Great Wines for Fall: Grenache! (AKA Garnacha, Great Autumn wines, Tailgating wines, Grenache Rose’, orange sherbet or sherbert?)

As the days start to get shorter and the weather starts to get cooler, it’s time to think about wines that pair well with the fall! Or is it autumn?!? In this episode, we learn about, taste, and review a great wine for fall called Grenache, also known as Garnacha if it comes from Spain. With warm flavors and relatively high alcohol, we think Grenache is a perfect tailgating wine! And, one of the wines we chose for this episode is a Grenache rose’, so we will try to break the myth that rose’ is a summer wine. As a secret bonus, during the section where we taste the wines, we reveal the mystery that is sherbet - or is it sherbert?!? Listen to find out if you have been saying it wrong this whole time! Wines reviewed in this episode: 2020 Viña Borgia Garnacha, 2020 Fortant Coast Select Grenache Rose’, and 2019 Borsao Tres Picos Garnacha

    Matching Food and Wine: Lamb!

    Matching Food and Wine: Lamb!

So: what wine to pair with your roast lamb?

    Our answers might surprise you.

Lamb is a classic in the wine matching pantheon. But it's not as easy as it may first seem. In fact, we'd argue a lot of supposed matches are way off the mark.

Lamb is a very delicate red meat so needs a specific kind of wine to get the best out of the combination. Sometimes (in fact, really quite often) the best style of wine to pair with lamb is.....white.

Failing that, an elegant red - but beware even the so-called classic pairings, because they don't all work, as we explain.

This episode is part of our food-and-wine matching mini-series brought to you in association with Wine Club by Majestic. The wines featured are all available in Majestic:

This short-form Live episode is also available in video format so if you'd like to see us in action, check out our YouTube channel: Susie & Peter On Wine.

The recipe for our 'roast lamb with a twist' is available, together with all links, photos, wines and more details from the show, on our website: Show notes for Wine Blast S3 E27 - Matching Food and Wine: Lamb!

Do send us in your thoughts, we'd love to hear from you! What do you think of our choices? What are YOUR favourite matches with roast lamb?

Spain Uncorked: The Enchanting Wine Regions of Spain with Elisa Errea

Spain Uncorked: The Enchanting Wine Regions of Spain with Elisa Errea

Spain is considered an “old world wine region” — a blend of tradition and innovation where superb quality goes hand in hand with unparalleled value. Working with indigenous grape varieties, winemakers craft robust reds, crisp whites, lively sparklers and world-renowned fortified wines. Spanish wines have a classification system based on the "Denominación de Origen" (also known as a "D.O." or designation of origin) that indicates where the wine was produced. In this episode, we're joined by Elisa Errea as we look at seven enchanting wine regions across Spain.

This is Spain Uncorked, a Special Miniseries from Wine Pod.

Elisa Errea started her career in wine over twenty years ago, working for the Codorníu group (Export and Winemaking) for 10 years. In 2012 she founded The Wine Studio, an internationally awarded Spanish wine school offering WSET qualifications as well as custom training. She's also a strategic consultant for wineries and institutions as well as a lecturer at different master-level programmes and sommelier degrees. She has designed the current wine programme taught by her team at Le Cordon Bleu Madrid. At an institutional level, she’s Rioja Wine Academy academic advisor and also director of ICEX-Wines from Spain official education programme "Unveiling Spanish Wines."

Cannonau: the Red Giant of Sardinia

Cannonau: the Red Giant of Sardinia
Cannonau represents the enology of red wines in Sardinia. Its origins have been debated for a long time and believed to be introduced from Spain, where it is known as Garnacha Tinta. Important archaeologic discoveries in Sardinia allowed the history of Cannonau to be rewritten as well as the history of viticulture of the Mediterranean area, by finding out the famous red grape is present in the island for at least 3200 years.
