    Episode 04 - Anthony Crolla

    Episode 04 - Anthony Crolla

I had a fascinating interview with famed Mancunian Crolla (as his friends call him!) who very kindly came up to my health food store in Garstang.

Starting with his formative years and Italian ancestry we talked about life in Manchester and the influence of his father, himself a former boxing professional, who used to take him to the gym to train.

I was interested to find out what creates the drive to get to the very top of a sport and Crolla eloquently explained how so much of his achievements came about through the strength of his will power. He identified how our body is always looking for the easy route out and that is when he would force himself to drive further progress.

He paints a picture of being in the dressing room before a fight and how he would enjoy the moment and try to savour it as he came out and was faced with a crowd of thousands of people.

What makes Anthony’s story more remarkable is how he overcame a serious injury when burglars he chased and caught up with fractured his skull using a piece of concrete.

Yet, using herbs, nature and sheer determination he was able to recover and gain the WBA World Lightweight title in 2015.

We also discussed how he does not like using medication and much prefers nature’s way and this instinctive knowledge has allowed him to have a healthy retirement.

It is not every day one gets to meet someone so utterly focussed and yet so well rounded and kind. I’m sure this will come across as you listen to his amazing story.

    Episode 03 - Danielle Kay

    Episode 03 - Danielle Kay

In this episode Nick talks with Danielle Kay,  a medical herbalist from Barnoldswick, Lancashire

    Courtesy of  http://www.daniellekay.co.uk

Based in Lancashire, Danielle Kay MNIMH. Bsc (Hons) has had a lifelong interest in natural health and wellbeing. Becoming a mother motivated her to train as a herbalist, and she is now a member of The National Institute of Medical Herbalists.

Danielle believes we need to learn to work with nature rather than against it and use our natural resources sustainably. To this end she assists an Eco-club every week for the pupils at a local primary school and has recently completed courses in Permaculture Design and Woodland Management. She is currently doing the “Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong-Learning Sector” course, as she is passionate about educating others in herbal medicine and caring for the earth. In September this year she will begin working on an MSc in Herbal Medicine.

Danielle also enjoys providing herbal first aid at festivals, where she can help people with acute sickness and injuries. She has done some voluntary work for Incredible Edible Todmorden, an award-winning community garden project. Her two children enjoy helping her both with her volunteer work and with growing their own organic produce on their allotment.

A Natural Herb that Everyone Should Know

A Natural Herb that Everyone Should Know

What happens when your stockpile of meds runs out and you can’t get more? Or, what if you want some help with health issues, but you don’t want to become reliant on pharmaceuticals? Natural herbs have been around for thousands of years. And although some people react differently to natural herbs, most are relatively safe. One herb or plant that everyone should know is Chamomile.

Megan Fuhrman Wheeler on Manifesting a Dream and creating an Herbal Community

Megan Fuhrman Wheeler on Manifesting a Dream and creating an Herbal Community

Megan Fuhrman-Wheeler is a phenomenal herbalist and artist who started an apothecary in Spirit Lake, Iowa. We talk about her path with herbs and how she has gained clarity about her path through her healing journey and has visualized and created a thriving business that helps her community.

    Bio:
I am Megan, the owner of MEGAN & CO. Herbal Apothecary and Clinic.

My path to herbalism was paved out of personal experience. As a child, I was in diagnosed with epilepsy at age of 10. Most of my childhood was spent juggling different pharmaceuticals with the hopes of calming my seizures. By the time I had reach my mid twenties, I was looking for another path and that road was herbalism.

I attended the Colorado School of Clinical Herbalism from 2014-2016. Through herbalism and nutrition I was able to heal myself, as I had never done before. My personal experiences strengthened me and I soon became determined to share these methods with others.

I opened MEGAN & CO. in June of 2017 as a Certified Clinical Herbalist, a Certified Clinical Nutritionist, and Flower Essence Practitioner. It is my hope that the Apothecary is able to spread herbal knowledge to rural America in a safe, constructive, and accessible manner.

Thank you for loving herbs! I sure do.

    1. What is your favorite place in nature?
The Bulgarian forest because that’s where I grew up, but any forest is what I gravitate to.
    2. What is the animal, mineral or plant that resonates with you the most?
Cows. They’re beautiful animals, very sattvic and also cows teach me patience.
    3. What is one thing we can do right now to connect with the natural world and bring more harmony into our lives?
Breathe deeply and calm your mind and meditate because this helps us center ourselves and be fully present in the world.
    4. What’s the greatest lesson nature has taught you?
Purity. Nature is perfect and nature is pure in its origin and even when it looks imperfect, it’s actually perfect the way it is. So that is what nature inspires me to be.
    5. Nature brings me…
      Peace.
