    Pallas Athena (Part II)

This is Part II of our feature on the asteroid and Goddess, Pallas Athena.

In this episode, we explore Pallas' shadow side, such as how she relates to other women. We also discuss the astrological community more broadly, and whether there is need for an accessible, standardized grievance board.

As always, we'd love to hear what you think!

Pallas Athena: Asteroid + Archetype (Part I)

Is it Mars, your animus or Pallas Athena? In your moments of independence, shrewdness, competition, or will, you may be channelling the wily, "grey-eyed" daughter of Zeus.

In this episode, we talk about that Goddess of war / wisdom / strategy / justice / art + craft.

We talk about the asteroid as immune system defence. We share stories and grievances. We dig into the literary history, psychology, and dirt. Enjoy!

    Finding a sacred life

    Finding a sacred life

A sacred life. What does it truly mean?

As Ceryn prepares to welcome Author and Theologian Meggan Watterson to the Divine Feminist, she dives into the topic by sharing her own journal into all things spiritual so far this life.

From the cold churches of her childhood to the meditating mean girls she met in new age circles and the complex how to books which scared her off from being the witch she'd dreamed of, Ceryn shares a story that is likely to resonate with many others; about a search for connection that never quite helped her feel accepted.

Until it led her to recognise the one thing she needed to revere and worship above all, and to work with the power that could be found in that.

"Wounded Words 4: Are We a Church?"

"Wounded Words 4: Are We a Church?"
Rev. Pat continues her "Wounded Word" series. Tied for third among the most common words noted was the word "church." Church has four current definitions within Christianity: a building for worship; a congregational or denominational organization/assembly of people; all Christian assemblies and people as a whole; congregational governance. How does this word fit or not fit for us at First U?

"Wounded Words 3: Is Religion a Proper Response to the Divine?"

"Wounded Words 3: Is Religion a Proper Response to the Divine?"
Rev. Pat continues her "Wounded Word" series. The third most common words noted were "religion" and "church." What came to Rev. Pat's mind was the Dance of the Seven Veils featured in Tom Robbins' novel, Skinny Legs and All. With each veil dropped, another truth is revealed. When the fourth veil dropped, a Robbins character reflects that “longing for the Divine is intrinsic in Homo sapiens. . . enlarging our souls and lighting up our brains. . . Religion is nothing but institutionalized mysticism. The catch is, mysticism does not lend itself to institutionalization.”
Does organized religion and/or Unitarian Universalism help to broaden or diminish the mystical impulse?

"The Reign of the Winter Goddess"

"The Reign of the Winter Goddess"
A Yule Celebration with our FirstU children & youth. During the holidays, we commonly hear stories of Baby Jesus and Santa Claus. Yet, many of our holiday customs are rooted in ancient Yuletide lore of Oak Kings, Holly Kings, Winter and Spring Goddesses, the forces of Winter battling with or trying to capture the forces of Spring. The celebration of Yule reminds us that life always holds the promise of transformation and a new beginning.

Karen Clothier - Love, Loss and the Black Madonna

Karen Clothier - Love, Loss and the Black Madonna

Most of us are not aware of the extent to which we are out of our bodies. We live in a culture that’s very heady. We are very cerebral about everything. We live more in the possibility rather than the reality.
    ~Karen Clothier

Talking with wise woman and womb priestess Karen Clothier of WildQueens.com about her road of success through the "go go go" world of  Silicon Valley to newsworthy online retailer to healer and teacher living a simple life in the south of France.

We explore the essence of feminine power and what it means to be called into the body through grief while being guided by the Black Madonna. An especially timely conversation for women in the wake of the #metoo movement. Also, for men who want to understand what's going on with women and what the next phase of our humanity is calling forth.

    EPISODE HIGHLIGHTS

    • Feeling like a failure while living an outwardly successful life
    • What Mary Magdalene and the Black Madonna can teach us about being in our bodies

    Danielle Dulsky: Woman Most Wild

    Danielle Dulsky: Woman Most Wild
Woman Most Wild is a fierce, raw, and unapologetic affirmation of women’s spiritual freedom. This book offers women lush glimpses of and open pathways to Wild Woman Spirituality, the non-religious and fully accessible practice of soulful, nature-born sensuality, magick and ritual, and sisterhood. Reclaiming the name of Witch as both a wild woman as well as a compassionate global healer, this book asks the reader to consider spiritual liberation by way of the “three keys to the broom closet.”

    Warrior Goddess - Heatherash Amara

    Warrior Goddess - Heatherash Amara
It is a time for Women... Warrior energy is our power: focus, dedication, purpose, determination. When we harness our warrior energy we are confident, clear, and bring 100 percent of ourselves to each action. Goddess energy is our creative flow: unconditional love, pleasure, passion, wisdom. When we claim our goddess energy we live in joyful self-acceptance, self-respect, and listen to our innermost knowing.

The Statue of Liberty: Goddess in the New World with Robert R Hieronimus and Laura E Cortner

The Statue of Liberty: Goddess in the New World with Robert R Hieronimus and Laura E Cortner
Women are an underutilized resource. When I heard actress Connie Britton say this in an interview, I was stunned by the twist that she gave gender equality. I had never heard it put quite this way. Giving women full rights isn't just a matter of fairness or of equal opportunity. Not allowing females access to an education and to employment in all fields and at all levels, deprives us of resources. Since women think differently than men and see the world differently, we are depriving the world of new ways of thinking, inventions, cures for disease and solutions to problems that have been plaguing the world. We have created a lot of myths about what women can and can't do. We say them as if they are true, but in fact, they are false beliefs that have prevailed because no one has really challenged them. When we raise girls to believe that they are less capable than men, we cause harm to ourselves. Please join us Thursday to learn what the Statue of Liberty, a female, really symbolizes.

She Who Rides With the Wind: Myth, Music, and Oya

She Who Rides With the Wind: Myth, Music, and Oya

It’s been a somewhat stormy week in the Mojave with lots of dramatic afternoon clouds, rogue winds, high humidity, and a few drops of rain. This monsoon season is a good time to make a bow in the direction of Oya, the Yoruban goddess of wind and storms.

In this program I tell a story about Oya and Shango. I also talk about the dynamics between masculine and feminine energies in music. This show features a couple short examples of the drumming used to honor and call the goddess Oya.
