1995 cult classic Vampire in Brooklyn in the wake of her mother's death in a mental institution, detective Rita Veder (Angela Bassett) is assigned to a baffling serial murder case. After examining the crime scene -- a corpse-filled ship found adrift at sea -- Rita meets Maximilian (Eddie Murphy), a smooth-talking Caribbean playboy determined to romance her. Episode 8: Vampire in Brooklyn

A bad Caribbean accent, a bad temper and a bad hankering for human blood are at the heart of 1995's Vampire in Brooklyn. Bryce and Irving look back at the cult classic that paired the horror master himself Wes Craven with the man who dominated comedy for a decade and a half Eddie Murphy. Angela Bassett, Allen Payne, John Witherspoon and Kadeem Hardison round out the rest of the main cast and if you haven't seen this mid-90s gem, please check it out and let us know what you think!

Religion and the American Revolution with Katherine Carté

Religion and the American Revolution with Katherine Carté

The American Revolution disrupted the trans-Atlantic ties between American and British Protestants.  Imperial Protestantism had helped helped to drive support for the British Empire, and the Empire seemed to Protestants on both sides of the Atlantic to be a way to propagate the faith.  But the Revolution  forced a recalibration of the role of religion in the lives of 18th-century citizens across the Atlantic World.  Professor Katherine Carté discusses all this with us, in a conversation about her award-winning book, Religion and the American Revolution: An Imperial History.

    Friday

    Friday

Rest in Peace and Power to the late, great John Witherspoon, among the many MVPs in this film, for his role as Willie Jones. Witherspoon was very well respected, beloved, and always brought hard work, dedication, and humble nature to every project he was involved in and he will be missed.

With that said, the Plotaholics in this week's episode will discuss among the greatest comedies in film history, 1995's Friday. Starring Ice Cube, Chris Tucker, John Witherspoon, Tiny Lister, Bernie Mac, and an uncredited cameo appearance by the late Michael Clarke Duncan!

This film shows Craig Jones (Ice Cube) living life in his South Central Los Angeles neighborhood on Friday. Craig was fired from his job the day before (on his day off), and his best friend Smokey (Tucker) is determined to help him get over his situation the only way he knows how; by getting high!

The two friends experience the idiosyncratic routines of individuals in their neighborhood while also attempting to figure out how to get themselves out of trouble with Big Worm, the local drug dealer.

Twenty-five years ago, this film hit theatres and it is as relevant now as it was then and has withstood the hands of time. So...what rating will the Plotaholics give this film?

Well, you'll just have to listen to find out!
