little information about?"

The understanding that God has made his angels as His messengers of love, allows for even more confidence in the depth of God's love for us, layers, depth, that we may not be aware of. In God's great love he has also created angels, as His servants and messengers to us about God and his great love.

    Doubts, Questions and Wounded Healers
Reverend Jake Strumm of the Anglican Relief and Development Fund shares with us some profound and inspiring thoughts as we look at the story of Jesus and Thomas.
We pick up the story as we find the followers of Jesus completely devastated and scattered after their friend and brother has died.

Jake shares some powerful stories about the work of God and Christians throughout the world, coming alongside those who have been devastated by natural disasters, poverty, upheaval.
We remember that each of us has been wounded in different ways in our lives. Physically, emotionally, spiritually. We learn from Jesus who has been wounded, and yet He welcomes his friend, Thomas and his doubts up close.

We may doubt God because of so many natural disasters, devastations, death, and atrocities; but then we see people experiencing the disaster, and they're demonstrating great faith in God, and it puts us in check.

When we are tempted to doubt God because of the way the Church is behaving, we also see authentic Christians all over the world demonstrating grace and displays of Christ-like service to one another, and it puts us in check.

Jake reminds us that the Church is Called to be in the rubble with people.
When people are going through hard times, we are called to engage.
When we are in the rubble with people, (the challenges, the heartbreaks, the devastations) then we are truly doing the work of Jesus and fulfilling what we are called to, to love our neighbor, to love one another as He has loved us.

May each of us discover the paradox of our beautiful wounds.
May each of us become wounded healers in our spheres of influence.
May we remember that we are always welcomed by God to bring our "doubting Thomas" hearts to Jesus each and every day.

    Connecting Series 3

Join us as we continue with the third part of this series on connecting. Connecting with God. Connecting with Community. Connecting with Creation.

This week Canon Tim Clayton continues with some more insights from the Acts of the Apostles chapter 17. Connecting with God.

    From Acts 17: 22a, 23b-31:
"From one man he made every nation of the human race to inhabit the entire earth, determining their set times and the fixed limits of the places where they would live, so that they would search for God and perhaps grope around for him and find him, though he is not far from each one of us."
Tim points out that God has done this because he loves each of us and he wants his love to be requited/responded too.

Connecting with God is THE thing of life, it is the deepest, the thing for which we are meant. The love of God is the source of ALL that IS. When we begin to love God back things begin to get sorted. It might happen slowly and some things are difficult, it might be painful, it might be happy depending on our circumstances, but through it all, connecting with God is our home.

This week Canon Tim Clayton shares some insights from the Acts of the Apostles chapter 17.

Though Paul was brilliant and able to communicate clearly and with wisdom to those around him, what was most powerful was that Paul showed his love for those he was serving and ministering too. The biggest point is that Paul loved them rather than judging them or criticizing them. Of course he explains the story of Jesus and the wonders of the resurrection, and it's love that leads Paul to connect with them, and it's his awareness of God's great love for everyone. This is what we are trying to do here at Trinity North Shore.

Mother Wendy Dixon shares some beautiful insights on connection as we look at the Book of Hebrews chapter 10: 22-25, and the lovely insights Wendy has learned about connection.

Our Earth and it's people here and now are still crying out; the refugees, the Joshua trees, the cattle on a thousand hills are crying out, and God in His acute hope for us and the planet through the Spirit cries out, "the Spirit and the Bride say come". The writer of Hebrews says, "draw near to God, spur on one another towards love and good deeds." The core goal of our church says that this is who we want to be, a people gathered who want to be connected to God, community and creation. Let's do it.

Psalms Series Part 12: Psalm 150
Join us as we study the Psalms this season at Trinity North Shore.

Canon Tim Clayton continues our series in the Psalms with a closer look at the last psalm in the Book of Psalms, Psalm 150.
Really a psalm that is summing up the entirety of the book.

God is worthy to be praised simply because He is God.
At the same time, the nature of God's character is so good, so loving, so magnificent, so powerful, it's almost as if when we praise Him, some of that praise falls back into us and in turn lifts us up and transforms us.
It can't help but help to lift our hearts and spirits.
Praise is an ancient and proven kind of therapy.
When we praise God and gaze upon his glory, we are also transformed.

Turn to Him today in the quietness of your hearts, we invite you to take a moment to thank God for being good to you, generous, beautiful, faithful, gracious, and powerful.
May the peace of God be with you today.

The power of music + melody + poetry together = songs.
Singing to the Lord together is good for our mental health, our soul, our appreciation of God and of one another. Open your heart, bring yourself into the story of God.

Why do we sing? As Pascal said, "the heart has reasons for which reason knows not..." Music is one of the few gifts we have to bring love, to bring peace, to bring healing, to speak out against injustice, to bring praise and adoration to those we love. Music crosses those valleys, those deserts, those oceans within us and helps to bring us home within ourselves, connecting with God, and with one another.

Trevor Jones continues our series in the Psalms with a closer look at Psalm 31.

Join us as Trevor walks us through this lovely Lamenting Psalm of David.
A Psalm of David, again asking for help from God, and a reassurance of knowing who God is, and praising Him for that. This lines up with our own private prayers that we can live in the natural flow of emotion from asking for help, to remembering who God is, and praising Him for that, and then moving back to asking for help. Knowing the presence of a God who delights in you, just as you are. Is it too good to be true?

Trevor is reminding us that we as a church are "God's workmanship", to do the good works that He has prepared for us to do. Also a kind reminder that when worries and shame come into our lives, we can remember that God's word reminds us to live in God's love, to run to the light of God's love.

Join us as we study the Psalms this season at Trinity North Shore.

Canon Tim Clayton continues our series in the Psalms with a closer look at Psalm 139.

Finding ourselves doesn't happen just by looking inside, but also through relationships. We also find out who we are as we interact with those around us.

The Scripture teaches us that we are all made in the Imago Dei, the "image of God". In Psalm 139 we find a writer who is reflecting on what it means to be a human being in relationship with the one who gave him life.

How does this relate to each of us, created by God when we were formed in the womb. Sometimes you may have felt terribly alone, yet God was there with you the whole time. Remember your story, wherever you have gone, happy or troubling, and know that God was there with you the whole way.

In this week's Psalm 40, we see that in this song, David's help has come, the challenge has passed. David, having been trapped in a "pit" of his own bad behavior, "troubles beyond number have surrounded me, and my own sins have troubled me so that I cannot look up", and so David called out to God for help, the Lord met him and delivered him, and gave him a new song to sing.

Canon Tim Clayton continues our series in the Psalms with a closer look at Psalm 130.

Psalm 130 could possibly be the most beautiful desperation prayer that's ever been prayed. Whatever is going on with you in this season, whatever heaviness you carry, whatever thoughts might be condemning you, or how many mistakes you may have made, this week's Psalm, begins with the writer in that place, "out of the deep, I have called upon you..."

Mrs Jennifer Keifer continues our series in the Psalms with a closer look at Psalm 22.

Layered underneath the cause of sufferings, a profound alienation is felt.
In the words of the Psalmist, this believer has found themselves in a "pit", an "abyss", "waters overwhelming", a real or feeling of being cutoff from community and their flow of life.Their "enemies'', whether people or dire circumstances, adds to the pain.In this state, we can see how Psalm 22 exactly mirrors the circumstances.

For a thousand years before Jesus, ancient Hebrews turned to this Psalm in their suffering, and when Jesus suffered, he too turned to this song. Today this Psalm remains part of the sacred cannon of scriptures that we can turn to in our own suffering. It models for us what it means to "suffer well".

Join us as Sue leads us through a fascinating connection between Psalm 65 and our weekly Anglican Liturgy. Week after week, God waits for us, to welcome us into His house. To welcome us to the celebration of communion where we remember Jesus.
As the flow of our liturgy leads us to that place, we offer sacrifice and praise, we confess our sins, and we are offered the refreshment of forgiveness. We pray for the nations and we intercede for God's justice. Through our weekly liturgy and service we pray everything that Psalm 65 prays.
